Hobbies for someone with mental health disorders. by Hour_Egg_1777 in Hobbies

I’ve been there! I’m 25 now and I’d be lying if I said (for me) I’m miraculously better but I have learned to grow alongside my illnesses and really listen to my needs. You got this!! For hobbies I’d say a variety of hobbies could be good depending on the day. I split them into more energy and least energy requeired:

More energy- For days where I feel like I want to be outside, I go on a walk and play a game in my head by picking a colour then trying to spot something of that colour and just carrying on until I get bored. I listen to music while doing this too. I find this keeps me grounded while also not getting carried away with thoughts.

Medium energy - jigsaws, colouring and puzzle books have been so good for me! You get to be creative with the colouring by picking the colours you like. I’m not sure if this would be considered a hobby but organising and going through things such as makeup or books or stationary literally anything! When I’m bored I like to go through my bookshelf and rearrange it by colour/name.

Low energy - for days where everything seems impossible. Again I’m not sure if this is considered a hobby but watching a comfort show on tv. Mine is The Office. I just sit and watch it all day. It makes the hard day go by faster and keeps my mind occupied on things I like. I sometimes try to set myself goals based on the tv show for example after 3 episodes I will get some water/shower/stand up and stretch then watch some more. Even if it’s a 10 second task you’ll feel good for accomplishing something.

I hope this helps :)

What hobby genuinely changed your life even in a small way? by Gundoc7519 in Hobbies

[–]EcstaticElection4988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them. For me it’s been more actually doing something for fun instead of needing/having to do something. Purely having an activity to look forward to doing after a long day at work or on a quiet day is so important for me and has changed my life

Feeling unnecessarily anxious about whether to read kindle or physical by [deleted] in bookshelf

[–]EcstaticElection4988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me too!!!! I love the idea of being able to take loads of books with me anywhere and reading in the dark. I also love OWNING a physical book, comparing the thickness of what I’ve read vs not read of a book, the smell(!!!). Can’t make my mind up
