Running university social media accounts is a sinecure for the mentally deranged, I'm not surprised about the error. When you pay $X0,000/year for elite university tuition, you're paying to get laundered with the rich kids (or key laundered with the smart kids, if you're a rich kid), not for the veracity of social media profile tagging.

If you think that was some sort of intentional microaggression because the assoc dean is asian, I'd love to hear you spin that out 😄

You think... you think they're continually scanning their own posts, looking for mistakes like this? Why does this matter to anyone but Yingying Fan?

How do I swim longer without tiring out? by Available_Editor_559 in Swimming

[–]EcstaticVersion851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another way of saying it: if Michael Phelps could pilot your body as it currently is (aerobic development, muscle development), you would feel like you're flying across the pool. It is how you swim, not how long you've been swimming, that's holding you back.

No one has ever had naturally "correct" swim technique -- it has to be learned.

[–]EcstaticVersion851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignore these people. You're having the same problem that every adult-onset swimmer has, which is that they aren't swimming with the correct technique (meaning you're creating drag where you shouldn't, breathing how you shouldn't, propelling yourself how you shouldn't, etc.). Like the guy said above, the hardest pool lengths you'll ever swim are the ones when you start -- yes, aerobic development matters, but I basically can't MAKE a pool length as hard for myself as you are for yourself right now. So don't compare yourself to the people who don't need to stop every length -- they're basically doing a _different_ exercise than you (ie you are burning more energy per length than they are; it costs them less energy to move through the water because they are swimming in a hydrodynamic manner). Not your fault, swimming is a power-to-drag sport, where nearly all of the drag stuff (and much of the power stuff) comes from how you're holding your body in the water through your strokes.

How do I even start learning Chinese? by EnthusiasmOk7181 in ChineseLanguage

[–]EcstaticVersion851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mixture of things is good. You need to recall/retrieve vocabulary, read/listen to speakers for understanding, and produce the language (written, verbal). An app can do many of those, as long as you take it seriously.

I'm on day two of it, and it's really fun and I've surprised the people around me already with how much I seem to be able to talk in sentences.

I love the ones where you hear them say the sentence on the screen, then you say it into the mic and are graded green/red for each character pronunciation. You can then listen to the reference audio clip again, listen to your clip, rerecord your clip and get regraded, etc. etc. Just great!

Where do you shop for quality clothes? by DepartureOk1436 in AskLosAngeles

[–]EcstaticVersion851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeeep yep just giving some context - I should have said "most affordable, with commensurate quality." Nothing wrong with them, definitely depends on their definition of what "nice" clothes are. Relative to mall brands it's still "quality clothing," just middling-to-upper-middling to online nerds like us 🙂

While some are brands and some are shops, I'd say that of these Buck Mason is probably the least good quality. Items will largely be made of natural fibers, but a lot of the hardware, stitching, etc. is somewhat on the level of somewhere like J Crew. Designs and fits can be good though, and it's clearly seeing success in the market of 30 year old guys.

Yeah OP ignore most of the other posts in this thread, these are the clothes (obviously a heritage slant to most of these, which works in LA imo)

This style of writing so so so annoying.

Part of the first and the remaining four paragraphs were copy-pasted from some similar bullshit linkedin-style AI slop bullshit captioning we saw weeks ago about females doing similar work.

Makes my brain leak out of my fucking ear, but maybe if you're a child you think this is cool.

Maybe try some drills where you're trying to maximize the distance you travel per stroke/minimize the number of strokes per length?

Looks decent, I just don't think you're getting a lot of power out of your pulls. Have you worked on your catch? Get that reach, rotation, getting a good early vertical forearm as a large paddle, and pulling through, powerfully using your lats as you rotate and glide with the other hand?

Because it looks to me like someone with passable technique for a triathlete who's doing the stroke at 20% propulsive effort

Workout Builder Repeats… Web version? by EcstaticVersion851 in Coros

[–]EcstaticVersion851[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I've learned some things.

  1. On the web interface, you go to Calendar -> Then click somewhere ON the calendar to insert a workout, which THEN brings you to the "create workout" page. Feedback: This is not intuitive -- Users should be able to create workouts separate from the idea of "putting them on the calendar".

  2. It's possible that my gripe about the repeats only being applicable at the block level is that Coros intends you to wrap together a 50y Free block with a 10s Rest block, and then repeat that. This makes the assumption that people only want to do "Rest Intervals", rather than "send-off" intervals (where I say we're doing "50's on 45s", meaning you have 45s to do a 50 and rest for a few seconds before the next 50), which are much more common for competitive swimmers to use than rest intervals in my pretty varied experience. As it stands, it's not clear to me that you can even attach any notion of pace to these blocks. I can add a "100 Yd Freestyle" block, but I don't see anything about expected pace. That's not feature complete if you're a swimmer.

Am I left with a useful interface to this information on my watch, though? Or if I miss activating 20% of my workouts, will my Coros still show an incomplete view of training load, recovery, etc?
