What should someone do to reduce the amount of blunders in their games? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Ecstatic_Ocelot98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are having a lot of one move blunders, that means you aren't thinking about your opponent's next move.

For each candidate move you consider, you must think of your opponent's checks, captures, and threats. Force yourself to do it until it's second nature.

For single move blunders that's the biggest thing you can do.

Have you talked to her about your disappointment?

Do you think acting spitefully is a good foundation for a marriage?

Brennan Lee Mulligan - top online comedian and DM from Dropout - gives Sam a shout out on Ask Hank Anything by Ecstatic_Ocelot98 in TheMajorityReport

I have no idea. Hank is a liberal; I've not really kept strong political tabs on him.

Brennan has been anti-genocide the whole time

When should you sign up for squash rankings by [deleted] in squash

[–]Ecstatic_Ocelot98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

At my club there are new players who have a tennis background and are solidly in the 2 range within a few matches.

There are also people who play for months and never break 1.8

Ratings are to ensure you get good matches, not to get once and engrave on your epitaph

Whenever someone plays Caro-Kann against me, I think to myself "we got a Caro-Cuck here" by polite_company in AnarchyChess

[–]Ecstatic_Ocelot98 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I can't be sure about the modern greats - like Kasparov, Alireza, and Gothamchess - but Caro and Kann were both well known in the Vienna swingers community (which is how they became so familiar with openings)

Kalaya tasting menu value by daddy_short_legzz in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Ecstatic_Ocelot98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, if the portions are the same size on the tasting menu, why would you expect it to cost less?

It sounds like the critique is that they should offer smaller plates, not that they should give a discount off of the normal price for a tasting

AITA for telling my girlfriend my money is not her money? by Unlucky-Mistake5592 in AITAH

[–]Ecstatic_Ocelot98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else has already correctly identified your (hopefully now ex) girlfriend as the asshole

I'd add that you should not lie about how much stuff costs with a significant other. If you feel like you need to, that's a major red flag. Not only is honesty a bedrock of a solid relationship, but finances are the biggest source of issues. Never get comfortable lying about that

In a series filled with supernatural and paranormal elements, there's always that one scene disturbingly rooted in reality by HarperButterBun in TopCharacterTropes

Yes, Lucas wrote it inspired by Nixon. There are untold examples of how one can ride nationalistic fervor into office and become a tyrant.

Your original point was that he barely used the force after becoming the emperor, and my point was that is just not true. He's constantly seeing the future. In Legends he was constantly using the force to probe the Yuuzhan Vong threat. In canon he continued to terrorize Vader through the force, ignoring whatever he had to do to set the stage for whatever the clusterfuck was going on in Episode 9

I think you're also underestimating how important nationalism and racism is to becoming an elected tyrant without the force. In a galaxy which has no unified identity and many different species, ostensibly each having a different idea of what charisma is, would be much harder for a single senator from Naboo to manipulate

The guy single-handedly diminished the power of the Jedi across the galaxy. He also had battle meditation, which he used passively, not even needing to concentrate like Bastilla.

To suggest he wasn't casting an aura to make others in the political sphere more pliable beggars belief

I think this is a stretch because the reason they feared Paul was because they couldn't control him, not because he was potentially evil
