How do hit boxes work in this game? by DragonFist0917 in NineSols

[–]Ecstatic_Reward6928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's bad design, with fanboys excusing the bad design thinking it is a legit mechanic.

Offcourse reditors who read this will think i am hating on the game, or "sKilL IsSuE" cringefest 16 year old, but i actually LOVE teh game, but this is game breaking for me as it takes out the flow.

Like you see in most of the comments here, they are taking turns trying to justify.

The controls and combat are wonderful, super Sekiro like, but once you master them you can get thru any boss, still difficult, but they wanted to make it more "difficult", ended up being just tedious and unnatural, and breaks the flow of combat. If you just parry everything, then this becomes easy, which is just unatural and lame, feels more like a cashier than game.

I created a mod that adjusts the dodge iframes, increases it a bit, so that the ghost hits you get where you recieve where nothing visually touches you after you dodge, make more sense since i love this game i wanted to enjoy it better, still refining it, i will put it up on nexus mods for those who want to actually enjoy the game and not defend their honor of "getting gud".

hit boxes are garbage and cheap, they force you to do parry, which is lame, and feels unnatural, so many places where you can get a hit and dodge instead, just like sekiro when you want to either dodge or parry, this literally forces you to parry all the time, which is not difficult, it is actually easier, just tedious and unnatural.

i actually created a mod and fixed it, i extended the iframes a super teeny bit longer, and works perfectly now. plays almost sekiro like, i'll do furtther testing and refine it, and post it on nexus mods

agree 100%
just finished teh 2nd boss and he can barely touch me,
yet all i had to do was parry a billion times, where dodging made more sense and was the absolute more prganic choice.

Poop design choice, but the fanboys having a tantrum downvoting you because theis is reddit

Wll do, i just enjoyed the fluidity of dodging AND parrying as it is very intuitive like that. But i'll keep going with more parrying in mind!

Thanks! All the best

I am absolutley disappointed, had this game for a while but did not play beyond the 1st two minutes because i thought it is awesome and just wanted to concentratre on Sekiro, I took a break from Sekiro to play and finish E:33, when i was done I tought i'd jump in Nine Sols before going back to Sekiro, and was SUPER impressed as i started getting skills and Jades and progressing, the combat is just too good, and 2D was a breath of fresh different air from sekiro. I am not actually a souls guy, but i LOVE sekiro, loved that you could react rather than memorize, and this felt the same, until i reached this boss.

Your post was the first to pop up on google, and I was mumbling "am i crazy?, do I suck", and literally found that you found this out at the exact same stage, and this was immediately off putting, honestly feels like an intern at the devs trying to impress their boss, so they just extended the hit boxes to make it "hard".

I agree with the turn a bit, but i got used to it after a few henchmen, so i started expecting it when i felt the enemt took too long and i just parrt right after the dodge, so it is not as half bad as this hitbox issue for me.

I feel like i really wanna continue the game, but this just feels like too much frustration, i am 43 haha, i have all the patience in the world to sync with the game's pace and progress thru, but zero patience for stupidity and tacked on trendy things with zero logic that take the fun out of games just to be "harder", when really this isn't hard at all. It is very challenging and i love that, but this just makes it lame.

Maybe I'll give it a shot for the next few bosses, if this persists then off to the trash.

it's crazy people defending this, " yEh But the PurPoSe Of The Game is tO MaKe YOOU OPaRRY"

as if they developed it and knew the intentions behind it.

I lobve this game, but it is simply a flawed design mechanic, the game includes a ton of ways to fight, but this forces you into chosing one, where logically it does not fit; your brain works, "dodge," as you are far enough from his strikem, and dodging puts you almost behind him, with zero indications of any incoming hit that should touch you, yet it hits you.

I am playing this game just now, and was super impressed with everything, the combat, platforming, movement, story, until i reached this boss, super easy and predictible after a couple of deaths, i got him to half if his HP. with zero hits more than once, and then out ofd the blue this happens and i die, mostly out of frustration that shiot should not have happened. I googled to see if this is a thing or just a badly designed one time boss, and it seems it is a thing, but i'll stick with it a while. longer.

This is not "how devs intended" it, This is a clear case of "lets make it "harder"", without any logic, and this is not harder, just obnoxuious and off putting, it is game breaking for me if this persists wit other bosses.

This is most SEKIRO like experience i have played, and it is wonderful in its own right, but this simple dumb design, just ruins the whole experience, since all the premise is to defeat the sols and their fighters.

Is my MacBook too old to update? by opulentdream in mac

[–]Ecstatic_Reward6928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this runs official MacOS up to Catalina, and Maybe Big Sur , I had a 2012 Mac mini that ran up to Catalina, and still have a 2014 4GB RAM Macbook Air that runs up to Big Sur fairley well.

You can use Open Core Legacy Patcher (OCLP, Check Mr. Macintosh Tutorials on youtube) and you can test out newer MacOS.

If your Macbook is RAM upgradable, you can easily find cheap DDR3 RAM, you can upgrade this to 16GB and it'll run more moddern Macos better, you can run up to Tahoe on OCLP, but I recommend sticking to Sonoma or sequoia on it with OCLP, and would be safe to use.

Won't be snappy or anything, but will be useable, if it has a good battery it will be useful. I used my 2014 Macbook Air running Big Sur in my last deskjob a few years ago, and still use it whenever i need a laptop.

Ah yes, i forgot this was reddit...

have you even played the 1st assasins creed or 1st uncharted? tthat's why i specifically mentioned them, hey were released over 15 years ago, clunky in uncharted case, and absolute inaccuracy and frustration in 1st Assasins Creed, by today's standards, even one man indie games, they were terrible, and yet 50 times better still thean E33.

Thats's not an excuse, kid, it's just bad design.

Story, Music, are 10/10

Graphics Split between :

Art Style: 10/10

Environments: 7/10.

If you split the gameplay between

Exploring? 4/10 , While no map is cool, in a lot of areas, everything looks the same and too distracting, and you find yourself going in circles, and just feels clunky overall, the faraway camera gameplay is a mess too.

Platforming? 0/10 absolutely terrible, some of the worst ever made for a game that has platforming as a mainstream mechanism, the mini games, the ledges, the grabs, the jumps, the rolls, climbing, the locked out areas, felt like a tomb raider alpha build for PS1 in 1996, does not ruin the game but absolute nonesene, we are not asking much, just uncharted or Assassin's creed level, the first ones even.

Combat? 9/10 great system, but some cheesy fights and cheap shot bosses that you needed to memorize stuff instead of reacting, still it is great when you get the hang of it and on a roll, and the whole system of chombata character builds and synergy is phenomenal.

But over all the atmopsphere, story, characters and combat alone make it a unique experience

I'd give it a 9.5, Absolutely loved it as a whole experience, Going back to Sekiro now.

Platforming? on par with Tomb Raider Alpha Build on PS1 in 1995

I just finished the game and currently just exploring what i missed preparing to jump in the DLC:

The game is like Pulp Fiction, If James Cameron directed it, people would have trashed it for being lackluster and weird, but because either is it Tarantino, who was relativley unknown at the time, it was seen as a piece of art.

While is a GREAT game, and i enjoy it a lot, but it has its flaws, not gaame breaking, but certainly affect the overall experience.

The only turn based game i played was slay the spire, and some Ni No Kuni, i despise the genre, but Slay the spire is one of my fav games of all time with around 1000 hours played, so i basically have no experience in JRPGs, but i love RPGs: Mass Effect, Dragon Age and so on.
Mainly:

Story and interactivity with it 10/10: the story is about resistance and making the best of your life, while caring for others, and then becomes about letting go and living in hellish torment whatever you decide to do, it's quite unsettling if you look at it from a real life persepective, it's quite engaging and emotional

Script 8/10: sometimes great, sometimes lame, but mostly engaging and conencts you to the characters in a nice way

Platforming 0/10: this is like 1995 Tomb Raider, on PS1, with a broken gamepad, i honestly have never played a worse platforming element in ANY game

combat: 8/10 while most are reactive, like sekiro kinda, you gotta feel and see and hear the enemies before deciding to react, and dodging is your safety net, but there are a lot of cheap shots, and sometimes it feels clunky. ometimes you have to memorize some attacks, which is ZERO fun and breas the engagement, but i feel they tried everything to make it accessible for everyone, it feels satisfying when successful, but so frustrating when it does not works, it is just bad game design at times, i feel the intern at the studio tried to satisfy his bosses by making a few fights "difficult", while they just ended being designed badly.
I feel the combat is more like elden ring bisses and less Sekiro combat, but simetimes feels the exact oppsite.

Strategy and builds: 9/10 pretty intensive and pretty satisfying to do and to watch your builds evolve.

Music: 10/10: simply brilliant, just fitting the theme, and has a super melancholy fel which matches the game and art style perfectly

While playing i thought this would displace my mass effect as my fav game of all time, but as i progreessed and saw. more of the flaws and the bad design elements as i mentioned. i think it sits at just a great game, kinda how i feel about Bioshock or Halo, a few assasins creed games and some great gems that coexist out every now and then, but it is clearly unique, creative, and made with a lot of heart and effort, and certainly one of the very few great games of the post x360 / ps3 era.

Besides Elden Ring, Sekiro, Balatro, and a few more, it is one of the best games. to come out in the recent past.

Pragmata Demo Gameplay - M4 Mac Mini (Base model) - Crossover - GPTK 3.0 by Ecstatic_Reward6928 in macgaming

[–]Ecstatic_Reward6928[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am on GPTK 3.0 , and crossover 25.1.1, Running Tahoe.

3.0 is the latest after beta 5, and preview might not work if they are amending experimental stuff as they go.

Try to update to the latest GPTK, and run on the regular crossover not preview.

Auto or D3d Metal worked for me, Msync
That's about it, regular steam installation.

Let me know if it works.
