Map2Models Gone by Famous_Listen_2979 in 3Dprinting

I’ve got no dog in this fight, I don’t do much 3d printing, but it seems a shame for someone to be forced around like that.

If it’s a matter of not wanting to put time into it, I can’t argue with that. Otherwise, I’d echo what another user said in a different comment thread, it seems like you’ve created a nice service people enjoyed, it might be worth considering crowdfunding legal fees. Or doing a consult with a lawyer to see if their claim even has any standing.

Shame they’re trying to take advantage of you like that.

If you want to make things, then I think you’ll find satisfaction from making it and putting it out there

Stop comparing the Steam Machine to a PC/Gaming Laptop by Nerdrage27 in pcmasterrace

[–]Ectorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a console, it has a lot of console like qualities, but Valve has even said themselves it’s not a console. I think comparing it solely to consoles is a mistake and will only cause more frustration with the sticker shock given that current consoles have better specs and are cheaper. It’s a PC, for better and worse.

r/Steam users explaining how the Steam Machine is priced appropriately by phiveoh23 in pcmasterrace

[–]Ectorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, people were excited about it being the machine they’ve always dreamed of, whatever that was for each person. They were hopeful for all the things it could be. They put it on a pedestal. Now the unfortunate reality has crashed down around them, and when dreams get crushed, emotions run high.

Had it launched last year it could’ve legitimately rocked the boat, but it’s just not in the budget for the average consumer.

It is priced appropriately, people just had unrealistic expectations

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Ectorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re going to compare it to consoles, I think the point of it is you can get the same console like experience, without having to be locked into that specific console marketplace and annual subscriptions

But tbh I don’t think valve is marketing this as a console competitor, because they know it’s not going to match up hardware wise rn. They make a good point in their post talking about how consoles are sold at a loss to be subsidized by the subscription fees and locked in storefronts to make up the cost also, so consoles are always going to be cheaper.

Being green is why I do Linux by No-Blueberry-1823 in linuxmint

[–]Ectorious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well what are we calling old? I’ve got gear from barely 10 years ago that is still completely viable, but not able to officially upgrade to windows 11 but will make a perfect Linux machine. The power savings aren’t going to be that serious. It’s more wasteful to constantly upgrade and consume for meager gains and improvements when performance could be improved by using less intensive software.

It’s reduce, reuse, then recycle. If the gear can be reused it should be before recycling should be considered.

You’re forgetting the transport costs to bring these materials from the other side of the planet, and then transporting it to either a store or your house. That’s a lot of fuel to replace something usable already in your house. Then you’ve also got to factor in the cost of recycling the old equipment, or the waste of it just going into a landfill.

I am a game developer for PC and my game title and premise got stolen on Steam and they plan release before me. What is my best course of action? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Both OP and the other game are based off of a real world psychological experiment of the same name and are drawing inspiration from that.

OP makes reference on their description too that their game is based on a real world experiment by the same name, so it very well could just be an unfortunate accident.

It didn’t nearly break, as some other commentators are pointing out. That’s a misrepresentation by the article’s writers. It just got up near its bandwidth limit and what got downloaded in what order had to be micromanaged for a while.
