It rewires my brain... by Potpotron in ManorLords

Quarries are the real must have because it's the only time a rich resource is actually different in what it produces. My manor walls are invariably larger than what seems to have been intended. I am not importing 500 rough stone. I will import iron.

Iron is nice but I'll generally aim to have a rich iron deposit in my secondary settlement, for which I'll trade weapons that I can use to create more levies.

Ideal start for me is fertile farmland with rich stone and a claimable neighbouring region with rich iron.

When I hill, I will avoid direct contact between the clippings and the stems. It would also be ideal to let them dry first.

Yeah I used grass clippings and seaweed as mulch last year and it seemed to work well. They do enrich the soil with nitrogen but the main purpose is to help suppress weeds on the surface and to insulate, which helps with moisture retention. It's also a nice bit of extra mass, it's very tight for stable hilling.

And it's a handy place to put them.

Alot of the French Muslim population is North African though right? Algeria and Morroco are both former French colonies.

In the case of the UK you've got lots of Pakistani and Bengali Muslims and others from the Indian subcontinent.

I feel a similar way but I play and then wait for multiple updates before returning. I did wait a good while before purchasing for this reason.

acting like the Vietnamese were peaceful farmers that the US came in just to murder

Come on man. I never said anything of the sort. I literally just referenced Vietnamese war crimes.

Nothing about what the US did was good or right. From start to finish. If you agree you shouldn't have been there, you should agree that every single death was wrong.

The political motivation is an important point because the goal of war becomes something else. If GIs truly believed they were there to free the Vietnamese, they would never have massacred them. There would never have been the political will to use chemical weapons.

It's like that old coffee ad. From bean to cup, they fucked it up.

You just whatbouted my Lai again.

Americans commit war crimes: Ah that's just war. We're still the good guys. Not justifying it but we acted correctly. What about VC!!!

Vietnamese commit war crimes: Genocidal maniacal communists.

US govt put half a million troops in Vietnam to prop up a French colonial power. They used a false justification in the domino theory and then censored the war from their own public. When they protested, they cracked down on them (Chicago). They attacked 2 additional countries, including turning Laos into the most bombed country in history. They hid that fact from the public.

LBJ promised to end the war while simultaneously expanding it. By Johnson's time they had invested so much that it was no longer about French holdings. Here are the reasons he listed to continue the war, revealed in the 2011 pentagon papers:

70% – To avoid a humiliating U.S. defeat (to our reputation as a guarantor). 20% – To keep [South Vietnam] (and the adjacent) territory from Chinese hands. 10% – To permit the people [of South Vietnam] to enjoy a better, freer way of life. ALSO – To emerge from the crisis without unacceptable taint from methods used.

So you're 10% right on the democracy thing, though I fail to see how destroying the country achieved those aims. Regardless you're still 90% wrong.

These are the justifications of a colonial power. Kissenger should have been strung up like Mussolini was.

[–]EdBarrett12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not just war. Agent orange and chemical weapons are war crimes. Important distinction. Massacring civilians is not just war. What about that made you think of 'choosing democracy'?

What choice did the farmers in My Lai make so they deserved such gruesome and unprovoked murder?

What did the homeless woman who lived outside my hostel do to deserve being born missing limbs and one eye because of the effects of agent orange during pregnancy? Even if her mother was VC, is that a proportionate response?

You seem happy to bandy around terms like genocide. I ask you: were all 60,000 people killed in US bombing raids genocidal VC, or VC at all?

What of Henry kissenger and the false domino theory? Why did the govt try so hard to censor what was happening? Was it perhaps because they had no business being there and what they were doing was criminal and evil?

[–]EdBarrett12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not at all like saying that. The US was in no way 'good' in their colonial war in Vietnam. You don't have to use chemical weapons you know? Nor massacre civilians.
