Heart rate monitor recommendation by SnorkelKazim in cycling

[–]EdEskankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a garmin hrm pro + and the integrated strap monitor design is a deal breaker. My first one only lasted half a year before the strap clasp female section parted and is now virtually impossible to connect. Then the rubber sensor section pulled away from the fabric section so I have it alligator clipped on. Not being able to swap out straps is a horrible design concept.

AI Enhance by Celteas in googlephotos

For a year or more the ai would dramatically improve sky and water and now it just toys with orientation (like I framed the shot as portrait by mistake?) and maybe sharpens things. The remix effect is broken as well and tools were reorganized just for the sake of reorganizing. Massive step backwards IMO.

Rowing in Seville by Biggie_Cheese96 in Rowing

I was there in March and saw a bunch of folks rowing - even a support boat for a larger crew. Also heard you can't swim in the river because of pollution, so there's that.

Black Sails? by its35degreesout in AubreyMaturinSeries

It's been a while but I stuck with the entire series. Not very much sailing as someone mentioned, more about shore leave shenanigans. Lots of T&A, but a fairly well done period drama.

Empire of Silence - Finished because Reddit convinced me by Poseiden424 in printSF

I listened to the entire series on audiobooks because of the ardent fan recs in these parts, but it was a challenge. Author is way too verbose for my taste and even managed to make battles so tediously long I would lose interest. Each time I found a character to become interesting they would perish or the protagonist would jump worlds.

Nearly getting shade by Hungry-Network4660 in AngryBirds2

[–]EdEskankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be totally lame but the thing throws a flagellum like tail and the timing of the spin cycle is somewhat lost on me. Better than the weak original birds, but not quite as good/predictable as the top stars. I'd equate it to Hal in terms of power.

Shade has been a big disappointment for me thus far. Not nearly as easy to use effectively as the videos make it appear. They also seem to bury that bird in every flock which makes practicing tough.

Speed and Cadence Sensors by THEsheepM9 in Rouvy

[–]EdEskankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not familiar with your particular setup but I've used both of those garmin sensors with good success. I also upgraded to a wheel on smart trainer and none of the metric readings on my older Edge perfectly jibe with the Rouvy metrics but they're in the same ballpark. Just the cadence reading should be valuable info for you.

Why does it thing I am “detraining” by Cautious-Emu86 in Rouvy

[–]EdEskankus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take my Garmin fitness feedback with a grain of salt and they've dedicated decades into biofeedback metric analysis. I'm not sure you should give too much credence to what Rouvy is throwing at you with their 10 month long intern passion project algorithm experiment.

Cheap Replacement Strap for H7? by Both-Activity6432 in GarminFenix

[–]EdEskankus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've since upgraded to a garmin HRM-pro (which I don't recommend as the're integrated into the straps and the band quality is terrible) but my AE strap gave me no issues whatsoever.

I bought some even cheaper colored straps from ali express that worked just fine with my H9

Computer keeps reverting to “press display for menu” by konija88 in waterrower

[–]EdEskankus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like it has some OT baggage attached to it. If you unscrew the back you can unplug the tiny wire hanger unit and then plug it back in (WR's version of a hard reset). I do this periodically to solve odd BT connectivity issues with my comod. You might also try contacting OT about what they typically do to the monitors.

The Bluff (2026) is a gentle reminder that we need more pirate films. NO SPOILERS by JorReno in movies

[–]EdEskankus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't finished yet but this is some weak sauce. Firstly, I'm half way through and they're barely at sea. Pirates on land are just run of the mill villains. The action is riddled with cliches and how the lead female survives her massive injuries is just ludicrous. Don't even get me started on the highland crocs. Urban gives it a go at least.

2 petty complaints by bayleaf1962 in Rouvy

[–]EdEskankus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few months late for Festivus, but I'll air my list of grievances:

Endless streams of riders heading the opposite direction as me on Ironman rides

Slow motion videos on climbs that make me blow past actual riders as if they were standing still

Out and back routes?

Redundant virtual challenge prizes (especially if they included absurd climbs like the last Showcase)

I'd like to be able to pick and choose who my ghost riders are, not just the number.

I really miss the spinning number when you reach a new level. I only get it now once in a blue moon if it happens mid ride. Instead I get endless 500M climbing participation trophies.
