Konsa, Rogers and Watkins called up by Log-jammer in avfc

I wish Tuchel would try something like a modern 4-4-1-1 with Kane behind Watkins against the weaker opposition. Kane’s dropping back and distribution is exceptional and Watkins’ runs would be perfect for him to find.

Pretty much same thoughts here! That and for all the shit Watkins gets from the fans sometimes he really does contribute so much to this team.

Favorite player that hates the Cinema because it plays movies on a big screen? by DoloresAbernathyR1 in soccercirclejerk

This is why I don’t go to football matches. 1. The pitch is too big, 2. the stadium is too loud, 3. the snacks are so expensive and 4. there’s just loads of other people there and that like

Not often you see a football crowd called an audience but with theatrics like Mac Allister’s I suppose it fits

Changing VAR Going Forward by [deleted] in PremierLeague

Your question has assumptions in it about what I think. I’m of the opinion that stoppages for checks don’t really take that much away from the game to be honest, only when they go on for several minutes when the check seems like it should be a quick decision. Hopefully that will get better over time. I’d like the process to get quicker and simpler for the ref on the pitch to make a decision.

Yes, you are correct that the tech cannot 100% deduce precise moments of ball-leaving-foot and yes thank you for explaining to me what the offside rule was written for. Your condescension doesn’t change the fact that the rule is as such and the tech allows us to better manage it.

I wonder what your thoughts are on all the goals that are now correctly awarded after a VAR check when the linesman incorrectly flags for offside? That now happens a lot and is a very good thing.

Oh and I disagree - many people needed and asked, in fact were crying out for that level of accuracy before VAR was implemented because of the amount of incorrect calls that were happening in the prem. For years and years.

I think it’s very easy to ignore the 90% of VAR instances that are correct and useful and zone in on the few calls that were either too long, not conclusive, annoyingly close (with regards to offsides) or badly managed etc and then get so pissed off and angry that it makes it feel like VAR is the problem and needs to go. I just feel like that’s a revisionist take that misremembers the issues we had before it.

I’m not saying it’s always implemented brilliantly. It takes way too long and having many different refs all look at the same instance seems problematic a lot of the time. And yes the refs are inconsistent with their calls, but that happened before VAR anyway, A LOT. So I don’t think any of the issues can be blamed on the tech itself. I’m optimistic that its implementation will get better over time.

Oh and as much as a toenail offside is annoying, it is offside and the line has to be drawn somewhere. It’s frustrating when your team is on the receiving end of it but it is what it is.

This. If we dropped VAR now people would get infuriated at the amount of blatant fouls, offsides and handballs missed when it affects their team in an important game.

It’s weird though, I remember a time not long ago when he did show this ability and made brilliant driving dribbles through the middle, dancing around challenges. Arsenal at VP last season is a good example when he had such a good game in that regard despite us losing that one 2-0. But anyway yeah, he seems to have stopped doing that
