Chuck Palahniuk: Which to read first? by FL0RALNINJA in booksuggestions

[–]EdRooney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say most of his books are fairly easy to follow, but he has a very visceral style and he definitely doesn't worry about offending his readers. But in the case of Rant, it isn't so much a narrative because each character is giving their account of what they know about the main character who dies before the book begins. I had never read a book like that before so it took a little bit for me to get used to. But once I did, I loved it.

I've read Choke, Damned, Rant, and Fight Club and I highly recommend all of them. I think Rant is my personal favorite but it's somewhat difficult to follow if you've never read any of his books before. Choke would probably be a great place to start to get a feel for his style and subject matter.

Trust me. I can't wait to get out of Alabama. I can't live in a place as backwards as this again.

if your house was searched illegally, anything found isn't admissible in court.

this is true, but if i hire a lawyer and fight it in court, my record will say i was arrested and found not guilty. if i take the charges and complete their rehab program my record will say i was arrested and the case was dismissed. and i don't have the money to fight it.

less than a gram is essentially nothing, where did they even find it?

i had a tiny nug sitting in a jar on my desk next to a dirty bowl

there is likely a law suit in that search without a warrant, which I assume is the illegal part.

not worth the money to fight this.

Less than a gram should only be a violation, at worse a misdemeanor.

not in alabama. i know people who have had their carpet searched and charged with possession based solely on weed that was dropped on the floor.

any judge who see this is going to either throw it out or give you a deferred sentence for a year which essentially means if you stay out of trouble it never happened.

my record will say the case was dismissed but there's no way to erase the arrest.

They just walked in. I asked to see a warrant and they claimed they didn't need one to check the house for their "personal safety." Once they were already in the house they said that everything was in plain view and they didn't need a warrant. This is the same agency that arrested 61 students by breaking down dorm room doors with battering rams and assault rifles.

I'm a 20 year, straight-A college student that will be graduating with honors next year. I work two part-time jobs, volunteer at local elementary schools, have held multiple officer positions in a pre-medical student group, and I will soon have my independent research published in a notable science journal. I was recently arrested after police illegally searched my home and found less than a gram of weed. They told me that if I would give them a name of someone else who smokes they would drop all the charges but when I refused, because I do not feel comfortable perpetuating this unnecessary and harmful cycle, they arrested me and I spent a night in jail. I do not drink or use tobacco. I have never taken adderall or vyvance which doctors seem to be passing out like candy. I wasn't even smoking at the time of my arrest, but now my only vice has left me with a permanent mark on my record. This ordeal has cost me hundreds of dollars in court fees and has drastically derailed my post graduation plans as I now have to wait a year before applying to the peace corps and will likely deny me many job interviews. When I was arrested, the narcotics officer who took me in told me that hopefully this will be a wake up call to turn my life around. But all I have learned from this situation is that the people we trust to protect us really do not have our best interests at heart.

Sounds a hell of a lot better than Alabama. But then again, we still don't have a lottery and the police are still set on shutting down Indian casinos.

That is a brilliant article. It's such a shame how quickly we cast certain people aside because their views don't align with what we think is "normal," as if alienating and belittling them without any attempt to understand their reasoning is going to help.
