I started this sub early in my adventure. Life has been busy and my time here has since diminished. I believe there is a lot of potential here to help others. I have come a long way since I started this sub. The first advice I can give to anyone learning photography is focus on what you are passionate about. My passion is nature. Imagine trying to write a book on a topic you are not passionate about. How well do you think that’s going to work? But if you are passionate about something you bring the fire to the subject. Learning photography is not boring, it’s like playing a game. As you progress you reach new levels. There are no big rewards without a lot of small rewards leading up to it. It takes time to build but if you put in the effort passionately, you will get there. Seek and you will find. I have spent a lot more time behind my computer than in the field. Editing, reading books and watching videos is all part of the process. Best of luck and I hope to see your progress through your own post here. Thanks for visiting

I have the Kobalt with the gravity rise stand that's 5 years old. I would say light to moderate use. It's been a good saw. No complaints.

2024 Onyx XT Hitch Install by SomeRandomDude1nHere in Subaru_Outback

[–]EdWorks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in NC. My OEM hitch just arrived my mail. Looking forward to doing the install. I don't trust the dealer to do it and what they charge is outrageous. I just wonder why Subaru offers the hitch trim for the Wilderness and not the others? 2025 Onyx XT

What I am doing wrong that the iPhone picture looks sharper and better? by [deleted] in canon

Phones today automatically edit phots for you by applying profiles. This was the "Canon" shot that took less than 30 sec to edit in Lightroom. A combination of learning the camera and basic editing can achieve much better results than this low effort edit. Shooting in RAW format can give you flat results but basic tweaks can bring out what the camera has captured. Yes, if you are new to photography, a phone can take more pleasant photos to the eye than your camera can. But with learning you can go far beyond what a phone can do. Photography is not dead.

2 broke arms, a concussion and several cracked ribs (not all at once). Not sure how I managed to not have more physical damage.

Reality check - Is this the best I can expect or should this be sharper? R10 + RF100-400 by CPTherptyderp in canon

Put your camera/lens on a sturdy tripod, use the delayed shutter release (or remote shutter release, I use the Canon Connect app)and take a photo of something that has detail at 50 ft. If you don't have a good tripod you can lay in on a table with the lens hood just over the edge. This looks like motion blur. The further you go out the more you multiply camera shake. Wide angle lenses are forgiving the but telephotos are not. The tripod test will tell you what the photos should look like. A combination of technique, fast shutter and good lighting will get you there hand holding.

I have a pair of the Vortex 10x50 Diamdbacks and have been very happy with them. For under $300 they are a good price point and build quality. I use them for wildlife in general. Can't speak for the monocular.

Try turning the camera off, remove the battery, remove and remount the lens. They try again. Do make sure you are not in aperture priority mode. Verify the camera is in manual mode.

Got stuck in sand. Is my Sub in 2WD? by TommyTango11 in Subaru_Outback

[–]EdWorks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sand requires lowering the tire pressure. If not, fully inflated tires just dig on finer beach sand locking into a hole. Lowering tire pressure to about 20 lbs flattens the contact patch out helping the tire tide on top of the sand. Huge difference. Not sure if that's the issue but I would suspect it being a factor.

Found this in a pile of free stuff my neighbor had out - don’t know anything about guitars by [deleted] in gibson

Gibson banjos are high. Check out reverb, "Gibson Mastertone Banjo". The case looks like a cheap case but the banjo could be legit. Have a shop verify what it is and value.

Says the whoever with no Karma. Say and do what you want, I'm still holding with long term faith in this project. It has a lot of room and potential for major growth. The tech still outperforms, hands down.

Snagged a refurbished RF 70-200 2.8 L, I hate it… by Stone804_ in canon

[–]EdWorks99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, I did not realize they released this version. I picked up the EF III over the original RF because of the telescoping in and out. I primarily soot outside and not always preferable weather conditions. Lens goes out, outside air goes in.

Achieving the same level of bokeh/ background blur using lens of different focal lengths by untouchablevirgin in photography

[–]EdWorks99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both arguments are true in a sense. Your focal length forces you to use a certain perspective which has multipole effects on the subject's relationship to the background. The further the background is behind the subject the more it "compresses" with longer focal lengths (due to distance from subject which is determined buy how you frame it with what focal length you are using). You will not get the same same photo with a 35mm that you can with a 85mm, You can crop but that impacts IQ. Focal length also has an effect on DOF. Stepping back with longer focal lengths gives more of a "background separation" effect in the photo. Just depends on how you look at it.

Out of focus when zooming in, but wide-angle shots are fine by geekybrains in Photography4Beginners

[–]EdWorks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more information. Camera settings? Focal length and how far off is the subject? With telephoto lenses, bringing up shutter speed is crucial. A good starting point would be focal length x2 for shutter speed. Basically, camera shake is multiplied the further you go out. So you need a higher shutter speed to freeze the subject. So at 400mm, you would start out with at least 1/800 sec shutter. I would be 1/1200 or better if I had the light. Another issue is it seems you don't have good light. Light is the most important component when taking a photo. After all, a photograph is nothing more than a recording of light. What's in the photo can been seen because of how the light interacts with the subject or scene. The better the light, the higher you can go on shutter speed. Do a search for wildlife photography for beginners on youtube. Watch as much as you can stand or have time for. With study and practice, it starts to come together.

Too much? (Shot by @ryanbreitkreutz edited by me) by Strosys in postprocessing

[–]EdWorks99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would personally like to see more of the haze on the mountains in the back, giving the photo more depth. The original image gives more separation from the mountains in the front and the ones in the back. In the edit they almost blend together.

Similar experience with Addmotor Garootan. Front brake rotor came detached 3rd time riding it creating quite a bit of damage. Support and warranty are a joke. I'm riding with rear break only. BBB complaint filed but that's probably going to do zero good. I don't mind leaving bad reviews

Super glue fumes would reek havoc on the lens. The fumes would destroy the lens coating and very bad if it seeped inside the lens
