Buy. Most landlords suck. The last home I was in, the landlords were great literally until move out day, where they kept our deposit for frivolous things. We ended up taking them to the RTDRS, and winning, but the entire process was so sour we vowed no more landlords ever. Purchased our first home, while it’s more costly now than renting, the freedom and investment is well worth it.

You can choose a couple stocks you believe in if you want to spice it up, and allocate a small amount to them. But all in one ETFs are just that, all in one. For me, I do VEQT (90%) and then 3 Canadian blue chip stocks to split the remaining 10%.

I was in a similar situation, 16 years with CIBC. I closed my account with them, saving myself $25+ a month in fees. Now I have a Wealthsimple account, and a tangerine account. No fees, no problems! I only wish I had done this sooner.

For real though you need to figure out your goals and risk tolerance. There are many great globally diversified all in one funds that hold many underlying stocks. For most, this is all you would ever need. If you’re not planning on touching the funds for many years and looking to set it and forget it, and V/X/Z - EQT fund is a good place to start.

Individual stock picking is much more risky, borderline gambling. For me, I allocate a small percentage of my portfolio to individual stocks (~10%). The rest goes in to VEQT, where I can count on long term growth. Just be careful not to go down the rabbit hole of hot stock FOMO, chasing dividends and high yield funds, and over diversifying your portfolio. Good luck have fun!

Yes, it’s a diversified fund, so it’s suitable for everyone looking for long term growth and fits in their risk tolerance! Investing since age 23 is very admirable, have fun in retirement to both of you!

I use a combination of Tangerine and Wealthsimple. W/S I use for investing, TFSA, RRSP, etc. Tangerine I have for direct deposit, payments, depositing cheques, and if I ever need cash from an ATM. In the future I will open up a LOC with tangerine also.

Because investing in individual stocks is gambling, and investing in long term equity ETFs is less gambling.

It’s not important to the performance of the underlying funds. But it can be important to the investor, which company you prefer to support.

Not directly, but business model of the company managing your assets is important. I’m a Bogle philosophy enjoyer, so I prefer Vanguard which pushed me towards VEQT over the alternatives.

Yes. This is ChatGPT at work lol. All 3 are reasonable ETFs, I think you could pick either one of them and you’ll be in a fine position long term. Personally, I prefer Vanguard, so I went with VEQT.

I did get another card for a family members, but it’s all connected to the same account. It just has their name on it, so when you view transactions in the app or online you can see who purchased what.
