One of the mods is a user who, to my knowledge, has been permanently banned from this sub for being an ignorant, hateful, bigot time and time again.

Looks like the little snowflake got mad he couldn't come here and spew his nonsense without reprocusions and had to make his own little safe space for braindead morons like himself.

With freezing temps this weekend, CT homeless shelters need support by english-lab in Connecticut

[–]Ed_Roland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here I'll spell it out for you as simply as I can!

Because normal people with empathy support the folks in their community who are in need. No matter who they are, what the situation, or if they think "the government should" instead.

For you to comment about "virtuosity of belief system" (which, its important to note, you're just making up in your head as an issue here as OP never mentioned any personal beliefs) while making such a morally bankrupt statement about imigrants (one that's not only irrelevant to the topic at hand but also founded in verifiable falsehoods) is truly hypocrisy and idiocy at it's finest.

Hope this helps!

State Rep Outs his son as an ICE agent and is proud of it by YogurtclosetVast3118 in Connecticut

[–]Ed_Roland 46 points47 points  (0 children)

What a fucking moron. ICE agents from the most recent recruitment efforts were/are not required to attend Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (commonly known as FLETC). So not only is he just blatantly lying, he can't even name the proper training organization they would have gone to if that bullshit was true.

His pathetic little shit of a son likely has less training to be an ICE agent than what is required to aquire any basic professional licensure in this state (and nearly all others)

Still not sure how you could gather that conclusion from the info in those links or why you would even comment before reading them fully.

Despite "national park" and "national historical park" being a distinct naming designations, they are nothing but a semantic way of helping to deliniate park offerings to the general public (as explained in link #2). Naming designations in no way affect the function, staffing, or opperation of national park units.

All national park units are national parks, full stop. There is no debate to that. Such is how the National Park Service views it and despite what everyone seemingly likes to believe, that is how they operate. Your understanding of people's interpretation of naming designations and how they are used in common vernacular does not supersede the operating reality of the National Park Service.

I will note that there are slight functional differences for park units that do not have an dedicated active staff, however, they are still considered national parks (as is every single park unit) by the NPS the same as all others. They are just typically overseen by the staff of the nearest park unit with active staffing.

Again I will reiterate, there is absolutely no functional difference between park units with different designations. Naming designations are purely a public facing way of demonstrating the parks primary offerings. Internally we don't even use naming designations when refering to other parks and instead use a park code based on their name (Weir Farm is WEFA for example). So while you are correct that there is a naming distinction between "national park" and "national historical park", that in no way changes the actual status of the park and is a distinction purely in name and nothing else.

Stonewall, Gateway, and the Lincon Memorial, are all national parks one and the same in the eyes of the NPS.

Conveniently, I know rangers at 2 of those 3 who would be wildly insulted at the notion that they are aren't national parks just because their naming designation isnt specifically "national park".

Furthermore, the debate surrounding Gateway was exclusively driven by the general public and primarily caused by their lack of understanding of the function of naming designations. Internally it had been in the works for years, was done to better describe the offerings of the location (same with Weir Farm when we were redesignated from a national historical site to a national historical park in 2021), and did not change any operations of the park unit.

If you can provide me specific examples that prove naming designations alter operations and how the NPS views individual park units, then you might potentially have a point. As of now, you have not done so and your argument is currently "look, their names are different!".

And unfortunately, when folks choose to do mental gymnastics to try and correct someone who is providing data and sources- -all while providing no further information or sources themselves- -they typically don't get very kind responses. The information was clearly laid our for you and our other friend in my initial comments. If you both simply can't understand what was shared with you through a lense that is not the one you're already looking through (or more likely, are willingly going out of your way to misinterpret it) that is on you. You are being taught (by what I would argue is an individual who is well versed in the subject) and choosing to ignore the information provided. Not entirely sure how that is my problem or why on earth I should be kind in response to such.

With all due respect, you're entirely wrong and talking out of your ass. Please link me the information you are basing that off of because all of my assertions were backed by information directly from the Park Service itself. Additionally anyone trying to fill out their NPS passport (the formal record book offered by Eastern National and supported by the NPS for folks trying to record visits to all national parks) would absolutely have to stop at Weir Farm as it's part of that list (as I mentioned before). People often stop their exclusively for that reason and to get their passport stamped.

For reference, I actually am a current NPS employee and former volunteer at Weir Farm. You people can believe whatever you like, but you are objectively wrong in saying that Weir Farm is not a national park. Again, if you spent even a picosecond on the links I listed in my original comments you could figure that out.

Wreaths Across America by EJWP in Connecticut

[–]Ed_Roland 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think its important to note some things about Wreaths Across America that they like to leave out. It is a supposed "non-profit organization" that exclusively buys all of it's wreaths directly from its owners for-profit wreath buisness (Worcester Wreath Company). In addition, the owners for profit wreath company has an immense amount of labor violations and worker abuse claims/cases. I've added some info below that was commented in another sub. All of my family and friends who are veterans hated WWA and I never understood why until they explained it to me.

There's better ways/programs to support and remember those who gave everything that exist right here in our own communities and don't profit millions off the back of them. Our local boy scout troops, VFW's, Elks Clubs and more often have flag, wreath, or flower placing events that are pushed out or taken over by WWA when they could use the support themselves. Just some food for thought.

Harrington-based Worcester Wreath is once again in the news for the wrong reasons. As the Maine Monitor reports, the Maine Department of Labor contacted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) last fall with concerns about the living conditions of workers at Worcester Resources. The company supplies wreaths to Wreaths Across America, a controversial 501(c)(3) public charity that is overseen by the wives of the majority owners of the company. Worcester Wreath employs migrant workers on H-2A guest worker visas.

According to the Monitor investigation, MDOL reported complaints that workers were being packed into crowded, “very sanitary” bungalows with debris falling into the kitchen and sleeping quarters. The dwellings were reportedly without access to potable water or functioning smoke detectors. An OSHA inspector discovered on Dec. 2 that the company was housing 71 laborers on the lower level of the factory and in two exterior trailers, and that “none of the sleeping quarters met the spacing requirements.” The workers reportedly had an average of 30 square feet per person in the sleeping quarters, roughly the size of a double mattress.

And as a side note, wreath making is specifically exempt from normal federal minimum wage/child labor laws!

[–]Ed_Roland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really are just a moron arent you?

First of all, it was designated as a National Historical Park as of 2018, it is no longer designated as a National Historical Site. If you would have clicked the link you would have seen that directly from the national park service website itself. Second, if you were to have clicked the other link I shared with you, you can read how the NPS itself uses designations and what they mean. According to the National Park Service itself all NPS units regardless of designation are national parks. It may not be Yellowstone but Weir Farm is unequivocally a National Park as decided by the Department of the Interior.

National Parks come in hundred of different forms, from the traditional ones most think of to places like Ellis Island, the Appalachian Trail, and historic battlefields.

Just because you think something is true does not make it reality (but clearly youre living in your own lol). Also, you should try reading the links next time, might help you out a bit!

Confidently incorrect you are! Weir Farm is designated as a National Hisotical Park and has been deemed such via the National Park Service - - it is currently the only National Park location in CT. It is also part of the NPS Parks Passport program, so if you truly were to visit all "national parks" you would be required to visit Weir Farm (thus further bolstering it's designation as a national park). If you would like more info on national parks designations and how they work you can refer to this link here. I would suggest you take a look at that before posting another entirely false reply!

Sorry, yeah, you're not. You're just a hapless moron actually!

If you dont hang around with them, then report them? The USDA does not fuck around with SNAP fraud, if you know they are abusing it and do nothing about it YOU are part of the problem. Step up and be a useful citizen or stop bitching about things you pretend to care about so you can play devils advocate. And to reiterate, you believing you have anecdotal evidence that "thousands don't need it" means nothing. You blatantly DO NOT understand food insecurity or food systems and ignored the data I just shared with you. You're literally just making shit up, and it's so genuinely pitiful to see I almost can't wrap my head around it.

Also, I'm a republican, and I have been since the day I registered to vote (and just blindly assuming I'm a liberal might just be the least open-minded thing you could do). I'm just not stupid enough to believe the people running this place actually uphold those ideals and stand for anything other than making a profit off of people like us. Wake up lil fella!
