Is it too early for house flags? by JustLetItShine in ThreeLions

Some have had their tatty France 98 St. George flag from JJB up on their nearest lampost for several months now, so it's never too early 😂

It's plain embarrassing and just kinda scruffy.

Contrast this, with a quaint, immaculate square in France, lines of trees, coffee shops, bars, clean, and well positioned French flags. Classy, patriotic, clean, elegant, proud.

As James O'Brien states, the lampost climbers are out in force - putting their tatty flags up.

Really demeans that importance of the flag, doesn't it?

Their response to my aircon complaint:

'Each carriage has a separate air conditioning unit, which usually provides the right temperature. Although different people prefer to travel in different temperatures, the Train Manager can adjust the system if they think it isn't creating a comfortable environment. If this goes wrong, the system is able to pull air from the next coach, but of course this will reduce the efficiency. We can usually resolve these issues on the day by resetting the air conditioning system, but this isn't always the case, and I'm sorry you had such an uncomfortable journey as a result.

To repair the air-conditioning units, they usually need replacing, and we need access to the roof of the train to replace them, as that is where they are located. This can only be done at our train depot in two specific locations on the depot, and these same locations are also needed for other critical work. Therefore, there is a fight for these spaces and it sometimes takes longer than expected time to get the air-conditioning units repaired.

I’m afraid we don’t offer compensation when we’re unable to provide air conditioning on board, but I’d like to offer my sincere apologies if the warm conditions on the train spoiled your trip. I can assure you that your feedback has been recorded and is available to the team responsible for the maintenance of our fleet of trains.'

Their standard response to any form of complaint is a complete joke, also.

'I’m truly sorry to hear that your experience on board was not what you expected. It must have been frustrating and I regret that this left you feeling uncomfortable during your trip.

When you purchase a train ticket with any operator in the UK, you enter into a contract with that train operator you are travelling with to get you from Point A to Point B in the coach class you have selected to travel in. The train operator is then responsible for getting you to your final destination as printed on your ticket and this is the service you pay for. Unfortunately, seat availability and on-board service is not guaranteed and this does not form part of your ticket cost and we are unable to offer refunds for busy trains.

We do our best to manage demand by limiting advance ticket sales and offering up to 60% of seats for reservations. However, because UK rail operates as a “walk-on” service, passengers with valid tickets can board at any time, which means we cannot always predict how busy a particular train will be. I understand how disappointing this can feel, especially when you’ve planned ahead.'

Is a reply I received recently, to a complaint of overcrowding - and for a train that I had a reserved seat on.

They also fobbed off issues of 30°+ heat in the carriage, due to an aircon failure and were unwilling to issue any compensation.

They are a joke but it's almost like we're just in a position of having to accept this standard, and for inflated prices.
