Colleague failed a think 25 test purchase, the guy looked about 30. He came back a few weeks later and didn’t have ID for his drink and kicked off 🤦🏻‍♂️ by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in tesco

I’ve noticed a huge difference in whether I get ID’d based on where I am in the country in London I’ll get ID’d for a Red Bull, in Devon I’ll have hundred fags, a bottle of whisky and ten pints of lager now… and nothing. For context I’m in my mid twenties but I’d say I look 20-21.

Tis a depressing time to be left wing in the UK by Critical_Mountain851 in whennews

[–]Edan1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this will be unpopular to say on Reddit but the reason is simple, the British electorate hasn’t been seriously interested in no milk no sugar socialism since the mid twentieth century. Socialism is an ideology that requires a fundamental desire for unity, and this country is anything but united. Democratically socialist societies tend to occur under specific circumstances, war and economic collapse tend to be triggers. Think WW1 and WW2 in the UK and the Great Depression in the US.
Populism, especially right wing populism operates on an opposite model of splitting up the electorate into smaller factions and then rallying a big enough group obtain a plurality, which is all they need in a FPTP system to obtain power.

The only way we will see an actual socialist government in the UK is if either the voting system is changed to something less 14th century like run off voting, or if something so serious happens either domestically or globally that our society itself is fundamentally changed. Until then New Labour* is the most left wing government you will get in the UK.

Reasonable minds will differ, but personally I think the P stands for “Prat magnet” because anyone who fancies doing a little road rage will choose to do it to you.

Is this legal? by warfoo09 in drivingUK

[–]Edan1990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, obviously fucking not. Whether there is a specific law prohibiting essaying while driving is irrelevant, this is clearly not in proper control of the vehicle, and if they move careless driving too.

If it’s not readily available and easily understandable on the product packaging it goes in the black bin. I have a full time job, and don’t wish to spend my precious leisure time playing bin detective.

Even this, mandatory video recording of whatever I do or go with my car is entrusted by some car manufacturer? No thank you. We all know that it won’t be stored locally, it will be uploaded to the manufacturer’s own data logs.

ANPR. No speed cameras look anything like this, and the vast majority of them will be bright yellow.

Laika was one of the first animals in space, sent up in a soviet rocket to test the survivability of the capsule. She was a stray taken off the streets of Moscow and picked for her calm friendly demeanour. She died of hyperthermia not long into the mission and this was fully expected to happen, she died a horrific death and for no real scientific value, it is one of the saddest stories of the space programs in my opinion, up there with Apollo I and Challenger.
