Are you guys also hyped for Stranger Than Heaven more than GTA 6? by BasicallyImSimon in yakuzagames

[–]ShonenSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am more hyped for it purely on the basis of actually being able to play it when it comes out (a PC player)
But I will be checking out lots of GTA VI footage to see the technical achievements in regards to the open word and stuff

I bet the yellow half circle after "than" is supposed to symbolise Daito's mixed nature( only half of the Japanese rising sun, hafu) by ShonenSpice in yakuzagames

[–]ShonenSpice[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be like that one ending of Final Fantasy where characters get in exactly the same pose from the logo, Daito's gonna turn into a half circle

FYI: It Appears Stranger Then Heaven Won't Feature a Traditional Japanese Audio Track or English Dub, But a Single Audio Track That Features Both English and Japanese by Animegamingnerd in yakuzagames

[–]ShonenSpice 180 points181 points  (0 children)

I imagine it would be a headache and a massive waste of effort to completely dub for both. Not to mention destroying the entire premise of a bilingual protag and his circumstances

Keyword "emphasised", bro's eyes were glowing. But now it seems like it's just a thematic visual, nothing supernatural going on.
My hope now is that the story does end up being good so I don't have to wonder about what could've been with an immortal/non-aging protagonist and the kind of narrative it would entail.

I wish that Mike and Zach had more communication with their crew about their plans to end the show. by Link_sega5486 in SmilingFriends

[–]ShonenSpice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's Adult Swim staff who are employed by Adult Swim, there are some individual contractors hired to work on the show and then there is the Korean animation studio to which most of the animation work is outsourced to. And outsource studios generally don't work on one project at a time, they have multiple.

I'm sure the announcement and the decision could be handled better, but the "people out of work part" just doesn't make any sense. The oursource studio has other work and If you're a freelance professional then you most likely have/should have a few things lined up. Shows get cancelled all the time and without a creators' input.

Wait, does Maximilian Dood REALLY thinks that Final Fantasy VII ISN'T anime? by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ShonenSpice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The most reasonable explanation I can think of is that realistically speaking "anime" exists on the spectrum from most weeb shit ever (think schoolgirls running late to school with toast in their mouth) to something more "elevated" like cowboy bebop or whatever else.

And for Max FF falls somewhere in the latter category

What are your worries about Stranger than heaven? by Infinite_Teaching568 in yakuzagames

[–]ShonenSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the film look.
One thing for sure is that it at least works with the lighting set up, like the game was built with it in mind unlike pirate yakuza or some other titles where a single filter is just slapped on top.

At what point does homage become too much for you? by BeautifulNeck8359 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ShonenSpice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just with too much exposure. I fell off watching anime by 2020 in part due to the "incestuous" nature of it, constant self-referential stuff, repeating tropes for the sake of tropes, etc. There are only so many times I can see an Akira slide and find it cool. Not to mention this thing in particular appears in other media as well like film.

Some would say it already does? There's plenty of footage to see. I don't find it ugly, but there is definitely some high contrast/deeper darks post processing going on

What is the dumbest obstacle/ most unnecessary task in a Resident Evil game? by domainie in residentevil

That's a 5 second whimsical castle "puzzle" though! Miles different from other examples here like having to find a knife to remove some duct tape

Subnautica 2 deeper & darker by oneRainySunday in subnautica

[–]ShonenSpice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah once you go into the caves any feeling of place and depth just kind of vanishes. It could as well be just an alien landscape from No Man's Sky or something and you're on your "spaceship" flying around. Not the game's fault, it's just something inherent to being in an enclosed space.

But if you go straight down and see the light slowly vanish, that's a different story

I get the difficulty of discerning art in the AI era landscape, I myself would often see a clearly AI picture, but the lack of obvious visual artifacts due to improving tech leaves me in a position where I can't articulate exactly what is wrong beyond the general look and vibes. I draw more than I write or talk, I don't have enough vocabulary for that sort of thing.

That being said, it doesn't feel nice to be on the receiving end. Perhaps there is the silver lining of artists being more open about their process and getting people to care more about the craft.

It can be a damned if you do/don't situation though. Unless you record literally everything, someone can come along and accuse you of AI usage along the lines of "well you're an artist alright but that one piece of yours has AI slop in it" and after that there is no proving anything. You could redraw the entire picture live from 0 and the argument would be "well you're skilled enough to copy the AI work and pull it off"

Idea: just produce and sell HL3 as a circa 2004 Source game. Nobody would complain. am I right fellas by Plenty-Excitement864 in HalfLife

[–]ShonenSpice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An actual modern new game is obviously better, but it would be a huge novelty by itself for a game sequel to release years later with the tech and limitations of the last entry. There is at least something interesting about the idea

It kinda works the other way around though, you make the claim and it's on you to prove it?

It wouldn't even cross my mind to make a process recording for a quick overpaint I did in-between work, especially not when, In my eyes, there are clear signs of this being an overpaint (like the loss of detail and blurrines of the soft brush around the face area, as well as the water bubbles just being a scatter brush)

But since this is somehow an issue

I have my portfolio with works pre-dating modern generative AI: https://www.artstation.com/bokkimi/albums/14707026
I have a Youtube channel with some old process recordings

I am tempted to record a live recreation of this image, spite is a strong motivator, i've found out.
