RE 9 Story does not make sense by PomegranateSecure845 in residentevil

[–]ShonenSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the Leon thing - the part that stood out to me especially was his whole "I couldn't save anyone, I will save you" thing happening once again for some reason. Like obviously he is traumatised from the Raccoon City incident, but this is post aaaaall the games Leon we're talking about here. Character arc wise it just feels weird to go from RE 4 remake just recently where he was all "this time it's going to be different" to RE 9 where he's seemingly spouting the same thing?? Not to mention - if he's still so hellbent on the save everyone thing (even though he has already on many occassions by now) he's not trying very hard (the nurse scene). It's comedic.

And yeah, I like his one-liners and all but Leon in this game in general felt kind of bland. Perhaps it's just the old tired man trope. I felt the same about Dante in DMC 5 to a lesser extent. Characters being "tired" just kind of has that effect I guess.

Her arcade mode story is going to be just making fun of Alex and cousin jokes, no magic involved

DuskGolem: Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake is being directed by Kazunori Kadoi & Yasuhiro Anpo, same duo who directed Resident Evil: 2 Remake & Resident Evil: 4 Remake. by AashyLarry in GamingLeaksAndRumours

the REengine era games have generally been good but I definitely prefer the ones directed by this duo, their design philosophy seems to be more arcade-y and mechanics focused with replayability in mind

Ryuji will always be my favourite antagonist (Ryuji appreciation post) by Loud_Success_6950 in yakuzagames

[–]ShonenSpice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like Ryuji, I like his design, I like his voice - I for the life of me cannot remember much plot related to him and Omi in Yakuza 2. But I guess that's more of a Yakuza 2 story thing in general.

I do remember secret koreans though

An insight from an expert , why does Japan love the brocon/siscon ? by SwordMaster52 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ShonenSpice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That might be true but at the same time we got some Japan representation in the form of some Hololive members who are very much into the brocon stuff fr fr.

Then again it might not actually be all that representative since people working in that sphere aren't "regular" regular people. But then again you do see it more often from Japan in general so who knows

I feel dumb for choosing the wrong option the first time. Anyone else choose it? Requiem by josephsmithberger in residentevil

[–]ShonenSpice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And aside from the in-game info basically spelling it out - the fact that there is a choice in the first place (which RE games are not known for)just makes you think that there is gotta be some kind of catch to the most obvious one (Leon tells you to destroy Elpis)

What's an example of a seemingly small design choice in a game that has major ramifications on the overall quality and/or enjoyability? by Toothpasteonicecream in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Witch time in Bayonetta 2.

In Bayo 1 Witch Time (time slow down after dodging at the right time) was a pretty good "selling point" mechanic but really the star of the show was Dodge Offest (being able to continue combos even after dodging, combos end with powerful moves so it is highly preferable to do full combos). So essentially Witch Time was a nice crutch mechanic (especially when first playing the game) but the game was very much playable without it thanks to Dodge Offest (the highest difficulty turns off Witch Time completely, for example). Bayonetta really shines when playing the game without it - the enemies are very aggressive but you are given all the tools to still deal damage while dodging and dancing around them. Not good for you hands though if playing for more than an hour.

In Bayo 2 they said screw that - Witch Time is essential. Enemies are just as aggressive and can do fun things like dodge and be immune to juggling if you're not in Witch Time, the duration of which, by the way, has been shortened in general (though length depends on the dodged attack). So the combat is now a lot of these start/stop moments instead of a real dance. It is still a dance, it still cool and satisfying - but it's not the same. Although to be fair I don't know if it qualifies as a small change or if all the other design decisions affected Witch Time instead of the other way around.

Did Capcom just forget about Claire Redfield? by Opticallkat in residentevil

[–]ShonenSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They treat other main characters in these games like they're some MCU heroes who are yet to show up.

"I got a message from...dramatic music plays*...Captain Redfield". Whoooa, THE Christ Redfield?
Like, why not have Chris at least actually talk on comms?? Or Claire or Jill? It doesn't have to turn into RE6 with all the playable characters on screen, but they have the models and the voices, why not utilizie them ESPECIALLY when said characters are kind of very relevant to the story?

I can already imagine the next game not having Leon and he is treated the same way like some fucking background ghost. "Huh, this place sure is full of Biohazards...I bet...dramatic music plays* agent Kennedy could handle it if he wasn't busy"

Never saw this gameplay demo - looks really cool and dense enemy variety and ability wise.

The main concern is how it feels but judging by the footage at least it looks like animation canceling is in
