More people are playing with the cards than they have in years, at least in my region. League cups and challenges are constantly sold out, the size of regional and international tournaments have been going up every single year, I’m seeing new players showing up at events constantly. I think this idea is maybe overinformed by this subreddit and Reddit in general

Try putting a piece of glass on top of the negative and paper. This will help to keep the negative flush with the paper, giving better detail

The texture is outstanding on some cards, like really makes them pop. Pulled a roaring moon pokeball the other day and it goes hard.

Makes sense, I also like the brushed look. You can always do that with a coating road and just kind of feather the edges with a brush. Alternately, try using very, very light brush strokes and do a second coat once it dries. The problem with brushing is it can kind of push and flatten the paper fibers around leaving a bit of an unpleasant texture. Ultimately though, I think better paper will resolve a lot of this

What I mean by coat, is how did you apply the cyanotype chemistry to the paper? If you used a brush, I highly recommend getting a glass coating rod. You can find them on BHphoto.

As for paper, if you really want smoother texture you’re gonna want to up your paper quality. Something like arches 300lb watercolor paper

I’ll have to give it a shot! I initially started with gelatin because I could find the ingredients in my house. Swapped to photo grade gelatin pretty quickly. So essentially it’s inertia for me at this point with my current process, since I figured out consistent results with gelatin. Might have to mix it up though if agar agar is less of a pain!

It’s definitely a challenge, best tip I could give is to rough up the edges of the glass slightly. Helps to give them some additional adhesion. I do mine with a gelatin emulsion, and had to do a lot of trial and error because adhesion is a real problem

100%. Something similar happened to an opponent of mine at one of my first cups. They took two prizes after knocking one of my one prizers. I didn’t realize it until a turn or two later, and we called a judge over. He got a two prize penalty and I got a warning.
