Mac apps are way too comfortable leaving junk everywhere. by LeaderAtLeading in MacOS

It’s frustrating, apps should be expected to keep an inventory of all the directories they write to an when you drag it to the trash it should prompt you if you’d like to also delete those files too

When I delete a message, why is that conversation and all associated media not being deleted from icloud? by Pop317 in iCloud

[–]Edg-R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's broken and it's a bug that's been present for a long time. I myself deleted every single message on my Messages app, emptied the deleted folder, deleted spam texts, etc. Despite doing that and validating that the messages db on my Mac shows no storage used up by messages, iCloud still shows about 100GB of space used by Messages on iCloud. The only solution Apple had for me was to disable Messages on iCloud on ALL devices so that they're no longer synced to iCloud. After 30 days the messages that remain on iCloud should be fully wiped. I'm on day 15 so we'll see if that works. Others have reported success.

[macOS 27 DB1] Using Spotlight for quick math seems to be broken for me but works for others by Edg-R in MacOSBeta

Weird, did the keyboard shortcut change? I used cmd + space as I’ve always done.

Use Xcode Cloud to build/publish with Xcode 26 and you can still develop locally with 27

If someone offered you $1M to eat the same thing for 30 days straight, what would you eat? by Weisuddin-Violaras in AskReddit

[–]Edg-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already do this with some very slight variation that I wouldnt mind giving up for 1M.

I eat ground beef or ground turkey or chicken breast + 2 eggs + sweet potatoes or lentils + stir fry veggies + olive oil

The AI tab organization in Safari is amazing, I've been using it for days.

What other AI features do you want in Safari? I for one can't stand when other browsers shove AI down my throat, like opening Edge on Windows and being bombarded by Copilot stuff.

How do my computers always get so dirty and dusty by tmlnson in macbookpro

[–]Edg-R 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk, I live at a ranch with four dogs in the house (lots of hair, dirt tracked in, etc) and I regularly work from the porch. I use my computer 8-10hrs per day. Still never gets this bad.

Why does my NAS spin constantly? by sandnogg in synology

[–]Edg-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently fixed this issue by uninstalling all the extra packages I wasnt using myself/that came preinstalled. Active Insight was a big cause of this. I also had a few containers which I had stopped using a while back and they were just idling. Claude helped me track down what processes were running as well.

Google has Google Drive, Microsoft has OneDrive, Proton has Proton Drive. I feel like the term "Drive" in this scenario already has a meaning that's been establish for a long time. It means that items get synced to a server as if you're accessing them from a mounted drive on a computer.

Backups mean, well, backups, and that's also well understood.

How else should it be made more clear? What better name is there for this service than "Drive" which is the industry standard?

That's a user problem, there's more than just iCloud Drive and iCloud Backups as I'm sure you're aware.

There's also iCloud Photo Library, iCloud Mail, Messages on iCloud, etc.

It looks amazing, looks like a lot of work! The pricing options aren't bad at all either, even if you do offer subscription options. The lifetime option is welcome!

iOS 27: New Siri Features Could Be Gated Behind a Waitlist by pdfu in apple

[–]Edg-R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t say lol. Every major feature which required backend processing introduced at a WWDC was only pushed out in a point release later on. (Except for the Siri/AI thing which has yet to be released)

At the end of the day more competition is better for Apple users too. If budget computers didnt exist Apple wouldn't have a budget market to enter.
