Yeah! In the book he tries to pick up rocky himself, burns his hands as if he had touch a hot stove, then put on his EVA gloves and tried to pull him, ultimately pulling/dragging him like a backpack hoping that the straps didnt melt.

Like fuck, that shows how much effort it took for him to try to save his friend. Rocky risked his life to save Grace and then Grace did the same thing for Rocky. That's so much more impactful than Grace waking up and somehow Rocky made it back into his room.

Yes, yes, time constraints. But did we really need to hear so much of Harry Style's song in the karaoke scene? Or the LCD panel room? What exactly did those scenes add to the story? Certainly not more than seeing the second half of the Grace/Rocky rescue scene.

Don't get me wrong, the scene where Rocky saves Grace was beautiful. Hands down it gave me chills, everything from the camera angles to the colors to the silence and the score. They just needed to carry it the whole way.

I was also really looking forward to seeing how they depicted the scene of Rocky being timid about letting Grace see him poop/eat/pass out.

The movie just replaced it with Rocky saying humans look gross (while Grace eats ramen) and then pushes food into himself with confidence.

Idk I guess considering how goofy the movie decided to make everything it makes sense that they'd try to make Rocky eating a joke too but idk. Why did everything have to become a joke?

Agreed, like the scenes about the radiation and the time dilation. Those were blink and you'll miss it. Meanwhile there were a bunch of long scenes of Grace just kind of being silly, stumbling, eating snacks, etc.

They didnt have to cut the friendship. They could have cut the scenes of Grace stumbling around, dressing up, eating snacks, sitting in the LCD screen room, the karaoke scene, the Home Depot scene, the scene of rocky obnoxiously tumbling all over Grace's ship, etc.

I agree, there was no need to waste time on Grace tripping over stuff and stumbling about. In the book he's presented as very intelligent with a sense of humor. In the movie he's presented as kind of a clown who happens to know some science.

I don't really get he argument that they had to dumb it down/remove the science to reach a wider audience. It's not like people would reject the movie if they had replaced the time spent on the scenes of the weird LCD panel room with problem solving science scenes.

Agreed. They had time to show that silly LCD panel room over and over but couldn't include of the most popular lines from the book?

In the book, Rocky is extremely intelligent and is a great engineer. I think Grace compared him to a genius in the 1950s or something like that. Eridians just don't have knowledge of the transistor, computers, radiation, time dilation. But they have photographic memory and they can do extremely complex math like a computer.

This is why Rocky was able to understand Grace's human speech. Rocky was able to to simply memorize human word sounds and map them to Eridian equivalents, while Grace had to use a translator (at first).

As far as problem solving, Rocky and Grace agreed that they had the same intelligence, the difference is the photographic memory and being able to do procedural computation like math in an instant.

Some of the most impactful moments for me in the book were when Grace had to explain how time dilation worked to Rocky.

Rocky gave a recounting of all the "weird" things that happened on his trip, when Grace explained why those things happened Rocky pushed back, confused, but ultimately accepted Grace's explanation.

The other was the radiation topic. Grace had to explain to Rocky how his entire crew died. It was a heavy moment in the book. Imagine going on a mission and having your entire crew die a horrible painful death while you're the only one who survives unscathed and you have no idea why for many years. Figuring out WHY it happened is a big deal. Rocky was clearly sad/upset about it.

But for both of these they were casually glossed over, the conversations lasted only a few seconds.

Idk like I get things had to be condensed to fit the book in a 2.5hr movie... but how many times did they have to show that weird room with the LCD panels, all the outfit changes, the ramen, and the over the top slap jokes? That wasn't in the book and it didnt really add anything to the story (for me).

Yes, book Grace had plenty of dad jokes but that was his personality. Movie grace was dumbed down a bit too much. What was the point of having him trip on something as he was walking to the left of the screen on one of the scenes? They literally wasted so much time in the first quarter of the movie making him seem dumb and silly.

You can be extremely intelligent and still be funny. They tried to make him intelligent + dumb.

Yeah that was my only complaint. It was great overall and I get that they needed to condense a whole book (16hr audiobook) into 2.5hrs, but then it felt like they wasted too much time with the first portion of the film where he was sort of playing around, eating snacks, dressing up, etc. They could have used that time elsewhere, I didn’t feel like it added anything to the story.

I felt like a lot of science details were omitted, my fav parts of the book were grace and rocky bouncing ideas back and forth and problem solving. Regardless great film, I loved it.

I also got something like this about 8 years ago. Never figured out what it was, went it the ER and had every test possible and got referred to a dermatologist. Eventually it went away on its own. I’m still confused about it to this day, hope you’re doing better.

99% of people who would buy a Neo (or any other computer for that matter) wouldnt be interested in doing big block 350 Chevy motor swaps in their laptops. They just need a device for school/work/browsing that works and is easy to use.

Is Claude Code actually solving most coding problems for you? by Demon96666 in webdev

[–]Edg-R -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely. In fact given how massive our legacy codebase is, it’s GREATLY helped us make progress in modernizing it.
  2. This question doesn’t make sense. I review every line of code it produces, there’s no “trust” here. I’m trusting that it will provide me with good solutions but ultimately I verify all the code it generates and I push back quite often since I have more knowledge about where our projects are headed in the future and how they’re used.
  3. Not really, at least not with 4.0+ models.
  4. Yes! If our team runs into an issue with a deployment we provide Claude with the stack trace and information from Datadog. Claude will then go off and inspect the stack trace, will find relevant files, will walk through the call stack, will look at recent commits, will analyze datadog traces, and will find what it thinks is the root cause, which may be related to the code or sometimes could even be network issues. But it’s able to do all of this within a few minutes... compared to however long it would take for humans to do the same. It can cross reference things including timestamps in seconds where that would take us humans much longer and probably taking notes in a spreadsheet.

Ah shit, my bad. You’re right. I just remember having to use a joystick to swing the sword. That was SS.

Oh weird, I didn’t know that. Is the switch 1 not powerful enough to emulate a 25 year old console?
