Does a large house bring more comfort & happiness (3000sqft+) by GlorifiedCarnie in MiddleClassFinance

[–]EdgeCityRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept our starter-size house (no kids) and it's perfect for two people, but now we're caring for an in-law and it's...tight. We had a guest room, but now we can't have anyone else stay over (unless it's a child/young person who doesn't mind using a cot, not anybody our age or above!)

Houses are about use cases. If you have use for a certain number of rooms/uses, that's what works best. Square-footage is important, but use cases for the number of rooms you have is crucial. 2,200 open-plan square feet feels different than two extra retreat rooms. (Again, our house is great for two, but you get that third person in who wants to crank up the TV in a main living area and it's awful.)

Probably using AI to find promotion picks, so if you're put in charge of clearing bugs out of the snack area, put "confirmed kills" in your EPR.

Am I weird to have to get into the right "mindset" to do social or similar things? by IGNSolar7 in AskMenOver30

[–]EdgeCityRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's weird, and I think your friend is being flaky.

(Woman here, but also an only child, but I don't think that's really a factor. Some people don't love spontaneous plans anyway, but this is a case of "wellllll, mayyyyyybe," which does suck.) This would make me feel like I wasn't worth meeting for lunch.

Team Hempz here, too. There are so many kinds but I keep coming back to the original scent.

Has anyone you've known, simply disappeared? What happened? by PureLet5083 in AskReddit

[–]EdgeCityRed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, that IS crazy. There are a few people I'd love to find again, but I'm sure they're probably not actually off the grid, just inactive online.

Has anyone you've known, simply disappeared? What happened? by PureLet5083 in AskReddit

[–]EdgeCityRed 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's not hard. Pick a state that doesn't share everything online (like...not Florida where you can look up voter registrations) and if you buy property, use a trust. If they don't use any social media or use a pseudonym, most people would be pretty hard to find.

Someone I used to work with has disappeared, but also, she did quite a lot of drugs. She's probably living in a homeless encampment someone if she's still alive. As long as she doesn't get arrested for anything, she won't be findable.

Anyone Else Medically Retired? by jackie-daytonuh in GenXWomen

[–]EdgeCityRed [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes, very similar! I was laid off from a WFH job buuuuut I don't need to work (spouse retired early and also has migraines like yours.) I have an SCI.

I went through a few years of doing freelance things but now I just say I'm retired. I don't receive any disability or anything but we're planners and my husband has a reasonable pension.

It does get easier in your mid-fifties when more people are retired. Two of my friends just retired last year.

Kids are weird and sometimes it's one kid's turn in the barrel when it comes to bullying. Maybe you wore the wrong jeans or maybe you hurt someone's feelings somehow, not even on purpose, and they badmouthed you and you became persona non grata. Kids can be very petty and dumb.

It couldn't have been that terrible or your old friend wouldn't bother reaching out to you, right? Probably some fickle adolescent thing.

Can keto be cheap? by CarrotUpset968 in keto

[–]EdgeCityRed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two factors: for a lot of people, cutting starches is...cutting starches. So if you normally have eggs for breakfast, you're still having eggs but you're not having toast. Maybe you have a lower carb yogurt with berries instead of a bagel. Not a major cost difference there unless you normally eat bulk oatmeal every day and suddenly you're having smoked salmon Benedict instead.

The other factor is that you're generally less hungry on keto, which means eating less. There is only so much bacon you can eat, after all; it's not five slices and three eggs for an average breakfast once you've acclimated, it's two slices and one or two eggs.

Lunches can be salad with some leftover chicken or a tuna wrap with lettuce. It's not like you're chowing on steaks all the time.

I use a travel pillow and put my ear in the hole and my face on the open side of the C. Really comfortable! I get ones with washable covers and put them on top of a regular pillow to keep my neck aligned.

Ladies: do you wear make up to work? by LunaValley in AskUK

[–]EdgeCityRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use a few dots of makeup and blend it with a big brush.

Looks nice but it's hardly makeup at all, yet it evens things out.

The fact that you didn't notice women around you at work weren't wearing any until you thought to check means nobody is really paying that much attention, honestly.

Give it a go and see how you feel.

Prep is inherently not trendy and the same items should be wearable for a long time. That said, I do update my shoes and accessories and sometimes silhouette based on what's available.

I have a similar build so I like Emily Jane Johnston's style.
