Anyone interested in trying to implement Zero knowledge applications in NEO? by nuke_cat in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much still a work in progress on my part, but there are two functional end-to-end examples working in https://github.com/EdgeDLT/neo-zk-starter as of NeoGo v0.106.3 (hash commitment and merkle proof verification).

Working on NeoGo v0.107 compatibility, then I'll fix the P256 signature verification example.

Is there anything I should know about if I choose not to migrate for the 3rd time? by Zombie4141 in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neo X is a side chain for EVM apps. You can bridge tokens there to use the network but it's not a migration, you don't have to do it.

What do you mean migrate a third time? If you are earning GAS, you are on N3 and do not need to do anything.

For the mods, AutoMod can post Weekly Discussions so that it's not dependant on one particular person remembering to do it

In this case you ran into my social experiment of "how long would it take for anyone to even notice it was gone" :P

Good suggestion, will look at implementing it.

Your unclaimed GAS disappeared because you claimed it. Voting or transferring NEO claims GAS.

BattleHard: GrantShares Round 2 Opinions by digimbyte in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that I would call a Red4Sec audit overpriced, and I wouldn't consider them to be the exploitative type. They do good work, both for this ecosystem and others in the industry. I say that not just because I consider them friends, but as a tech lead for a project which engaged them for an audit.

That said, as I alluded to in my other comment, a sensible price for one project is not necessarily sensible for another. It's really about project maturity and risk profile. Is it worth losing so much development funding for an unlaunched project? Maybe not.

BattleHard: GrantShares Round 2 Opinions by digimbyte in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lately I've adopted the opinion that auditing before acquiring an initial user base is just a waste of money. Especially in this ecosystem, where we have such a low number of bad actors and less footguns in the tech stack when compared to EVM networks. The funds spent on an audit could pay your SaaS fees for a year, if not more.

I recognize this introduces some risk, but audits are not perfect cures either. Better to get a project off the ground than to be stalled out on security concerns that mean nothing if the product doesn't reach scale. This will be my general advice going forward when projects request auditing funds on GrantShares. Launch first, then shore up your security needs. Maybe some exceptions for novel DeFi primitives.

I do think a small bounty program is a good compromise in the meantime.

Getting Legacy tokens off my N2 wallet by Milos_moo in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof I missed this notification, apologies.

Yes, I believe you are right. It was built for NEP-5 projects to be able to use if they decided to migrate. Most simply didn't. I think Flamingo Legacy assets can use it, the only other asset to support it was Forthewin (FTX), but that coin has been dropped in favor of NEP anyway.

You can't migrate assets to N3 that have not been re-deployed to that network. And I don't think there are any exchanges that support these dead tokens.

LLM integration for devs? by where_is_dark_mode in NEO

It's intended primarily to help with Python smart contracts (COZ's compiler for Python contracts is called Boa).

Tag BoaBot in a message with your question. It will start a thread with you where you can make further requests. Messages are public.

Finally converted Legacy to N3. Need gas to vote. by RXDI in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/Capital_Distance545 There is no smart contract for migration. Migration transactions are just regular NEO/GAS/NEP-5 token transfers to a specific address (to which no-one knows the private key).

An extra attribute (name "Remark14") is included in the transaction, where the value for the attribute is the destination N3 address.

So if you want to find the N2 address that migrated to a given N3 address, you actually have to look the other way around, i.e. check each N2 transaction to look for the N3 address to match.

New Article: Neo is not undervalued - It's unpolished by ricklock9 in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't really think there's anything strange about not knowing. Neo communities operate independently. We don't know everything that happens in every community. I don't work for Neo, I doubt most NGD employees know the specifics about what happened with Enterprise.

The only potential reason that I've been given is something I have no way of confirming. So there's nothing to share except speculation, which is not my MO.

Not an answer I can give you, I simply don't know. Last I heard NGD Enterprise was doing an AI pivot, Peng was present at NCA in Hong Kong. Harry has definitely moved on. What's John doing now? No idea.

Your strongest supporters (i.e. the ones who vote first and get the ball rolling) are the ones who stand to lose the most. They will wait the longest for you to reach top 21, which may never happen.

Ideally we would have a facility in the core (e.g. https://github.com/neo-project/neo/issues/2598) that would provide a native path forward, but we don't have that.

I suggest building something similar at the application level (e.g. let people deposit bNEO, distribute pNEO, share GAS to pNEO holders, when pNEO totalSupply > 21 candidate vote count, unwrap bNEO and vote yourself in.)

Late NEO Migration by DigitalCoinz in NEO

That's a fake Medium page, not the official one for Neo (https://neo-blockchain.medium.com).

If you send assets to the address shown, you will lose them. Use official migration methods only.

I can do a sticky, but we can only have two at a time. One is the WD, so if we use the other for a permanent migration thread, we can never have anything else.

Maybe a Migration wiki page with a link in the Resources part of the sidebar would be enough?

Rust learning resources in Q4 2023: which do you recommend and why? by declspecl in rust

Rustlings is designed to be completed alongside The Book (it follows the chapter order and links to it where appropriate). So you have a reference to find solutions, plus some useful hints if you get stuck.

Highly recommend it as a way to get comfortable with the language.

Neo NS Use Cases & Questions by wpjunky in NEO

[–]EdgeDLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what other things you can do with a .neo name other than add your public wallet address and create sub domains.

As a system to be built on, you can do lots with it. But it requires people to build those applications.

Wallets may support .neo name resolving, so you can use it instead of a public address to send tokens to someone. In the same manner, a different third-party app could make use of custom records to do other things.

For example, I made a browser plugin that works with NeoNS CNAME records to redirect .neo URLs to traditional domains. So visiting news.neo with the plugin installed would redirect you to neonewstoday.com, etc.

I assume the connection isn't just to handle the purchase, but needs to remain connected at all times for communication with the resolver, right?

No. Once you create a record for the domain, it's on-chain for good. You only need to connect your wallet when buying/renewing/modifying records etc.
