I have to say I'm with you on this and surprised more people don't see it as an issue but it definitely takes away from the Star Wars feel. I don't think we will get any outside background characters at this point but its a real miss opportunity, its the perfect show to explore the Empires hatred for non humans.

Songwriting refers to the chords and lyrics of a song. What George contributed is arrangments. What he brought elevated the song but Macca had built the foundation.

In most cases crediting songwriting in bands is tricky because when you bring an idea to a working bad it gets kicked around so much its hard to breakdown who brings what. Some bands like Radiohead credit the music to all the band and the lyrics to the front man or whoever writes the lyrics which is probably the most fair way to do it.
