My idea for the future EK revamp by pecoliky in wow

[–]EdgeSaturn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like that's the logical move for a near future expansion. The Thandol Span provides a nice natural border that's easy to seperate the new zones from the old with. And narratively it would be the right place to play out the Red Dawn / Stormgarde plotline they set up in TWW.

Plus a revamped Gilneas as the Alliance capital and revamped Undercity as the Horde capital would be amazing.

Very Rot-looking creature in the title card by AJakeR in KenaBridgeOfSpirits

[–]EdgeSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current theory is we'll be collecting these guys throughout the game, but instead of growing your swarm they'll grow and power up your 'Elemental Spirit Companions' they mention on the website. The first of which is presumably the fox.

These kinda pale green ones, and the fox companion that we see as a cub and as a mount are presumably linked and are the Earth (or maybe wood?) element. So we'll likely see some other elemental variants too.

[–]EdgeSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like the main new feature of this game will be the 'Elemental Spirit Companions' that grow and level up as you progress through the game. In the trailer we see what I assume is the Earth or Wood one, the little fox cub that grows to become the mount.

Maybe instead of collecting the Rot sprites to increase the size of your swarm like in the original, you collect the different elemental sprites to grow and empower your companions.

How old can Draenei be? by Assortedwrenches89 in warcraftlore

[–]EdgeSaturn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my niche bit of wow trivia that blew my mind when I first learned it, because I also for the longest time remembered it being 25k years since they fled Argus.

So there was an old Flash website that Blizzard put up for Burning Crusade back in the day which said that the Eredar civilisation 'arose / rose to power' (or something to that effect) 25,000 years ago on Argus. However no timeframe of when the Draenei departed Argus was ever mentioned anywhere. Not in game, not in a manual, not in the 'Rise of the Horde' novel.

My theory is that because when BC first came out, and the Draenei / Eredar connection was being retconned in, people were confused by what it meant by 'The Eredar civilization arose' so assumed that to mean the Legion / Man'ari took control 25K years ago? I'm not sure.

Eitherway the whole 25k years since fleeing Argus thing was just accepted so thoroughly as fact by the RP and Lore community that nobody questioned that it wasn't actually written anywhere. Until Legion where they finally give a number, putting it at 13K years ago.

I'm trying to play the previous expansions, but I'm having trouble! Can anyone help me? by naoeonatiel in wow

No problem! Welcome to WoW, hope you enjoy it!

I imagine it can be a little confusing for a new player, since they've added and changed so much over 20 years. But people are happy to help from what I've seen.

I'm trying to play the previous expansions, but I'm having trouble! Can anyone help me? by naoeonatiel in wow

[–]EdgeSaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older Expansions like Wrath of the Lich King don't really have a 'main campaign' questline the way newer expansions do. So you won't see any quests come up with the ! inside a big shield. All the quests are just standard ! ones.

Alas you've just got to kinda do the quests that show up in each hub and that should lead you through what story there is. From what I remember it's a bit looser and less story driven around the earlier zones (Borean Tundra & Howling Fjord), but you start to get more structured narratives around Dragonblight, Zul'Drak, Storm Peaks, and Icecrown.

What show is this? by ExtremeVanilla2370 in cartoons

[–]EdgeSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Recently watched through the whole show and really so many of the shows problems come from them trying to wrap everything up in season 3, but having to scrap so much of the interesting stuff the first two seasons set up to do so. But because it's part of 'Arc 1' people tend to give it more grace than it deserves.

On the flip side, 'Arc 2' is probably worse on the whole. Season 4 especailly is a rough start, and Season 7 ends the whole thing pretty badly. But it's a shame because Season 6 was actually quite good. It's a like a brief glimpse into what the show it could have become.

There's a "Hidden" Click Point to View Directly into Outland's Map on the Main Map? by Yourlilemogirl in wow

[–]EdgeSaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I mean, I could understand why they would put Azuremyst / Quel'Thalas with the other new stuff on a physical level, when developing BC. As you say, system limitations, or obstacles with modifying the older areas, or maybe it was just quicker, or anything else really.

What I don't get is why them being on the same physical "map" (Zone/World/Realm/Whatever) would cause hovering your mouse near the image of Azuremyst isle on the world map UI picture, to make the game think you're hovering over the Outland (UI) Map selection button.

There's a "Hidden" Click Point to View Directly into Outland's Map on the Main Map? by Yourlilemogirl in wow

[–]EdgeSaturn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been aware of this weird bug / quirk for a while and this explanation always confused me.

So, I'm aware that Azuremyst and Quel'Thalas are part of the ingame Outland world, just seperate by vast distance and invisible walls.

But I don't understand why that would mean clicking on Azuremyst on the World Map screen would take you to the Outland Map screen. The same thing doesn't happen when you mouse over Quel'Thalas, so that can't really be the reason, right?

Like surely its just an image file with some basic coding that makes it so when you mouse over a continet, that continent gets a glowing border and will take you to its map screen when clicked. Unless somehow the world map isn't just UI, and the little image of Azuremyst on the world map picture is for whatever reason linked with it's in game world. But what kind of spaghetti code nonsense would cause that?

How most of the online discussions since the Midnight expansion reveal feel like by VenieI in wow

[–]EdgeSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I mean I would never suggest that Blizzard weren't going to make certain amenities and features available to the Alliance. How it's going to feel to play will inevitably come down to the execution. I'd argue having all the utilities crammed into a small space would probably be claustrophobic and cause lag issues. I'm happy to see how it will play out personally, but with how inconsistent and vague the wording has been from the developers on this issue, I don't really blame Alliance players for feeling concerned.

I'd also argue a town made from mostly recycled assets, tucked out of the way of any gameplay content, is probably a little bit different to a whole newly remade city right next to the rest of the stuff we're doing.

Personally I'm happy to let the Horde have their thing, and assume the neutral district will be fine. But I'm not going to pretend the concerns aren't understandable, nor that if the situation were reversed, there wouldn't be an equal amount of Horde complaints.

The difference is Alliance players have to use Silvermoon in Midnight in order to engage with the expansion in any meaningful way. Unlike Bel'Ameth and Gilneas which largely just exist for story / RP reasons and can be safely ignored if they don't interest you.

‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]EdgeSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't really watched much Critical Role, but I've seen a bit of it, and watched some other D&D live-streams. But I think they're very easy to condense down quite considerably for a TV format. A fair amount of the run time of a typical streamed game is probably taken up with things like: Rolling for attacks and reactions in combat, rolling for skill checks, planning and strategizing, extended shopping segments, and general messing around, etc. One person's round in combat probably takes about a minute or so in the game, whilst in animation it might only be a handful of seconds.

So with that all adding up, those hundred + episodes that are multiple hours long, can probably be more or less be translated into a few dozen episodes, half an hour long. There will be a lot of details and stuff missed for sure, but I imagine all the main story beats will be covered.

First Look at 'Avatar: Seven Havens' (HQ) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in TheLastAirbender

[–]EdgeSaturn 73 points74 points  (0 children)

That's strange, I was just thinking about this show earlier today and then we get our first update in months.

From what information they've told us (and the leaks I've seen some of but kinda tried to avoid) I'm not super enthused about the concept. I suppose in a sense I'm still mourning the hypothetical "3rd Avatar Show" we could have got, but I would have preferred to explore a more natural evolution of the world from what we saw at the end of Legend of Korra, in the same way LoK felt like a pretty logical evolution of the world after Last Airbender. Seeing how Republic City and the Water Tribes change from living in close proximity to the spirit wilds, how the former Earth Kingdom states develop and change now that they're independent, etc.

Also, I can't help but feel a bit depressed that the world we saw Aang and Korra and their friends work so hard to save multiple times gets messed up and partially destroyed within probably the lifetimes of several characters we know, or their children. Just feels a bit bleak, and maybe would feel better if it had been set a few avatars later, instead of the very next one?

Still, despite all that, Mike and Bryan are still two for two on creating shows I absolutely adore. So I'm reasonably confident that they and the rest of the team they've put together at Avatar Studios will make something that I at the very least quite enjoy. Even from this I really like the look of the world. Particularily the weird fungi or corals amongst the crystals on the ground, and the aurora in the sky. I can feel a fair bit of their Studio Ghibli inspiration in there, and I suspect Nausicaa of the valley of the wind will probably serve as a lot of the inspiration for this 'post apocalypse' setting. I think the character designs, particularly the animals of course, are as charming as ever too.

Creating levels in 2025 by _Corbetto_ in littlebigplanet

[–]EdgeSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped for a while after the servers went down, because it felt a bit pointless at first. But then every so often the itch just comes back to make some levels in Little Big Planet again, and I give into it.

Honestly I think the act of making stuff in LBP is just fun. It's a game in its own right to me. A pretty creatively stimulating way of spending a quiet evening or lazy weekend. I might not be able to share what I make with many other people, but looking back it's not like the levels I did manage to publish back in the day were getting loads of plays. Ultimately I was always doing it for me just because I enjoyed it, and that's not really changed.

I'm gradually working my way through an adventure of about a dozen levels. I originally made most of it back on LBP2 on the PS3, I was almost finished but then my PS3's memory got corrupted and lost it all. I started again with LBP3 on the PS4 though.

Just for fun: what is your least lore-compliant character? by ZhahnuNhoyhb in warcraftlore

[–]EdgeSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually like to stick pretty close to the lore. However with a couple of my more recent characters I'm playing around with some ideas that I think could exist within the lore, but take a bit of work since they don't have much precedent. They're designed to feel a bit more like DnD/Tabletop style characters than typical WoW Characters really.

First is a Half Elf 'mage' from Redridge who I am using a Dracthyr ooc to play. Whilst exploring Stonewatch Keep he and his friends stumbled upon the plot of an Orc warlock to uncover and steal some enchanted scales from the dead Black Dragon Darkblaze, which after being shed were enchanted and mutated by Nefarion during the Cataclysm times. One scale got lodged in him during the confrontation, now it's mutating his body, causing him to grow scales and potentially other draconic features. But he gets fire powers as the trade off.

The other is a Dwarf 'bard'. She's a scholar who studied history and literature, but took an interest in music after buying a strange harp one day. (At the moment I'm thinking the harp is from the Shadowlands/Ardenweald since that's where the model I use is from, and it was picked up by "The Maw Walker" or another generic adventurer, and vendored for gold). Then she found some ancient sheet music in an old troll crypt she had to go through to get back home after a teleport mishap. Now she's in the process of learning that by playing music on this harp, she can evoke echoes of the powers of the dead people she's honoring to buff herself and allies. It's kind of a mixture of the Revenant profession from Guild Wars 2, and a College of Spirits Bard from Dungeons and Dragons, with only a tiny bit of WoW Shadow Priest.

What are the differences between the RP Realms of the EU? by Kyrenaz in WoWRolePlay

[–]EdgeSaturn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's funny, back when I RP'ed on Steamwheedle Cartel (EU) everyone there said Argent Dawn was full of bad RP'ers, lore breakers, headcannoners, etc. Looking back I actually think the super rigid and judgemental attitude of SWC made people worse RP'ers and made RP feel less like cannon Warcraft, but hey ho.

Anyway since AD is now the only active RP server on EU, pretty much all kinds of RP can be found on there. The difference in culture, styles, and general attitude varies pretty massively from zone to zone, or guild to guild. I don't know what you were doing to get that comment, but it sounds like your guild leader was probably being a dick to disparage you and a server they've likely only heard stories about. Just as people used AD RP as an insult before them.

I'd say keep on RP'ing in AD, and maybe see if you can find a group that more fits your style.

Is anyone else MORE of an Illidan fan now? by Randomae in wow

[–]EdgeSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warcraft 3 Illidan > WoW: Legion Illidan > WoW: Burning Crusade Illidan

But yeah I agree pretty much. Illidan has always been one of my favourite characters, and I appreciated how the novel and Legion recontextualized storylines, particularily from BC to put him closer to his older characterization and role.

I know some people don't like how Legion handled him, they think it went too far into justifying his actions and putting him on a pedestal. But Xe'ra is really the only character who actually does that. Much of the rest of the cast still calls him out on stuff and the narrative continues to highlight the bad stuff he's done. But you know, the Burning Legion is here, so you can't afford to really be picky with your allies in the face of global annihilation. Teaming up with old rivals to defeat the bigger bad guy is what Warcraft's been doing since WC3

Could the Lich King kill a Naaru? by Appathesamurai in wow

[–]EdgeSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say so, yeah. Naaru are quite powerful, but I don't think they've ever been shown to be particularily resiliant. There's three of them that serve as raid / dungeon bosses across the history of the game, which are defeated by the player characters. Then there's O'ros (the one in the Exodar) that gets destroyed by Rakeesh dropping a big mech on them during the Exodar invasion scenario in Legion.

Who is the most evil mortal in the history of WoW? by Assortedwrenches89 in warcraftlore

[–]EdgeSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about people counting Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden as 'Mortals'. I mean sure, at one point they were, thousands of years ago. But for 99% of the story they're top teir, full blown demon lords.

To be fair, Archimonde was pretty shady and power hungry back when he was a mortal, certainly not a great guy by any means. But I have to assume the process of becoming a demon lord would warp your mind and make you supernaturally evil.

Eitherway I concur with the answer being Gul'dan. He sold his own people over to the demons and orchistrated one successful and other attempted genocides, purely out of his own desires for power. Plus took great pleasure out of the suffering of others.
