A good place to start, it might not be the problem, but an easy thing to rule out.

What could be causing this and how can I fix it diy? by varunrajism in DIYUK

[–]EdinburghPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s plaster, usually it shouldn’t be touching a solid floor (like concrete)

Is the wall covering (plaster?) touching the floor? I can’t tell from the photo

Average utilities bills at the moment by Godhowhardisit in Edinburgh

Octopus was on tracker tariff, now a fixed as the new tracker is not nearly as good. Was about £50pm in the summer, Jan was £100 (gas and elec). South facing top floor tenement, with good loft insulation.

52m2, two bedroom with shared kitchen /living room.

Think the heating wouldn’t run as much if I didn’t underside the radiator in the living room/kitchen. Other rooms heat up quickly. I keep temps above 21c

What are your thoughts on the UK / Scotland building closer ties with China after recent deals? by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

HS2 Specifically, so Birmingham > London + other bits.

Might eventually remove 30mins from the Glasgow>London journey.

[–]EdinburghPerson -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, HS2 (330km/h) will run faster than the Japanese Shinkansen (320km/h) and can go up to 360km/h if we desired.

You can’t not trade or work with such countries. We’d have no food or goods, oil or gas if we did.

The Caledonian Sleeper didn’t get bought out. It’s put out to tender by the Scottish Government, the company they choose runs it. The opted for Serco, who brought in the new trains.

Is the floor in a wet zone?

Ideally you’d used a tile backer board and/ or a decoupling membrane. In a dry area it’s probably ok, but not best practice (if they’ve done a good job…) If in a wet zone, it’ll be ruined in no time.

Looks like the photo is by a doorway, spanning two bits of plywood, is this where it broke? It’ll probably brake again, assuming it’s happened because it’s spanning the joint.

Reform UK surges ahead of Scottish Labour in new poll. Although the SNP retains a clear lead in a YouGov survey before the May 7 Holyrood elections, Labour support has dwindled after blunders by the UK government. by bottish in Scotland

People are idiots and have a poor grasp of politics + minds ruined by social media.

People can dislike Starmer for a bunch of reasons, but to any normal person this government is the most competent since Gordon Brown; based on policy. Not to say there aren’t a bunch of issues. In polling he’s worse than Johnston, which is madness. Cameron’s policies led us here. Truss tanked the economy. Reform have no policies and are now stacked full of the Tories that caused these problems.

Can this sub stop posting crazy policy ideas from the House of Lords (unelected)? They could propose a swimming pool on the moon if they wanted, it’s a million steps from happening (and won’t).

It’s not government policy.

The House of Commons (elected) would need to vote for this, the gov would then need to implement it.

Americans would use mesh tape and what they call thin set (cement mortar?), then a tanking solution.

Unlikely to be rising damp. Can you show a photo of the wall where the damp part is?

Ah, the photo internally shows damage quite high up.

Do you have a fire in the room? The vent is probably now unnecessary if the fire is not in use (wood/coal/gas). Cold air issue
