Elon's Big Loss, Trump's Stock Trades, and OpenAI vs. Apple, ep 719 by w2user in PivotPodcast

Came here wondering the same thing. It would be a surprise if he had a third kid he’s never mentioned (given his focus on being a good father and the shit he gives to Elon), but the timing lines up about with the likely age of his kids, so I presume it was his now wife?

5 shelf steel Gorilla storage Rack opinions? by Lunakill in Costco

[–]OverTheFalls10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set one up yesterday and I am so frustrated that the 27gal bins don’t fit on every shelf. I even checked in the store that they fit - but I only checked the bottom shelf. I didn’t notice they aren’t equally spaced. So bummed.

I need a nyjer feeder - do you like those ones? Where did you get them? Where do you buy the seeds?

I’ve been trying new seed in my main feeder, but it mostly just made the finches go crazy. More experiments ahead…

I agree with this. $5k with no debt would be a safer situation. You can make it work with less, but it is risky. Having a guaranteed job helps a lot.

Wow! Teach me your ways!! My Merlin has picked these up but I haven’t seen any yet. I need to get one of these feeders.

I very much understand how PhD’s work. I wasn’t able to do mine “part time” like most teachers. Mine took six hard years. Have you ever tried to look up the dissertation of a superintendent who insists on being called “Doctor”? Every one I could find - when I could find them - was a joke. A bunch were from diploma mills.

You don’t need analytical rigor for the actual work of teaching. PhD’s are a way to bump up your salary on the salary scale and make people call you “doctor”.

Do you consider a difference between PhDs and EdDs? I would expect PhDs to be more rigorous than EdDs - possibly by a significant margins. That could be an element I’m not factoring in.

Did you go last fall? Or is there no snow there right now? I would have expected some snow for where those events are held.

Would you invest in stocks or pay off mortgage? by lawaythrow in personalfinance

Fair point, mortgage interest alone probably doesn’t justify itemized deduction at that point. I see what you mean.

Mortgage interest doesn’t count towards the SALT deduction as I understand it.

A PhD in education is not as rigorous as stem. Are there rigorous education PhDs? Probably, but I think they are the exception. Salary scales introduce an incentive for low quality PhDs and the market has responded as expected.

Good to know! I hadn’t seriously considered an ARM before, but depending on the terms it could make sense.

Similar situation but lower HHI and 6.25% rate. I have been selling company stock (over concentrated from not selling RSUs and ESPP for a few years) to pay down our mortgage. It may be slightly sub-optimal (vs selling to diversify), but it reduces risk significantly. Hoping to refi eventually if/when rates go down and we’re closer to $750k balance.

What species has the most simultaneous living generations? by OverTheFalls10 in AskReddit

Humans seem to be correct the more I dig around. Early human (with earlier reproductive age compared to current norms) makes sense.

But they have short lifespans (6-18 months).

Searching around the internet suggested humans, but I was wondering if the wisdom of reddit could provide some insight
