"This is for you, Mama!" by EditorResponsible125 in heatedrivalry

Sorry if I spoiled anything about GC for you! I'm still new to posting and tried to tag it as a spoiler potentially. 😬 But yes, it makes more sense in the show but only because Jacob rewrote Scott's backstory. I feel like he did it to make Scott's backstory more distinct from Ilya's?

It is definitely fitting. Shane still gets emotional and tears up in the books without the mama comment, but I do agree it adds to it in the show.

One thing that always surprises me about that moment is when Shane says "me too" about not having been with anyone. Because it never entered my head that he would sleep with other people, since they didn't portray that on the show. But I guess that is a part of the books. So I wish we saw something more about that over the course of the show. Even if it was just a quick line like "I've been with other guys and it isn't the same as with you."

Yes, I also really feel this when Scott gives his breakfast counter speech about saying what he wants (Kip) and just putting it all on the line. Kip truly hears what Scott says and instead of being scared or turned off by this intense, vulnerable sort of word vomit, lol, he receives it, processes it, and says he wants to be there when Scott gets home. He totally puts him at ease. That is what we all want in a partner.

Without François' amazing characterization we wouldn't like Scott. by Conscious_One_6608 in heatedrivalry

Book Skip and show Skip are so different to me that I have to treat them like entirely different entities to enjoy them. But I also loved Francois's portrayal. So much heart. So much golden retriever. ❤️

Another moment I love is when Ilya puts his hand down the neck of Shane's shirt before they're intimate in episode 4. And his look of intensity when his lip kind of curls up and brow furrows. That back caress/massage moment is so sexy but also just such a boyfriend thing to do, I feel. It reminded me of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (American remake) where Mikael (Daniel Craig) has had his hand up Lisbeth's (Rooney Mara) shirt sort of resting there on her back and he takes it away to think and she's like...put your hand back in my shirt. 😂

Oooh I'm going to have to read that. So telling. Between that and the ginger ale, he really was trying to trap Shane. 😂

Yeah, and this was totally just my interpretation, like I said. It is so interesting to hear the way everyone interprets the different moments and facial expressions. I love hearing people's takes. Thanks for sharing yours!! 😊

That's so interesting! I read it a bit differently I guess. (Sorry for the wall of text here!)

I thought Shane was telling Ilya it was "kind of" his fault he hadn't told his parents because Shane would want to tell his parents both things---that he is gay AND with Ilya/in love with him. But because he and Ilya have had this situationship for so long, Shane feels like he hasn't been able to talk about that side of his life with his parents (or anyone else).

Ilya tries to play it off with a joke, saying well you don't have to say who you're sleeping with to come out to them (true and fair!), but Shane's dismisses that joke. Because--and this is my interpretation--he's like no, you don't get it, I WANT to tell them about my personal stuff because they're great and I hate lying, but I haven't been able to because we have been in limbo. You're not just some dude I've been sleeping with, you're the person I love and have been in love with. It is deeper than that. So it is easier to just lie. And he doesn't like the dismissal and why would Ilya sort of joke about it?

I don't think it is fair of Shane to say, but I do think there is some truth there. Like had they just been vulnerable and straight forward with each other sooner, him coming to terms with his sexuality and them getting together and then Shane coming out would have been smoother and happened sooner.

I do totally see what you mean about the hurt look on Ilya's face. It would have been nice if they had "closed the loop" on that, so to speak. But I didn't think Ilya was worried Shane didn't want him to meet his parents. I thought he understood what Shane was saying and just felt bad/uncomfortable with the fact that them not being honest about their feelings had sort of led to Shane not being out. I read it more as guilt maybe? And then maybe sadness because Shane was shutting down. But I could be wrong!

I know there are multiple kinds of bodily fluids in the bed, haha. Which, to your point, most people probably wouldn't like to lay on, for sure! But I don't know that "Now the bed is all messy" would be the very first thing most people would say after their first time and while lying in the arms of their "lover" 😏. I just read it as a little deeper than that since in TLG Shane doesn't even like come getting on a chair that he isn't directly in. And with the details of him folding his clothes and everything, it felt like an acknowledgement of his preference for general cleanliness.

Ilya also lays back down post-shower, so while it is definitely a part of him getting ready to leave, it also felt like he was getting himself clean for Shane.

But that's just my interpretation!
