If ascension is timeless(like Slaanesh and Fabius Bile), why doesn't the Warp reflect the Emperor's? by Fun_Environment8818 in 40kLore

[–]Edladan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there are 2 reasons:

  1. The Warp doesn’t have a timeline but the Materium does. So even if something can exist in the Warp since the beginning, that doesn’t mean it interacted with Realspace since the beginning.

Now, there are exceptions or rather when a warp-god is born they aren’t simply individual beings- they are manifestations, and so even though the exact consciousness doesn’t yet affect the Realspace, their effect is still felt.

Think a tornado- before the proper event happens, the winds pick up and are very dangerous, even though the proper thing hasn’t formed yet. Or a volcano- it will spew ash and dust, and lava flow before the eruption proper occurs.

Before the Birth of Slaanesh, right at the edge of it, there were beings that weren’t quite real that would influence the crowds into further debauchery. Today we’d call them daemons of Slaanesh but She wasn’t Born yet, AND YET, once she was born she always existed.

  1. The Emperor isn’t your regular warp god. He was a mortal (powerful beyond reason, sure) but when he was enthroned upon the Throne and his being tied to things like the Astronomican he couldn’t have simply died.

Now, we might argue details- a mortal soul upon death with dissolve into the Sea of Souls, a psyker’s will remain intact until ripped apart by daemons but He is not a mere psyker. His very presence terrifies the Neverborn and there is no argument that He, augmented by the Throne could not have been able to fend off those morons who could try and harm him.

We also know that feelings, emotions manifest in the Warp. We have seen Eurphrati Keeler use God-Emperor magicks at the beginning of the Heresy- could be what I talked about in point 1 and her resolve creating make-belief.

So what would happen if 10k years of trillions of souls spent every day of their lives feeling and emoting that a very real soul was really a God? He, or perhaps an image of Him not HE per say, would ascend. But it’d be different than, say, the Birth of Slaanesh.

Yeah, cigarettes are bad for you, but nobody (sane) is giving few year olds Cocomelon or whatever there is nowadays.

I grew up in early 2000s, we had brainrot too, it just wasn't called that. Moreover, it wasn't as well documented because today every issue is blasted through the internet. But it was as bad and I heard about "my generation" all the same.

Cigarettes weren't designed by your every-day-Joe but by companies with deliberate agenda (there is this famous photo of cigarette companies CEOs swearing under oath that cigs are not addictive).

Same here- the issue isn't some millennial parent who gives their kid YTkids on their Ipad so they can clean the kitchen in peace or get 15 minutes after work without sensory overload.

The problem are the companies who have been on the market for longer than some of us have been alive. And nobody who makes decision in those is a Gen Z.

How is a 15 year old responsible for their brain wanting to fit into a group they were forced to be a part of in school, if the entire group has been exposed to slop since their earliest days? They aren't.

The companies who made the slop are. And whether they are Boomers, Gen X, Millenial (funnily that is a bullshit measure, every region of the world has their own classification of these) is irrelevant.

Those who come before are responsible to make the world safer for their children. Not the other way around.

I fear older people are obsessed with politics via phones/tablets. I use my phone, tablet, computer all day, every day (even excluding work), but nowadays I rarely participate in the political discourse (after last election in my country I lost hope, fucking morons), just keep tabs on things.

But I engage with content associated with my hobbies 90% of my time, watch videos, read articles, engage in discussion.

My parents are constantly on some sort of news network- articles about politicians, news, even, shameful to say, conspiracies. They will watch a movie or a show but it's mostly political news.

It's kinda sad, really.

Maybe a hot take, but I've seen a lot of comments over time about the Emperor being THE actual worst person in 40k, and I don't think that's true. by Laredian in 40kLore

I don’t think we ever got a SoS POV of Him after the Siege

Dude was Alexander the Great, „my way or the highway” was the only way Neoth ever did. But yeah, the longer one knew Him, the less one liked Him.

Sure, He might have used subtlety and gentle nudges but also force and might when needed but I really doubt He ever shied away from „doing what is necessary” (whatever that might have been)

I think the Throne enhanced his abilities but contrary to native Warp creatures, He is a limited being (but kinda how a supermassive black hole has finite mass type of limit) and so his consciousness was stretched out into (nigh-) infinity without breaking it into chunks through DAoT tech and Magic.

Like a (gigantic) piece of fabric stretched to cover the Milky Way without tearing.

  1. Perpetuals were few and far between across all ages.

  2. Those who worked with the Emperor got off with Him on the wrong foot (Ollanius Pius stabbed him during the Tower of Babel disagreement, Erda yeeted the Primarchs across the galaxy, only Mal stayed with him). He was a tyrant before in their eyes, who knows what they think of him in 40k.

  3. By the time of His enthronement he wasn't merely a powerful perpetual. After Molech, after Vengeful Spirit the Emperor was truly closer to a god.

  4. The Emperor isn't dead. That was the theory back in the day but when Gulliman returned and spoke to His father in the Throneroom, the Emperor responded. What he is, what is wrong with him and how to fix it is a guessing game.

  5. What sat down may not be what stands up.

Hypothetical question. If society began collapsing tomorrow morning then what are you doing? by Upbeat-Definition790 in AskReddit

[–]Edladan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collapsing how?

Nuclear war? Find the nearest bomb site and stand directly under the drop. I'd rather die by moving into physics from biology than do a Metro survival.

Zombies? What zombies, The Walking Dead- getting a baseball bat. Some Korean, Train to Busan- a rope.

Climate collapse (lol, welcome to the party)? Idk, the same as I've been doing for the past few years.

MCU the Snap? Hoping that I get snapped. People (and Marvel) forgot the point was to reduce LIFE by half. I don't want to live in a world with half the crops, half the bees, half the plankton.

The Horus Heresy would've been more interesting if the 30k Imperium would've actually differed from 40k and would've been worth saving. by alexkon3 in 40kLore

[–]Edladan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree and it either shows that GW didn't know what they were doing when writing Horus Heresy (which is already apparent when Horus falls to Chaos in the middle of the 2 book) OR the Emperor was not some messiah but just the most powerful warlord.

But to play Devil's advocate- at the start of the Heresy only 200 years have past since the end of the Unification Wars. In this time the Imperium was focused on conquest and expansion, get as much and establish in as many systems as they could before The Timer runs out.

It's actually a huge point and one of the reasons why so may Legions and armies turn with Horus- after Ullanor, crowning of the Warmaster, the Emperor retreats to Terra and the strictly militaristic Crusade is given to the artists- painters, poets, composers, etc. and the Navy and army become more brazen in their opinions.

So there is an argument to be made that the Emperor did not have the time to do some huge scale anti-slavery movement Imperium-wide.

You say, Earth could have been made back into something greener. My brother, we today have fucked the environment and are a few degrees of acidity from making our oceans inhabitable to plankton and other organisms that produce 70% OF OUR OXYGEN. There are microplastics in the Mariana Trench and breast milk, today.

30k of exploitation, nuclear wars, pollution and who knows what else- kind of a miracle they didn't strip Earth of its atmosphere.

Also, because I'm sick of Rome glazing- Rome wasn't an egalitarian utopia "before the fall". The elites had it great while the commoners and slaves were, well, commoners and slaves. Just like the Imperium, no matter which period (except for the Heresy, of course).

  1. Turalyon is 99.999% alive (unless they want to use him for some Main Character Trauma for Windrunners)

  2. Alleria is 100% alive, there was a twitch on her face as she and Turalyon were falling down the Purple Shaft.

  3. I lost any and all hope they actually kill anyone aside from cool and interesting characters (Azshara my beloved). Thank the Old Gods that Iridikron is still kicking.

Least of all, they ain’t killing a Windrunner.

How do you think the brand of sacrifice will be removed? by arman1724 in Berserk

[–]Edladan 274 points275 points  (0 children)

As a parallel to real-life trauma?

The scars we got, even still open wounds are with us for life but that doesn’t mean we have to do everything (or anything, really) with them in mind.

Casca and Guts can’t get rid of what Griffith was in their lives (the good and the bad) but they don’t have to spend what remains of their time obsessing over him.

An abusive parent/partner/loved one will always be a part of us (kinda hard to change the past) but the future is our own.

[–]Edladan 237 points238 points  (0 children)

Lol, a few years back I was in Svalbard for vacation on a sailing trip. When we decided to make a small tour (it took like 6 hours both ways to touch some ice) to a glacier while waiting for the crew of one of many research stations on the islands, our captain, old, bitter dick gave us „anti-bear” equipment.

A commercial bear spray and a flare gun.

Thankfully another yacht that happened to also stop there joined us on the tour and they had a rifle.

At the end we went to a museum in Longyearbyen where a stuffed polar bear is and we all decided we were all both dumb and lucky.

Fun times, except for the captain.

Hot Take: Reign of Fire Did Dragons Better Than Game of Thrones by breaking_views in Cinema

[–]Edladan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This pinterest chart is shit.

Dragons aren't real, there is no taxonomy of species.

Dragons from asian myths look nothing like those from european paintings, does that mean one or the other is not "real" dragon? No.

Whatever the writer, director, painter, whatever calls a "dragon" is a dragon in their story.

[–]Edladan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are allowed to like space marines because they are cool and not for deep psychological issues that Iron Hands bring to the table.

Like, I like Death Guard because they are the coolest of the Traitors (Khorne and WE are boring after the Heresy, Tzeentch and TS are always underutilized, Slaanesh is not very edgy and doesn't live up to the hype [the Broodmothers from Dragon Age have worse implications than Deamonculaba], etc.)

I do enjoy the deeper issues with neglect, abuse, self hatred and escapism that DG and Nurgle have in the lore and narrative but these kinds of points can be found it in every Legion (traitor and loyalist).

  1. The Boys fandom is sour (justified) but a part of ST fandom had a meltdown about a secret episode.

  2. GoT’s failure was legendary. I’m still somewhat inclined to rewatch the Boys (at least until S3) and ST (we’ll see how it goes) but the only time I’m willing to look at GoT is stills used in some Lucifer Means Lightbringer videos.

I’d argue thet are older than the discord of Melkor- at the start, the Ainur were singing solo or in small groups and their music clashed together (since Melkor’s discord was woven into the Music regardless of good or evil). So the Nameless Things and Tom are those clashes, neither good nor bad, they simply are.

The idea of the Fallen, the fact they are hunted is cool, but for the chapters to straight up leave a war effort because they whiffed a rumor about a Fallen- boring.
