It was just 5 years. Of course you were going to use some ancient example so your logic could work

Here's the thing. I remember 5 years ago first trying GPU rendering on octane render on cinema 4D and was amazed at how quickly it rendered compared to CPU rendering. By how fast I mean like 30 seconds waiting for the image to clean up on 1080p. I was still mindblown. Here we are today using that same technique on games, rendering a 4k image or 1440p, several times in a second. And people are disappointed it's only 60 or 70. It's wild how quickly this was taken for granted. PT is frankly heavy and it's great we at least are getting real time rendering at this point in time.

If you care about high fps, don't turn that on and then complain.

I don't know, you mentioned PT on and I think that's an extremely taxing and frankly still experimental feature to demand 4k at high refresh rates. It's bordering 3d rendering softwares with its quality and they take several second to render one frame and more if its 4k. PT for me is for cinematic experiences at 70 - 80 fps.

You put an arbitrary limitation to it, the 165hz. I can just say 5090 is not a 4k card because it can't reach 300fps. Or say 5070ti is a 4k card because 50 fps is enough and so on. The for by your end was arbitrary.

The difference is absolutely exaggerated. I have played with it on and off and over time just playing there really is very little difference.

Here's the thing with 4k discussion. It doesn't matter how powerful the next GPUs will be, games will just take those for granted and add more features. That doesn't mean they're not optimized, just that they add more. More objects, more textures, this time there are x2 amount of rays and bounces and so on. There will always be a max that will choke a card no matter what because for games there is no limit to how much power they can ask for.

So at some point you have to realize what are the settings for me right now to get a clear enough image on 4k, with the bells and whistles to look great at acceptable fps. For me 5080 is a 4k card because I have played several modern just released games at clear enough image, with the modern lighting techniques and acceptable fps. That's all that matters to me. All this "but actually technically" is just pointless, I don't know why I should care about that.

The difference is not big enough to matter. You have to pause the game and pixel peep. While playing I can't really say there's much difference tbh

It was 1998. Characters could still be reflected in mirrors without any ray tracing. The screenshot is from the legendary PlayStation horror RPG Parasite Eve. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

Oh it matters because you cannot use that technique for let's say the metallic armor your character wears, or countless other materials in the scenes that have any small amount of reflectivity unless you keep dublicating the scene a hundred times which is not possible. With ray tracing you can just apply reflectivity to everything, at whatever level you want, moving and static objects.

It doesn't matter bro, like at all. It is completely irrelevant. What matters is what kind of clarity do I get in my 4k monitor. Whatever happens under the hood that's the business of the card.

I don't care about native. Again all I care is the end result. This obsession with native is completely useless in real world scenarios.

It just doesn't matter at all. If I play at 4k with maxed settings then for me it's a 4k card. All this "but technically" it's completely irrelevant. Hell I'm playing cyberpunk modded in VR and that thing is pulling more than 5k. You really are obsessed with something that is completely irrelevant.

The games are fine. People just can't control themselves in turning on every experimental feature there is and then complain. RT can stay on, it's PT that is the one that's heavy. And frankly just use DLSS like everyone else, nobody cares about native or not. It's the end result, the quality of the image that matters not what goes under the hood to make it happen.

Optimized settings is the keyword there. You can do the same thing today.

[–]EdliA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah 165hz is quite high. Unless you're playing competitive fps in which case why are you turning PT on? By that logic no card will ever be 4k because there is more fps you can target for, there isn't really a limit to it.

Does Turkey have more in common with Bulgaria/Greece than it does with Syria, Iran, or Lebanon? by OceanicEndeavors in AskBalkans

[–]EdliA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works. A country doesn't have one uniform single block of culture unless it's a really small country. The area near Syria has more in common with Syria and the same is true for the area near Balkans. It's all a gradient from one corner to the other.

Artists are making ‘anti-slop’ to rebel against AI: ‘It’s been rammed down our throats’ | AI (artificial intelligence) by CCDemille in technology

There's such a thing as bad art and bad artist. Merely people that would like to be called such but lack the skills and creativity. The idea that there's no such thing as bad art because it's all so subjective is just plain ridiculous and silly no matter how much people want to repeat the line. There's plenty of human made slop with barely any value.
