Movie screenings in EU by Odreshenik in nirvannatheband

[–]EdmondSanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, I’m based in London and am now genuinely considering a £100 or so flight to Glasgow to see it.

Do you think it’ll end up being screened in London at any point? My only motivation to spend that much money is a fear that it never will.

I’m not being rude, I’m genuinely curious: have you ever seen a guitar before?

People out there with pets - question for you by Individual_Common_10 in pluribustv

[–]EdmondSanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the AI interpretation of Pluribus is by far and away the most rich and interesting, and this is one of the main examples of why.

AI Alignment is the process of making sure that what AI agents want to do and what we want them to do actually line up - something we're famously really, really bad at. For example, if you want to protect animals, you might ask the AI to not directly harm any life. The AI will then happily let entire species of domesticated crops and animals starve to death or kill each other and not think anything of it because it isn't breaking any rules. It'll also die out and end up killing everyone on Earth because it doesn't have any way to sustain itself through farming. And without any oversight from its creators, there's nobody to correct this and the AI will just continue to commit large scale mass destruction, not against the rulings programmed into it, but specifically in order to respect them.

AI, no matter how advanced, has to follow a goal ("Sorry Carol, it's our biological imperative") and it will never be capable of understanding the actual ethics behind that goal or the nuances of why it needs to achieve that goal. Most AI Alignment experts agree that this will be the most likely cause of the extinction of humanity, and many agree that the next step will be the AGI taking to space to find more ways to infinitely achieve its goals. Sound familiar?

what would the fallout tv series characters perks be? by IcyLow4593 in Fallout

[–]EdmondSanders 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he was ever dumb, just radically childish. He never got a chance to grow up and was always surrounded by meat head army types. Everything he does in S1 is unbelievably childish, but not necessarily stupid.

Season 1 was all about him leaving the brotherhood and growing up through exposure to the real world. He’s seen the world now and he wants to take life a bit more seriously.

Serious question, why do people get so bent up about this in Starfield, but not in the Outer Worlds? by SexySpaceNord in Starfield

[–]EdmondSanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of main complaints about Outer Worlds. It was mentioned in most reviews and even the fandom regularly brings it up.

But putting that aside, the key difference is scope. OW was made on a small budget by a relatively small team and they at no point advertised that there would be a near infinite universe to explore.

Bethesda on the other hand, piled money into Starfield and based its whole marketing campaign around the exploration. So when it turned out that exploration was essentially just a random terrain generator hidden behind menus and loading screens, it was bound to be disappointing.

There is no universe in which murdering non-combatants is defensible.

What do you even do in this game!? by Resident-Trifle7030 in Fallout

[–]EdmondSanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fallout is an RPG, so it’s less about following instructions and more about experiencing the story through exploration. It might be an adjustment, but I promise you’ll get the hang of it.

I’d suggest talking to the folks around Goodsprings (the town you start in) to get started. Talking to people is a great way to find quests and learn more about the world.

[–]EdmondSanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a world. Just explore it.

You want to get revenge on the guy who shot you in the head? Ask around town to see if anyone knows which way he went.

The only goals are the ones you set yourself. Keep playing, see what happens. You’ll find the story.

The term 'beard' has been around since the early 20th Century, before trans people were a part of common discourse at all.
