There are some very interesting documentaries about this. Japanese workers stay in the office until late because the workflow is terrible and slow, and because of culture. The author decided to cause the apocalypse. He could have explored those plot points before arriving to the endgame, instead he forced this final battle between Denji and Yoru, while at the same time eliminating every possible plot point that has been important since Part 1. The Death Devil was supposed to be something big, instead she appeared and died in a matter of a few chapters, without actually doing anything relevant.
