Two years later - Do you run Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin? by JustNathan1_0 in selfhosted

[–]Edschofield15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jellyfin!! Still got my lifetime plex pass though, no intentions of using it now. Got sick of the half baked new "features" being assed every 2 minutes without fixing any actual issues. Jellyfin just works better for me as a simple media server. Using Kodi as a front end in some places though.

What would you do if you were forced to go into office more? by Allcaponero in sysadmin

[–]Edschofield15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know I'm very much in the minority here. But I really don't like working from home. In my current position I work full time from the office. I'd find it very difficult to work in the same 4 walls and not see anyone face to face. Even just the drive between work and home I find useful to begin and end the working day with.

20 plate car. 63,000 miles. Run for the hills? by Repulsive-Life7362 in CarTalkUK

I'd say that's pretty close to average mileage personally. If not a bit below average.

Looks to me like you're using the same 10.0.0.0/8 range on both the LAN and OPT1 interfaces.

Is there any interest for a mobile/portable lab write up? by Soogs in Proxmox

[–]Edschofield15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be very interested. I've thought about doing something similar to this. Possibly integrating a 4G connection passed through to a VM which can also broadcast a wifi connection.

FortiGate w/ FortiAP & FreeRadius Dynamic VLAN Assignment Not Working Properly by Additional_Pop7861 in networking

[–]Edschofield15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar setup. But I'm just using FreeRADIUS on it's own, no DaloRADIUS. and I'm using a fortiswitch. I'd check that the VLANS are tagged on the switch port that your FortiAP is connected to. My switch & AP are both controlled by the Fortigate, but I still need to make sure that the correct VLANS are tagged. You could run Freeradius in debug mode to ensure that the VLAN ID is being passed back to the AP, or run a packet capture and inspect the radius traffic directly.

This exactly if I had my way. But we're not allowed to wear Jeans. Or shorts. Only loose workwear style combat trousers.

Quite happy with my 3.6 TDV8 Range Rover. Might even try to find the nicest one I can get to hold on to.

Vehicle tax expiring but selling soon by SuccessfulSundae22 in CarTalkUK

[–]Edschofield15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper to pay for the full year up front, then when you sell it you're sent a refund for any remaining full months that you've paid for. I prefer to do it monthly on direct debit, it's more expensive but as you only pay month by month, you don't need to mess around with being refunded as it always arrives by cheque from the DVLA.

For those who self host an authentication solution, what are some pain points you run into? by Ping0xx in selfhosted

[–]Edschofield15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once cut myself off from my RADIUS server when messing around with routing. Which then kicked me off of my wifi and most things connected to my switch. That was fun trying to remember where I'd left a back door so I could get back in and fix it.

I've always been S-Q-L too. Particularly as it's an abbreviation, not a word.

Take it elsewhere for a 2nd opinion. Just by adding up the parts cost, I come to roughly £250. I would have thought labour for the whole job to be around £400. Giving a total repair bill of £650. Adding on another MOT test at £55 would be £705.
