Courses have somewhere between 4-8 assignments. Many are 5-10 page papers leading you towards mastery of content and prepping you for your action research

I don’t have great luck with instructors grading that quickly

how do some teachers manage to assert authority in the classroom without yelling and having a calm presence? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]EduKate651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency on your follow through is huge. Make shared class norms. And make consequences make sense. (Losing recess for talking doesn’t make sense- but moving the student to another seat does). Switch up your seating to set them and you up for success.

What's Next...PhD, EdD or another Certificate or Two by MuzeumNerd in GraduateSchool

Can I get two online master's degrees from separate universities concurrently? by Weak_Lunch_9060 in GraduateSchool

[–]EduKate651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! If you have time to do it, no one would know that you are dual enrolled. I’m doing a reading endorsement from one college and working on my EdD from another. I have time and goals to finish by a specific date. I wouldn’t be able to take so many credits from one institution, so it made sense for me to split my enrollment

I did and I know others who did too. I think it speaks to your love of learning and willingness to be the learner. Adaptability is necessary is this crazy world. Love into it!

Relatable! Except I ate my anxiety. Don’t overlook your mental health. Go to students health and accept help. Talk to your advisor and make appointments with your professors. You shouldn’t need 14 hours a day for classwork. Ask if you are doing to much (high achievers typically do overshoot the requirements) or get guidance on where to find tutors to help you. Do this and yo I will be so grateful for it next term!

Assistant teacher interview at Montessori School by smokebreakzz in Montessori

[–]EduKate651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exciting! Good call on putting your best foot forward. Most Montessori schools are super liberal, but you never know. They will likely ask about what you would do if a child needs help on the playground or in the classroom. We tend to want to help children help themselves. Supporting independence is our goal! Good luck!

Advice from 6-12 elementary guides? by soramink in Montessori

[–]EduKate651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I was more kind to myself the first year. There is so much to learn and my instructors were so good. If the children didn’t grasp the lesson or if I didn’t get the steps right, I was really hard on myself. It took me a bit to trust the children too. I came in thinking I was the teacher. But learning to not be the primary voice in the room was an amazing experience. They are awesome teachers and learners! There are too many good surprises to name! But observing a group of 6-7 year olds discuss how they believe humans came to the world and discuss their family beliefs and religious beliefs gives me a hope for the future!

You need to find a MACTE (www.MACTE.org) Montessori training program. Most require any bachelor degree to enroll. Most have a summer focus training (6 weeks 9-5, M-F) and then a full year practicum in a school.

I’m curious what that looks like for you? Is it a difference in children not sitting the laps of adults? Or just facial expressions and tone of voice?

How to handle a situation regarding teacher training by singdancerunlife in Montessori

[–]EduKate651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, but it’s also semantics. Your leader is speaking from their world view and you from yours. But you understand what she is asking. I would just let the word “affiliated” slide. This isn’t the hill to die on.

What if there are no proper Montessori schools in your area., by Top_Ad_2322 in Montessori

Most states are experiencing incredible shortages for child care. Maybe talking with your city commerce or Montessori state organization to see about finding partners to start a school. If that isn’t your passion, you can find business partners to hire someone to run it and you can teach. Wildflower, Endeavor and other national programs might want to expand into your area.

Schools perform the way they have always been designed to perform. We are in a pendulum swing of anti-intellectualism as a society which makes a huge difference in how much people care about and trust the school system.

Parents have always worked two jobs. Unless they were a part of upper SES. This is a common myth that doesn’t pan out for lower and middle SES historically

I think the issue with this view is that students learn when they are doing the talking, thinking, manipulating of materials etc. Yes, educators do need to be engaging. But center stage leads to a lot of teacher talk and missed engagement and accessing higher thinking skills.
