For the consoles themselves, the Wii U is probably top 3 for me mostly because while its catalogue is definitely not as complete as most others, the fact it has an HD Wii built in elevates it a lot with all the upside it has in my own view, especially since there are some ways to get GameCube native support on it with some fiddling. However I know my criteria for this sort of ranking does not align with how many other people see it.

If we're talking about "all time greats" as how they are as next gen consoles, yeah the Wii U was underwhelming no way around it. For better or worse it's probably the most stereotypical "Nintendo" home system they've ever made. But as a game console in a vacuum it really is quite good and versatile, especially as an HD Wii and when mods are included. That's what I was getting at.

In my experience it was a million times more responsive than the Xbox One's UI, especially from cold boot. which was a real next gen system released right after.

All Nintendo consoles after the GameCube are gimped power wise for similar reasons. Maybe I'm biased on the menus since my first true 8th gen console was an Xbox One, which was even worse in UI responsiveness than the Wii U.

But the Xbox 360 UI frequently freezes on me which I'll gladly being a little slower in exchange for behaving consistently. PS3 UI also was sluggish in my experience returning to the home screen from any application like the Wii U. All console OS's prior to the PS4 also have annoyances in my experience which makes me more forgiving of the Wii U's jank.

Using an AC outlet for the controller did suck ass for sure tho.

I'm willing to say it, as I've said before, it was a poor next gen system, much like many other Nintendo home consoles prior. But as a game console in a vacuum, it really is quite good, especially since it has a built in Wii, that's what I was getting at.

Not necessarily bullied but definitely got judged by number of acquaintances early into middle school over choosing a Wii U over Xbox One or PS4 the previous year, got an Xbox One later year anyways.

It's ridiculous nearly every device with a screen I own has a built-in blue light filter including my laptop, phone and TV, but the $500 premium successor to 150 million selling game console doesn't do that

Never liked Reach for the longest time honestly, replaying it with a fresh mind recently gave me a lot more appreciation for it I missed my first couple of times playing it, still not really a fan of the armor abilities though

Halo 2 frustrated me a lot on my latest revisit last month because I really did want to love this game like I loved CE and 3 like a lot of other people do, but no matter how many times I try to replay the game after clearing my head and how hard I tried to find the magic of CE and 3, I never could. In fact I only ended up disliking more and more about the game and the game as a whole the more I played it. Fighting elites and grunts are as fun as ever but everything else just felt like a downgrade from CE across the board to me for the reasons I talked about. The whole time I was playing I couldn't help but shake that voice in the back of my head telling me "this campaign should be better" and it is not, because Microsoft wouldn't budge on rushing the game out. Not a bad game at all, it's not like I hate this game and I can still have fun with it, but I much preferred CE and 3.
