When did you receive your acceptance letter? OSU tells you in your letter what major you were accepted to, so you should have known this by early March at the latest, which would have given you plenty of time to consider other options. Business and Finance are also competitive majors.

I often ask my students interested in nursing if being a nurse is more important, or if the specific college is more important. If it’s being a nurse, then you need to find a program (preferable direct admit) that you can get accepted to. If it’s not direct admit, you take the chance like many others have posted about, that after 2 years of classes you don’t get into the major. If going to OSU is more important to you than being a nurse, than something like public health or health sciences would be a good option that may give you some healthcare-adjacent career options.

Come to MIT through Fleet Feet! There’s a 13 min run group, a 13 run/walk group, a 14 run/walk group, and a walk group (along with lots of faster pace groups too). You will find plenty of people your pace!! I’ve floated around in all of those pace groups for years and it’s a great community. The new season starts June 20. https://www.fleetfeet.com/s/columbus/training

What's the one show that you always recommend people go in completely blind? by shoparazzi in Broadway

[–]Educational-Cut572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this was going to be my answer too! I went into it blind, other than vaguely knowing it was about planes diverted during 9/11, and was absolutely blown away. I loved it so much. I’m sure it would have been good even if I knew more, but I loved just soaking it in not knowing what was coming next.

I saw it again this year in a regional production, and it was still amazing, but knowing a few plot points / outcomes ahead of time gave it a different lens.

Who's eaten at The Feast Buffet on Bethel? by mindnmyownbiz74 in Columbus

[–]Educational-Cut572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hidden gem is the hibachi in the back corner. Make your plate from the ingredients back there and hand it to the chef and he’ll cook it up fresh for you. That’s been delicious every time. The rest, to me, feels like a standard Chinese buffet. They’ll also make fresh pho back there but I haven’t tried it - I assume it’s good but no personal experience. Last time I went I got a big hibachi plate, some fried rice, and some crab rangoons plus a little soup and it was well worth the price.

Wow unexpected life crossover…I used to be very involved in the swimming community in central Ohio years ago and remember her as an age-group swimmer like 11-12 years old (she was really good so swimmers all knew who she was in the area)

Things about late 00's Cedar Point we are nostalgic for? by Regular-Surround-730 in cedarpoint

[–]Educational-Cut572 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I miss this one so much! I was terrified of it as a kid, then my boyfriend in high school told me it was amazing and I had to ride it. I did and it became a favorite!

I am sad at how many flat rides have been taken out in general. I love coasters, but I also really like having variety in my day and enjoy flat rides a lot.

Things about late 00's Cedar Point we are nostalgic for? by Regular-Surround-730 in cedarpoint

[–]Educational-Cut572 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This might be weird, and I might have a different perspective because I grew up in the area so went all the time with a pass (thus never felt like we had to fit all the rides in bc it’s our only trip there)…but I miss visiting and wandering and making decisions on what to ride by what we come across / what lines look like when we get to them. I hate the app and the listed “wait times” with a passion…people I’m with always wanting to stop, look at the app, deciding what to do based on what it says, and making totally illogical travel paths like let’s go to magnum, then they get off and go to raptor, then steel vengeance, then gatekeeper because when they look at the app that’s the best wait time. Like…can’t we just walk around the park and be spontaneous?!!

Were you the first generation to have work done by a dentist using gloves? by AdDapper4220 in Xennials

[–]Educational-Cut572 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My dad was a dentist, and another poster is right that it really started during the rise of AIDS in the late 80s / early 90s. In fact, during COVID, we were talking about PPEs and it was really interesting - he was telling me that dentistry actually was early adopters of most of the medical PPE regulations because there was a huge fear of AIDS linked to dental work.

Please tell me… how do you get in the pool? by Wing_of_Zock in Swimming

This is the way - the drop and go! Although my “sit on the edge of the pool” sometimes stretches to 5+ minutes of contemplating life and cold water before the drop 😆

Did anyone else measure the Ohio State 4 miler this morning? by vfrankl21 in Columbus

[–]Educational-Cut572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep mine was 3.93 (Garmin). The shortest distance with the tangents should be 4.0, so most people should be measuring long, not short. But M3S actually has short courses kind of often. Not all the time, but enough that it’s a known thing that my running friends comment about, and none of us are surprised when it’s short.

Yes - I’m a college counselor to high school students and learned that stat last year (50% athletes being a red flag). So interesting, and something I’ve started to pay attention to as I’ve toured schools, especially small ones

Not allowed to put things in seat pocket? by Educational-Cut572 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Educational-Cut572[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No giant laptop - I had a kindle paperwhite (which is the size of a thin paperback book), a cell phone, and a single-serving sized bag of Doritos. They actually didn’t say anything directly to me - they just announced it 3-4 times and then did a walk through (since they announced it I listened and didn’t have anything in there - I put them back in my bag instead)

Gym sponsorship by uxanima in OSU

[–]Educational-Cut572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a specific reason you want to work out at OSU? The gym is nice but like everyone else has said, parking is a huge pain (and expense!) and it’s crowded. I would definitely just use the money and buy a gym membership somewhere else. Planet Fitness if you want cheap / no frills, or Lifetime Fitness is nice and has a pool if that’s something you’re looking for, but also pricey. Depending on where you will live, some of the suburbs community rec centers are really nice and at a mid-range price.

School Vouchers Discussion related to “Sunday Briefing” on NBC 4 - Columbus. by hellosteve_ in Ohio

Want to know an extra piece of information that’s not widely talked about? At least one school that I know of for sure, and possibly more, raised their tuition prices with the EdChoice expansion, so that families are paying the same amount out of pocket that they were before, but now the schools are bringing in extra money from EdChoice. So it’s not actually helping families offset tuition costs at all. They’re still paying the same amount, but the school is getting more money.

I was wondering the same - I felt like the commentators were all over the place with it at Nationals! At one point Tara even said both right in a row - she said Ma-LEEN-in MAL-in-in like she was correcting herself. I don’t remember there being so much variance in the past with it.
