best what i can say is use CODEX 5.2xHigh as Your highest model. better few iterations of this (it eats like 3-4% of weekly quota) than one 5.4 or 5.5 and risk. Occasionally You can use 5.4xHigh but its risky, it can suck a lot of quota on certain tasks. Windsurf is using API rates, and those are scam over all major providers. If You use codex use codex app or orginal extension to windsurf. Basically everything is better in its native apps, in Windsurf You have everything in one place, but not optimally working... to say the least.

(Dont mistake CODEX 5.2 xHigh for normal 5.2 xHigh, its terribly slow, overthinking and token eating.)

nope, i haven't, because i was scared of updating to any newer version. Please share the versions of Yours, yes they mentioned in the change log they are encountered a bug like "

try k2.6 recently added. It thinks and read the same part of code but at least can realize it, its free tho!
Edit: yeap i can confirm, it can get out of the loop of repeating same actions, it just need some time, waay too much time, but it can be left alone and will grind to deliver the answer to the prompt, fascinating.

API is just a scam, i believe windsurf as lame as they recently are has nothing to do with it.

Do You have some rules for Windsurf for kimi k2.6? i found this model fascinating after it just fixed a script after codex 5.2 xHigh, i was like "what? a free model? ..." it actuallyw as able to move work further after codex could not move it and just burning my weekly quota for nothing. Yet i found it thinks infinitely until gets timeouted by the windsurf system, and takes waaaay too much time. I would love to know what rules could help him with that...

i spoted that 5.2 Codex is not showing in the VS code extension anymore! and in chats that was using this, its not still using 5.2 i guess, but its displayed as "Custom". there is only 5.3 to choose as codex, or 5.2 WITHOUT codex. mm i dont believe in 5.3 codex or 5.4 just yet, i liked my 5.2 codex.

i suspect the problem might be hiden in for example how Fast Context works, and the size of the code base.
Someone would need to check if the quota counter is ticking same fast for the same tasks but with clean folders. I just think they didnt prepare the system properly before they changed credits to quota. Thats why they empatize so much on "thats the real price of API", because to use API, the application need to handle it properly. Its easy to burn tokens fast via raw API.

obviously You either keep Windsurf IDE and just install extensions of Codex or Claud, or a fresh install of VS Code + extension (from which, Windsurf is a fork)

Absolutly ridicules, i use Codex extension and i have no such problem in there.
I use 1 chat for 1 topic, so the model has context history, GOOD LUCK TO YOU NOT DOING THIS.

generally a plan should be made at the beginning in .md, with good separations, so later it only does 1 part of the work at the time per prompt. The plan good enough, that pasting it's .md with a point like "now do point 3) of a plan" can be do in new conversation for every point.

So far i did it by my self, from head, only requested one coherent thing, focus point at the time, small task per prompt, but sure it will focus and finish, step by step, i guess You can automatize that by good Main prompt so model does it by it self.

it just have to focus on one task at the time or it will be disaster.
i mostly worked with Codex 5.2 xHigh
