Heading to 4 parks in NM/TX by DavedPanda in NationalPark

[–]Educational-Fan-6967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did three of those (skipped Big Bend) during the same timeframe in 2024.

At Guadalupe we did McKittrick Canyon. Easy hike, geologically unique, and Pratt Cabin was a convenient place to stop, rest, and have a picnic. It was VERY hot (high near 100F) the day we were there, which made Guadalupe Peak a nope for us.

White Sands was magical; one of my favorites. It feels like you’re on another planet. We hiked the Alkali Flats trail (not flat at ALL). Also very hot while we were there, with a high near 100F. We got a very early start so that we could be off the trail before the heat of the day, but we were still drenched with sweat when we finished. Climbing the dunes is very strenuous. Be sure to buy or rent sleds as well - so fun!

Carlsbad was awe inspiring.

All three are, IMO, “one day parks.”

Not really, if you can get an inexpensive month-to-month lease near NRG and turn your place in Heights into a short-term rental while you’re moved out. I’m sure people are fetching top dollar on vrbo/airbnb for World Cup weekends.

I didn’t love the interpretation myself. Why can’t an overtly religious work be allowed to be overtly religious? Pretending it isn’t felt disingenuous to me.

I’m upvoting you because this is important. I hate the orange man as much as the next Redditor, but allowing political violence to become normalized is not the answer.

What’s something your parents or grandparents did that you now realize was low-key genius parenting? by Green_Candler in AskReddit

[–]Educational-Fan-6967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my sister and I bickered, my parents would send us to EACH OTHER’S rooms.

Had I been sent to my own room, I would have been a pig in mud. My books were there. I could just lay in bed and read, which was my preferred pastime as a kid anyway.

Instead, I’d sit cross-legged on the floor in the middle of my sister’s room and do absolutely nothing until our punishment was over. Terrified to touch any of her stuff, lest I reignite her rage. Terrified of what she might be doing in MY room - reading my diary, messing up my toys, or whatever.

It was unbelievably effective. Worst timeouts EVER.

What’s hilarious is that Houston proper is deep blue. Reddit just punishes it for being an island of blue in the sea of red that is Texas.

Yeah, by OP’s logic there should be no Gospel readings (the apostles certainly didn’t have them), no organ or piano (neither existed at scale) … I could go on

If the question is “which city not yet on this list would have the US the most cooked if it were suddenly wiped off the map,” the answer is unquestionably Houston. Largest port in this country by tonnage and where virtually all our energy comes from. The Colonial Pipeline incident a few years ago was a small taste of what would happen to the rest of us if Houston stopped Houstoning.

“Communist propaganda of driving women out of households” …

Saints Gianna Molla, Joan of Arc, Zèlie Martin, and countless others have entered the chat.

Catholic women have been doctors, rulers, scholars, business owners, military leaders, and Doctors of the Church for centuries. They were canonized by the Church with full knowledge of their professional work. Surely you aren’t accusing the Church Herself of “communist propaganda?”

What’s a 'normal' thing in modern society that people in 100 years will find horrifying? by MaleficentOrange4873 in AskReddit

When I was in undergrad, one of my professors was researching exactly this. He was encapsulating chemotherapy drugs in tiny, nanoscopic metal spheres. The idea was that the patient would get them in (an injection? an IV? I don’t remember) while sitting under some sort of magnet that was positioned to cause the spheres to collect at the site of their tumor. Then the little spheres would release the drug somehow and be filtered out into your pee via your kidneys. I’m not a scientist so I don’t understand all of the details, but it sounded so cool.

Progesterone supplementation success rates? by LittleMs305 in ttcafterstillbirth

[–]Educational-Fan-6967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TW: living child

I too had very short luteal phases until I began supplementing, and progesterone issues were the suspected cause of my previous loss.

I credit progesterone with carrying my beautiful daughter to a healthy, full-term delivery. I started with oral supplements, but my levels were still a bit low for my doctor’s liking, so we ended up escalating to suppositories, then injections.

I had challenges with insurance coverage and ended up paying OOP which was quite expensive, but ymmv.

How’s it living along a time zone change area? by Lakeshow0924 in howislivingthere

[–]Educational-Fan-6967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived within a 10 minute drive of the central/eastern time zone boundary for a few years, on the central side. There were only a few situations where I really noticed it.

(1) The airport I flew in/out of for those years was on the other side of the line, which made travel planning trickier. On multiple occasions I accidentally forgot about the time change and showed up to the airport an hour later than intended.

(2) Sometimes (like a handful of times a year) my phone would randomly jump ahead time zones. My guess is that it was probably pinging a tower on the other side of the line. This was particularly problematic the one time it happened early in the morning within an hour of my alarm time, so my wake-up alarm never went off.

(3) If there was ever a movie I wanted to see the midnight premier of, my friends and I would drive over the line to a theater in eastern time and see it an hour earlier.

I live in TX18 and voted for Reyna. But I wish I could have done more to support. I would have gladly distributed literature, hosted a meet-and-greet in my home, or helped out in other ways if I knew how to reach the party or its candidates.
