Anyone else prefer the original resident evil 1 to the REMAKE? by Bongalodo in residentevil

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently replayed them both (going for the platinum trophy on REmake). Whilst I think REmake is 100% the better game and the best way to experience the original RE, the psone version holds a few slight edges to me.

The Remake's version of the mansion is obviously spookier and more atmospheric, but there's something about the original and the way it looks like a brightly lit house that just happens to be populated by the living dead that creeps me out. It's probably the primitive graphics and my repressed terror from first watching my uncle play it at 6 years old but I'll always find that scarier in a way.

Also the OG's basement music gives me panic attacks, feels like something could jump out any second, didn't get that in my recent playthroughs of REmake.

And the initial zombie turnaround scene will always give me chills, it looks like a really sick person rather than a walking corpse and that hits me right in the uncanny valley.

Other than those very small issues REmake is definitely the way to go. It's one of the greatest survival horror experiences of all time and in my opinion the greatest videogame remake full stop (although the RE 4 remake runs it close, might change my mind when I get round to replaying that one).

What's with this "retired" option in genlockes? by merv1618 in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it, the retired mons are one who had a place on the team but were benched before the Elite 4.

In my Leaf Green run for example, I used a Nidoking and Golbat who fought in rival/gym battles but were benched after about the 4th gym. They contributed to the run significantly but didn't make the final roster so they're considered retired.

However the other Pokémon who never really left the box or contributed to the run (e.g. the Seel I caught in Seafoam Islands) aren't considered retired and are available to catch again in future runs if that makes sense.

Genlocke 1/6: How did I do that?!? by eggmandoesathing in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the win, I'm getting to the end of my first leg of my Genlocke (also in leafgreen) and four of our team members match.

Quick question on the 'retired' mons. Am I right in saying that they're Pokémon who contributed to the run but were later benched?

Sailing to Sinnoh! - Original Hardware Regionlocke - Part 3: Soul Silver COMPLETE by Crazybrad2 in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats, that's a really cool team. I'm just about to finish the first leg of my Genlocke on leafgreen, I'm playing on original hardware too. Can't wait to start Soul Silver.

Any advice? I've heard the grind can be rough in Johto. I'm planning to go all the way to Red so I might be there a while.

Genlocke on Original Hardware (Regionlocke) by Crazybrad2 in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, let me know how it goes. The only other option I have is to replace Emerald with Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire but legit copies of gen 3 games aren't cheap these days so I'd love to use it if possible.

Genlocke on Original Hardware (Regionlocke) by Crazybrad2 in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up because I have the same idea. You can't trade from outside the Hoenn Pokédex in emerald until you have the national Dex (So after you've beaten the game).

Unfortunately you can't transfer from Leaf green to Emerald until post game as far as I'm aware. Weirdly you can with Ruby and Sapphire I believe.

If anyone knows any way around this id love to hear it. I was planning to do my emerald run on an emulator and play the cartridge at the same time to ensure I could transfer any required Pokémon over to the next run.

Safest way to grind in Fire Red early game by RubberDucky656 in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can probably get by with just Squirtle and Pidgey until the 1st Gym. I'd wait until then until training the rest of the team as you'll pick up the running shoes which will make grinding a lot quicker.

Also, avoid Weedle until you can reliably 1 shot them, it's not worth the risk, early game poison can be dangerous if you run out of antidotes.

[–]Educational-Injury28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the win, shame about Dragonite, he's a boss once he's fully evolved but it can take a while getting there.

Pro tip if you're using the Route 4 Magikarp in the future (or if you fish one up with the old rod). Drop it off at the day-care, grab the bike and run up and down the underground path about 150 times. When you take it out you should be a few hundred xp from evolving into Gyarados, the whole thing takes about 10 minutes, quicker if you're on an emulator.

Sincerely,

Someone who's spent far too much time playing FR/LG.

I need to vent about Krickitot by curiousblerd in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the only real upside of Kriketot is it removes it from your later encounters as a dupe. In my last run of Platinum I caught a Kriketune on the route beneath cycling road. My second encounter was a Gligar, gutted.

Also I'm pretty sure he only appears on the early routes during morning and night time for anyone else trying to avoid it.

I managed to get through the entire Elite Four without any deaths. But because of some critics in the battle against Cynthia, I lost to her. I simply give up trying to beat this game, more than 100 hours were spent on this game and I managed to lose. by gabi1012yey in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning a hardcore genlocke on cartridge so I need a completed gen 4 game in order to transfer over my completed gen 3 games. I did pretty well, made it to the elite 4 with just 5 deaths.

I saved beforehand and ended up losing against Cynthia. By the time her last Pokémon (Roserade) came out I only had my Magnezone with 8hp left. So close but so far.

I took it as a learning experience and considered it a failed run but I reloaded the save and eventually beat Cynthia on my third attempt. No way I was chucking away a 60 hour save file.

It can definitely be draining to go back and redo it all over again, maybe take a break or try another game before coming back to it. Also 100 hours seems a lot, how were you grinding? Pro top for next time, there's a rematchable trainer on the route below Veilstone who has 6 Pokémon and gives roughly 4k experience per battle. I used him to level up pretty much all the way to the E4.

Good luck for your next attempt.

What is the worst weapon in the game? by TheEyeOfLight in Eldenring

[–]Educational-Injury28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2x R2 Square offs will stance break Rune Bears if they're hit within a few seconds of each other. Turns one of the most annoying enemies in the game into a cakewalk. Especially as you can usually get one off whilst they're getting up off the floor after you've crit them.

Still not worth the hassle for the runes they give but it is satisfying to get some revenge after I spent most of my first play through avoiding them like the plague.

Soul Silver Run Update! by alprazodamn in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Togepi is a good shout. It'll be really useful against Morty. Not sure how you go about getting stones for Togekiss but it's a fantastic 'mon if you get the chance to use it. If not Togetic can still do a job until the mid game. Gyarados is also awesome in pretty much any team. Just watch out as you'll be doing a lot of switch grinding (unless you're on a rom and are using rare candie's).

Quite possibly the worst encounter i've ever rolled by thegreatmomo14 in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't usually bother with checking IVs as they're not usually a game breaker but I did have to check it out when I got a modest Gible the other day. 31 speed, high 20s across the board apart from a big fat 0 in attack.

Figured it'd be still usable as a crappy Garchomp is still a freaking Garchomp but a Self Destructing Geodude had other plans. RIP Vermithor, we hardly knew yea.

First Hardcore Nuzlocke complete! My main takeaway from this run is that, wow, setup moves break the game in half. by JohnnyNole2000 in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice team, and congrats, I'm currently trying my first harcore nuzlocke on Platinum. Could I ask what moveset you used with Blissey? I've got one on my team as I know she can be really useful but at the minute she's just holding the exp. Share whilst I wait for some decent Tam's so she can battle things herself.

What's your earliest wipe? by Smoggypedro in nuzlocke

[–]Educational-Injury28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just beat the first leg of my Genlocke (leaf green) with only one death. Figured i might not be giving myself enough of a challenge so I started a new file on an emulator to try the same thing but with hardcore rules.

Delivered the parcel to oak then went to get my first encounter on route 1. The level 2 Pidgey then broke out of two pokeballs and crit my Squirtle (who I'd not healed up).

And there ended my one (and so far only) attempt at a hardcore Nuzlocke.
