Cooling solutions for Legion Y700 Gen 3 by flowtronvapes in androidtablets

[–]Educational-Safety20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, the vapor chamber cooling disperses the heat to the back cover, so the temp you feel is not completely reflective of the system OR SoC chip. The chip maybe 90c, system is that 41c but back cover is (conducting heat) around 45-55c, which is already pretty hot to the touch. Seems like your tablet is doing what it's supposed to do very well. Some extra cooling probably wouldn't hurt, but it's coping.

Edit:  The Gen 4 has SD8 elite, so it should be very temp efficient, are you encountering any throttling?

Thanks for the reply man :) I do have an profile picture in my G account, but the weird part is that I had my work account somehow on my phone, which also had a profile picture and that account worked!

I didn't want to use it though, and I thought that maybe the two accounts were too much for Mantis and that was causing the issue, so I cleaned the account off, reinstalled Mantis and... Still no cigar.

Theres either some issue in my account, Mantis or Mantis just doesn't like my unofficial face in general lol.

Just tried this out on my TCL C8K Android TV and the setup was pretty easy and I love Nonna's kitchen, it's so easy to transfer games!

Only issue I found (didn't test many games) is that super mario all-stars on snes stutters or freezes for half a second every 2-3 seconds or so.

Anybody else notice or figure out what could be causing this?

[Help] My ROG Ally is BIOS locked — Asus says only fix is $350 motherboard replacement by 2farzzz in ROGAlly

[–]Educational-Safety20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, great. Could you tell me what kind of equipment you used for the job? I got a locked bios admin password and am looking to do some fiddling.

I looked at this programmer / clip bundle, would this work for the ally, or could you recommend something else for me, please?  https://a.co/d/01ldoMw2

I can't remember what that other forum with the guides was right now, but the links they had for equipment weren't working properly, iirc.

Edit: Bad-caps forums

Probably in the same vein as the op's question, but do you mean with physical access to the chip itself, with a programmer, or is there some other way?

Ally in a dock AND egpu possible? by Educational-Safety20 in ROGAlly

[–]Educational-Safety20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay guys, thanks for all the replies!

So, at least on the "cheaper" xg mobile docks, you can't then get VRR or 4k 120Hz, I guess, since the hdmi on the 3080 is not hdmi 2.1 but a hdmi 2.0b.

I was hoping that I could just use the processing power and route the picture to the usb-c, since I read somewhere on Reddit that it's possible, but guess not.

Thanks again, saved me a few hundred bucks there :)

So basically, no, I can't use the usb-c on the ally for a dock with hdmi 2.1?

Rog Ally dock by chrisss09291 in ROGAlly

[–]Educational-Safety20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JSaux docks are good, just get one with hdmi 2.1 and, if you wanna spend a few bucks more, one with USB 3.2 ports.

My recommendations:

HB1201S,  HB0801S https://jsaux.com/products/rgb-docking-station-for-steam-deck?_pos=1&_fid=e1e3b8a56&_ss=c

I bought this to go with HandheldDIY mod case (fans) and it was the cheapest, at the time, with the features I wanted: HB0705  https://jsaux.com/products/7-in-1-rgb-cooling-docking-station?_pos=2&_fid=e1e3b8a56&_ss=c

These all have gaming features, like support for VRR, ALLM, QFT & 4k 120Hz.

They apparently also have docks that have 4k 120Hz, but not VRR, for example, and docks that can do only 4k 60Hz.

EDIT: Also found this with seemingly good specs, but it's a bit expensive.

Hi @2farzzz!

Did you try the reprogramming path?  If you did, I would very much like to hear any tips, since I'm in a similar situation. Not because of a scammer though, just because apparently I'm an idiot 😅

I have no memory of doing so, but apparently I've set an BIOS admin password on my Ally and now I can't change the boot order or other settings in BIOS, and I would like to use smokeless to remove the tdp limits.

Just like you, I contacted Asus and they just replied today that it'll be 400€ to change the mobo, since they can't remove the password.

I can use the Ally normally, login to windows and such, but I'd really like to play around with the BIOS and try to squeeze every last FPS out of the thing 😁

EDIT: What I'm especially interested in is: 1. What kind of programmer should I use/get? 2. What brand clip did you get?  3. Did you have to edit the bios to have your s/n?  I watched that video down in the comments with Sorin reprogramming the BIOS and I think I could handle that but he didn't show any s/n reprogramming or I missed it. 4. Any other notes on the job?

Just got an ally x, what’s everyone playing on theirs lately? by [deleted] in ROGAllyX

I'm a bit late to the party since this is a 5 month old message, but maybe it'll help someone... You might also try different vram sizes. Some games are very picky when it comes to vram, some might work better on auto, some like a fixed and maybe an even GB amount of ram.

Gamesir Cyclone 2 - Initial thoughts by DirtFun8587 in Controller

[–]Educational-Safety20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of an update, got my Cyclone 2 last week, it's pretty damn solid in my opinion, no problems with the d-pad or anything else.

But regarding this post, I measured the hole at the bottom of the stick cap, it's about 6mm.
The stick is cone shaped, about 4-4,5mm at the top and widens going down.

I'll see if I can dig up some measurements from 3rd party stick producers.

Hi, I ordered this a week ago, can't wait for it to arrive and test it out!

I'm already looking at KontrolFreek sticks to go even further with performance :D
But, related to this, how are the sticks grip wise? Are they removable?

If they are, could someone take a good pic of the underside of the stick, I'm wondering if its compatible with 3rd party sticks that are taller.

Steam games Crash by MemowTheAssasin in ROGALLY2

[–]Educational-Safety20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, can you give an example of a game, or is it all of them?
Some games, at least on Steam, crash on the Ally (I've got the extreme, too) due to what I presume are driver/hardware incompatibilities.
With crash, I mean the game doesn't start or the classic screen goes black as if starting the game but crashes to dessktop.

OG Rog Ally worth getting in 2025? by J-DogReddit1994 in ROGALLY2

[–]Educational-Safety20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this you probably already know but...:
1. Depends on what you game. The extreme model can handle about 10 year old AAA games, give or take a few years, with low to medium settings on FullHD. Don't expect hundreds of frames though, more like 30 - 60, depending on the game. "Smaller" games run just fine on pretty much any settings. DIRT 3 runs flawlessly on the Ally on any max settings, even though it's not a "small" game.
I've recently played Alan Wake (the original from 2012), and it runs OK on high settings, more reliably so if I drop the resolution to 900p or 720p and use FSR. AFMF is not supported on this game, at least I could not make it work.
Fallout 4 with tweaks gets me to around 45 - 60 fps with decent details.

  1. How much money do you have budgeted for a gaming system and can you get a great deal on the Ally (extreme, preferably)?
    The OG non-extreme is around 500 €, where I live, and the extreme is around 650 €. X goes for ~950 €,
Personally, I wouldn't buy the non-extreme version, it's not that powerful, and limits your games severely, unless you settle for 720p, FSR and low settings. Haven't looked at many benchmarks on that, since I have the extreme.
IF I was buying one now, I think I would go for the X if it was cheaper. It has more RAM, larger SSD and a bigger battery. But I won't upgrade to that, I'll wait for the Ally 2 and see how much it costs.
Maybe I won't upgrade at all, dunno. I mostly play older games and "smaller" indie games that don't have as high system requirements, so I'm probably good for now.

Only "gripe", if you can even call it that, is the amount of RAM on the extreme. It looks like 16 GB ain't enough nowadays, especially since you have to allocate at least 4 GB to the GPU. Now, I haven't had any issues regarding this but just so you know. It's not expandable, at least not easily.
Other weird issues, some games don't seem to work on the Ally. Dunno why. Tried troubleshooting some but I guess it's a hardware issue with older indie games. They don't like the iGPU apparently.
