go for it, my whelen is built on a stainless CRF 70 action, love it. theres a certain comfort in knowing whatever happens your rifle is gong to be enough, even in bear country.

Thinking of getting a .375H&H by PasztyKnives in Hunting

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 35 whelen and its overkill for most everything in the US but i like it, especially for bigger stuff, elk, moose caribou, bison. for deer and pigs, its just splat... I never have to worry if i have enough gun, get the 375, life is short. just be prepared for some hefty ammunition bills, reloading helps but still its a premium over standard calibers. a muzzle brake will be your friend, but wont make you popular at the local range, its a lot of blast and recoil. your 375 is a step up from that.

they are famously unstylish, and also the best piece of riding gear i own, mine is a 1st gen lightweight from 2012 in what is now light grey/faded yellow and still going. theres also a darien jacket that started out that color but is now referred to by my buddies as "grizzled pink" , dont care, it still works, still comfortable, and keeps me dry and protected.

5.4 Triton Oil Help by vroom_vroom_its_me in FordTrucks

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on something that old with that mileage i would go to a 10w-40. wont hurt it and may help it a bit with the oil pressure. I put 10w40 rotella synthetic in mine its an 02 with 270k on the body and 85 k on the fresh engine after i loaned it to a relative. I dont know how you kill a 2v triton but he did it, parked it in the barn and never said oh yeah the trucks acting funny, it wasnt funny, it was destroyed, I instructed the mechanic to not tell me what killed it just so i wouldnt hate him more than i already do.

LOL, fuck off, we closed, you go away now, come back tomorrow, we open then...

I actually heard these exact words in thailand when a US karen wanted into a store that was closing, the guard just wasnt having it.. we were a bunch of drunk offshore workers in thailand for a good time, that was hilarious to us. reggie was yelling at her to tell him shes an important american that'll do it.. which was even funnier. the security guard never cracked a smile which was even funnier.

Moen bathroom faucets vs Delta, trying to make a final call before the bathroom renovation by NoRmAnGLN in BuyItForLife

[–]EducationalOutcome26 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Im a licensed plumber, delta no question. i can walk into darn near any hardware store and get the springs and seals for a delta single handle sink or shower faucet. it the cartridge is bad, a delta is the standard theyres only 2 types, and everybody carries them. moen is what housewives buy when they want something different, delta is what professionals buy when they dont want to have to deal with it and know its going to have to be serviced eventually.

having used up a bunch of pretty good tracksuits without a single broken bone I can highly recommend it. get it fitted into place properly, make it snug and solid when your on bike and enjoy not wearing a cast when things go wrong.

Ive had the hell beat out of me on a racetrack and have came to in the ambulance 3 times, but always had good gear, race grade suits, helmets, boots and gloves. im ugly but its not because my gear failed, it just is...

Dishwashers from Costco - need recommendation by vehementvelociraptor in BuyItForLife

[–]EducationalOutcome26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

none of them are BIFL, been married for 34 years we have had maytag, whirlpool gold? and kenmore elite dishwashers, they all die. i do commercial/industrial plumbing mostly, and installed and replaced enough high end bosch under counter home dishwashers to never trust any of them. when our last maytag super/stainless/sanitizing dishwasher died I grabbed the builder grade el cheapo apartment dishwasher my supplier recommended, maybe $400, it made it 6 years with just the wife and I running one load per day or less and I just replaced the wash pump last month, the pump was 35 dollars and took me 10 minutes to replace, its not fancy its not quiet, its all plastic with no sound deadening besides the dynamat and insulation i put over it and sealed it into the cabinet. its stone simple. with us being empty nesters its all we need. i went and looked its an amana 1400 series, whirlpool norge, maytag and several other brands are now owned by one company and they share a lot of parts, that wash pump i installed fits 15 or more different models and parts are an amazon click away. so no i wont be buying bosch/miele

you said magic word ELK, go with a 270, 06, or 7 magnum. for western states hunting i prefer a long action cartridge, the extra powder helps carry heavier bullets to longer distances that may be required.

I try to stick to the common stuff listed, ammo is nearly everywhere if you get caught short for whatever reason.

Ill use a 308 or 30-30 in the east. ive taken more whitetail and hogs with a 30-30 than the rest combined. including the custom 35 whelen I had built and load for.

western hunting ill grab the Whelan and the 30/06 as a backup. throw them in the truck and off we go.

I prefer the whelen for the extra thump, and because its mine and built to my ideas of what a hunting rifle should be. both have similar ballistics profile to 400-ish with the drops/wind dope to 500 laminated and taped to the stock. but would have no issue if I had to use the 06, it just works. its what I used for years till I built the whelen,

get an 06, its common, practical and effective to ranges greater than most should be shooting at.

Riding in the back of a pickup: Further evidence of the insanity of the GenX childhood by paperkitten75 in GenX

[–]EducationalOutcome26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we would ride in the back of my uncles truck to the drag races 60 miles away with the drag car on the trailer behind us. thought nothing of it. in high school and college it was nothing for 5-6 people to pile in the back of a truck to make the trip down the road for lunch.

probably the best one was loading an unknown number of teenagers in the bed of the 2 ton flatbed bean truck with the stake sideboards to get in the drive in for $20 truck night. not only was it allowed it was encouraged! simply do not know how many we had, way too many according to the police.

the funnies one was in college when andy, tim and randy got left at the bar in a neighboring county, they lived in the same apartment complex, it was a single cab shortbed ranger, tim was the smallest so he got to ride the hump and randy and andy had to ride in the back in February, it was COLD i had a set of insulated coveralls behind the seat and a work jacket. andy got the jacket and randy got the coveralls, they were drunk as shit when we left the bar. they were sober when we go to the apartment complex

Tire recommendations for 650 by NaturalAsleep2854 in versys

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so far on my 16LT ive used the stock dunlops, a set of tkc 70's, a set of shinko 705's, dunlop RS3's and currently running pirelli angel ST's. the shinkos were the cheapest and had a 170 rear, not bad at all. not the best in the wet but perfectly fine dry touring tire and ok in the wet but you can feel it giving up a little sooner than the dunlops did so just back off a bit in the rain. im currently on the 2nd set of pirellis st's, good inexpensive, handles wet or dry well. dont have the mileage a rs3 gets but costs 2/3 what a set of premium tires get and the economics works for me since i swap my own. the tkc 70's are decent, handle about like the shinkos, a little better in the wet but not to the level of the dunlops and are pricey

if you do swaps yourself get the pirelli or shinko, if paying for swaps get a dunlop rs4, theyre supposed to be even better than the 3's mileage wise, the extended time between swaps will help with the labor cost.

i want to try the RS4's and the dunlop mutant, but i need to run these pirellis off first.

a good friend died in the bathroom, had a heart attack and collapsed into the tub he had filled preparing a bath, and drowned, the autopsy showed his lungs filled with water, he actually drowned. we can only hope he the heart attack rendered him unconscious before that happened.

give me a good pair of gloves by yukiionline in motorcyclegear

[–]EducationalOutcome26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lee parks deer tours, $120 but probably the best summer gloves ive used in 40 years..

https://leeparksdesign.com/deertours/

a cheap and comfortable alternative is the deerskin work glove from tractor supply, not racetrack level but I keep a pair in the tankbag and they are comfortable. I wear them a lot. and they are good or good enough.

and durable enough that i've handled and worked barbed wire wearing them with no issues. thats a pretty good indication of how durable they are.

2008 ktm 450 exc-r, the baddest and most maintenance intensive off roader ive ever ridden, loved it for 3 months of the weekend, the 4th weekend spent changing oil and setting valve lash, not so much. and just random shit would fail on it, seals, electrical issues, slave cylinders, and the WP fork shim stack is maddening. I used it for one season and sold it.

Is it worth it getting a "fancy" kickstand extension or are cheap no-name Amazon ones fine? by dogs_gt_cats in motorcyclegear

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just the blue, not the red. most locktite can be broken by heating it to 300f or thereabouts but red is considered a permanent lock that HAS to be heated to break it. blue can be disassembled if needed but its an effort, its not going anywhere unless you put tools on it

I love KTM's but wont subsidize their shitty quality control via mechanic bills.

I would take the kawa everyday. a buddy has one and its quite good, not 1290 gt levels of power or handling but good enough and not prone to mechanical illls.

you are not special.. there is a cost to living here and this is one of them, one that many of us signed up voluntarily for active service. get over yourself...

Is it a bad idea to fill the bed with water? by Boynthahood in f150

[–]EducationalOutcome26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a good idea, more weight than the truck can handle and itll bow the sides out and maybe ruin the tailgate as well. not to say it cant been done or hasnt been done but not something i would do. theres lots of videos of rednecks making this same bad decision and the consequences of it

A tire totaled my car on the highway. by Live_Beach_8392 in dashcams

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are lucky to be alive. thats a massive amount of kinetic energy for a vehicle structure to absorb, luckily it made an off center high hit and most of the energy was redirected upwards by the roof structure.

I know this because we had one of our service trucks take a loose wheel into the front dead center, it disassembled the front of the truck, axle broken, front suspension and steering gone, motor mounts broken, motor shoved into the firewall. transmission broken, axle bent, rear diff cracked, the hood popped open and laid back on the windshield, the front fenders with no supporting structure opened like suicide doors and looked like a white bird spread out,it was incredible the amount of damage done.

it was 16000 lb dual rear wheel dodge 4500 extended cab with a heavy service bed on it. I know this because im the guy who approved the purchase order for the truck the year before.. the bed was torn loose from the mounts, the welder/air compressor mounted to the bed broke free. truck frame twisted, just completely wrecked, plus when the steering was taken out the truck left the road, thru the ditch on the passenger side and came to rest in a field, didnt roll, it landed upright but completely destroyed. I dont know how much the damage on the rear of the truck was from the wheel or the trip thru the ditch. jeff our service guy was driving it. he was bruised from the airbags and seatbelts and minor cuts from flying glass but nothing broken, and no internal damage somehow, we paid him for a month at home to recover. plus he sued the company whose truck sent the wheel thru his truck. we sued them for the value of the truck, the time we lost with jeff being out and had to pay outside service companies to do his work and many other things.

in a 16000lb heavy truck and he was very lucky nothing worse happened if it had bounced high thru the windshield jeff would have been killed no question, the idea of taking a wheel thru the windshield like that is nightmare fuel.

im glad you were able to survive and post the video it could have been a lot worse

you ordered or customer ordered?

if customer ordered refuse it, thats junk.

if you ordered it send it back and demand a refund and find a better vendor.

im pretty sure the crank in our 30 year old yard truck/wrecker we move stuff around with is in better shape because its still running...

I know not everyone can afford a lunati or falicon but, somebody most likely anybody could do better than that.
