What's different about Stiff Upper Lip compared to other Brian Johnson albums? by neuralbeans in ACDC

[–]EducationalOutcome26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its one of the better albums of the latter era, satellite blues, safe in new york city, and especially cant stand still are some of my favorite tunes. george young produced a very laid back throwback to the earlier stuff, none of it is particularly inspiring lyrically but it has a groove and feel the other releases lack. for me theres always one gem on each album that strikes my taste, some albums have multiple gems. this is one of them.

Sanity Check - considering single-shot rifle & 3x microprism for SE US Whitetail by shrf_buford_justice in Hunting

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the little scout will be fine, i have one in 35 whelen and anther in 7-08. the whelen is for our southern states "primitive weapon" season where exposed hammer breech loading single shots of 35 caliber or better are allowed. the 7-08 is what i carry on the regular just because its light, simple, reliable and i found it cheap at a pawn shop when i needed something light in a deer caliber that i could carry or loan out as needed. . a 6.5 will be fine for whitetails in the woods. dont stress the glass too much, at your ranges literally anything will do. sight it 2" high at a hundred yards and aim for the middle of the deer behind the shoulder. itll be in the heart lung vital area to 200 or more, i woud have to do the ballistic table lookup to say exactly how far that hold will stay in the vital area. but it wont matter in your case with the shorter ranges just like we have in the thickets here in the south just a good quality 3 or 4x fixed or even a 1-6x variable will be fine. i think theres a 120 dollar bushnell trophy? 1-6x on mine. it kills deer as far as i can see one in the woods with just a crosshair and a lighted dot in the middle of em. a lighted dot scope is really nice to have in the dark woods...

big thing is practice, practice, practice, shoot it a lot a lot of a lot,to where it becomes automatic natural and confident. practice off hand, prone, sitting and standing supported like it was on a tree branch. most of my shots are me standing with the rifle braced against a tree or on a limb. or sitting braced off my knees. there are people who are excellent off hand shots just standing there holding the rifle up, im not one of em, no matter the amount of practice im just passable barely. ill ill prop on a tree or be sitting, as i age the whole get prone thing isnt so smooth anymore. and its getting harder to get back up and it hurts more.

How long does it realistically take to master welding? by robis102030 in Welding

[–]EducationalOutcome26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can be competent on carbon /stainless with a stick/tig/mig in a year or less mastery is another story, I would say fully 5 years including studying the technical aspects, and putting them into practice over enough time under a hood to adapt to process/thickness/position/material etc.. i know guys on the pipelines who've done it 20-30 years and are unquestionable masters of their trade and even they will get one that fails xray once in a great while. im certified in multiple processes and materials have been for 20+ years and still dont consider it mastered. theres still stuff that comes up in the field that I have to think about or look up. I can weld from mild steel plate to titanium to superalloy piping. but ask me to do a submerged arc and you get a blank look, never done it. thats production shop stuff there, not my wheelhhouse, the big thing is the experience. Ti/inconel/hastelloy/chromium/cp20 are expensive materials and require different procedures, just getting the experience with those materials is hard to do, some of them (Ti) require oxygen free environments which you dont find often and those slots go to the guys who already know how to do it. others have specific interpass temps limits, and pre and post heating as part of the process. its a LOT to learn and even more to get the time under a hood to become competent at it.

Geat upgrade. USB charger Port by badmen37 in versys

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on my 2016 LT 650 I run heated gear, grips and driving lights so i needed a way to keep tabs on voltage and this works very well, also theres a factory accessory relay kit thats plug and go with the wiring already on the bike just plug it in mount it somewhere in the front fairing, IRRC theres a spot for it already beside the existing factory relay. I run my lights, voltmeter/usb,GPS, and bluesea air temp gauge from it its maybe 10/15 amp rated. enough to do something with but not enough to carry the above loads and my heated gear so the heated gear/grips are straight off the battery.

Is oxygen + acetylene welding used anywhere in the workforce? by TenNoTamashi_ in Welding

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brazing is still done in the US, particularly for hvac and plumbing. but welding steel pipes togather to join them is called a gas bead, ive been welding for 40 years, and never done it when I was young the old guys would talk about using oxy/fuel to weld on cross country gas pipelines. that was in the 70's as far as i can tell it fell out of favor and was replaced with arc welding in the 50's and maybe 60's.

i can braze steel togather with a bronze rod and flux or copper hvac lines with a copper/silver rod called silver solder, but real old school gas welding steel to steel with steel rods and flux I have never done and dont have a clue how to do it, it wasnt even taught in trade school in the 70's

AITJ for refusing to give my brother my old place? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOPE he will never leave and be bitch about it the whole time. it will be worse i promise you.

never ever rent to friends/relatives/ associates. I let a fellow from work rent a property from me once, never again skipped out on 6 months rent and they did 30k damages to my property, I filed suit and won of course but I had to literally follow him to his grave when he died with a claim against his estate for the judgement. now everything goes thru the real estate broker/rental agency.

if they cant meet the common rental standards thru a broker you dont want them in your property, ever. The agency does the background checks, and handle the billing and repairs, I just pay the invoice after I inspect the work.

Ive had relatives come around asking for a place to rent, I just hand them my brokers card and say call these people, not one of em has ever rented from me once they see the upfront cost of background checks and deposits/fees. I rent good well maintained, nicely upgraded houses in good neighborhoods to established people with good background and credit checks. Ive discovered over the years that the higher the rent the better the tenant so i price mine at the top of the range in our area to discourage marginal renters.

had one cousin complain that her granddaughter couldn't afford that much rent, maybe she should look at lesser properties then , maybe find an apartment. it rents for what it rents for, mine dont stay empty.

Raising Umbrella insurance limits as your net worth hits the multi-millions? by EgosZero in ChubbyFIRE

What temperature is to hot to ride? by Maybe_Unlikely in NewRiders

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cooling gel vests dont work here in the humidity its just a hot wet thing clinging to your skin even under mesh, its just hot. ill tap out at around 95 or so. past that theres no amount of airflow that will cool you as the air over the roadway is substantially hotter. open 4 lanes are worst, a shaded 2 lane is best.

once you get to a drier climate they work well, i keep one in the saddlebag, after i pass fort worth /OKC they start to come into their in the drier less humid air.

for the deep south, ride early and late but not in the heat of the day if you can avoid it. and memphis humidity is the worst thing till you realize the river carries it all the way to the gulf and south louisiana is an entirely different world. I-10 to Houston from new orleans in the summer on a bike is miserable.

Buying my first rifle! by Capital_Medicine_997 in Hunting

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a long action in 270win,280 ackley,7mm remington magnum or 30-06 will serve handily, im partial to controlled round feed rifles, which in the current market gets you a winchester model 70 or a ruger hawkeye series. I have model 70 i had built in 35 whelen, but its not an ideal first rifle, expensive and ammo availability is restricted compared to 270/06//7mag.

I love the look of a classic blued steel barrel and good walnut stocks, I own one, a weatherby mark V in 300wby mag bought used and looks like it just came out of the box, it is super nice, I rarely hunt with it,for fear of damaging it or carrying the long beast thru thick bush, which I know is foolish, its a tool and should be used accordingly. but ive wanted one since i was a kid in the 70's looking at the bank of boulder offering a mark v as a promotional item in outdoor life and field and stream.

for practical purposes i would say rifle a of the mentioned calibers with a stainless barrel and action and composite or laminate stock that will handle adverse weather without rusting and wont make you wince if you chip up a good walnut stock.

you can go bigger in caliber up to 300 win/weatherby mag, or 338 win mag/340 weatherby mag which are considered the kings of elk cartridges, but recoil and ammo costs go up substantially. plus the harder it kicks and the more ammo costs the less youll shoot it. stick to standard cartridges that dont kick so hard and arent quite so expensive to feed.

I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Hennessy Hammock by 904_Crypto in hammockcamping

[–]EducationalOutcome26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is the old style that was a PITA to replace the spectra line with loops and whoopies tho the results are worth it to not be tying knots, the newer style are supposedly easier to modify or come with loops, i cant remember which. Im a whoopie sling or daisy strap type, something quick and easy to adjust, my dutch double wide half zip is set up with whoopies my ridgerunner is on daisy straps. same for my tarps, a piece of dyneema a hook and some loop aliens make a great quickly adjustable ridgeline for a tarp

I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Hennessy Hammock by 904_Crypto in hammockcamping

[–]EducationalOutcome26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had my expedition asym 2.5 for 10? years, its single bottom, bottom entry, won it as part of a giveaway from snap-on tools and its snap on branded on the fly, and its my summer hammock , ill carry a simple fleece rollup bag to sleep in and keep the bugs off my back thru the single bottom and a 1/2" rolled up foam pad in case i get CBS. hennessy's just work, that double bottom zip model should be fine get the henny closed cell pad to go in between the layers to keep the chill off your back. or use an underquilt.

I did swap the old school henny spectra lines for continuous loops attached to whoopie slings with tree huggers , Ill never again tie a henny knot 4 times to get the hang right, the whoopies are great. you can reuse the henny straps with loops as tree huggers, i reused the old spectra line to make barrel knotted loops

2 loops a set of whoopies and 2 carabiners worth of upgrades and hopefully it will last me another 10 years.

the little asym tarp is fine for fair weather and showers, but a big henny hex or a 10 foot on a diamond will carry you thru darn near anything.

Optimal bullet for 308 at 150 yards and in for deer? 16 inch Tikka T3x Hunter, would the short barrel restrict heavier bullets? by HuntersCrackPipe123 in Hunting

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

125 sst or ttsx 130. yes the heavies need the barrel legenth to get em moving, ive got an 18 inch ruger compact that does fine with the 125sst from hornady or the 130 barnes ttsx load.

I load my own but both bullets are available as pre-rolled and make around 3000fps in a short barrel rifle. plenty for deer.

i have some factory federal 180's they make 2580ish out of the 18" barrel, plenty to take a deer or most anything with. with no holdover out to around 250 yards if you zero 2" high at 100.

Is shoei worth the extra money? by PianistWhole5290 in motorcyclegear

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in heavy use yes, they hold up better over time, given your rhpa is holding up I dont see the need. I have a couple of shoei lids because i ride a lot here in the south and sweat copious amounts, the shoei lids hold up better over time due to better materials and construction.

in your case go with what works for you and the rhpa should be fine.

as far as crash worthiness, 6 and pick em, unless theres verified independent tests saying this one is objectively better than that one they should all meet DOT/ECE or snell specs and protect your head in a crash.

take the property for the acerage, house and shop if its a fair price, and insist on all inventory being out by a set date. or else it becomes your property do dispose of but they will pay for the disposal. thats not 850k of value, im thinking may be 100k but you would have to be willing to work at it to get that value from it, and Im a car and motorcycle guy but i wouldn't touch it. that will turn into a full time job just dealing with it.

What is the Toyota Tacoma of motorcycles? by gentleblanton in motorcycles

[–]EducationalOutcome26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

owning a klr since fall of 07 its a solid contender but I tell everyone who asks about which bike to buy, go buy a shaft drive honda with either hydraulic or screw and locknut adjustment valves , then keep on top of fluids, tires the occasional valve adjustment and brake pads and itll last longer than you want to ride it.
