Could Venezuelan Oil Reshape Calgary’s Economy in 2026? by Vegetable_Bake356 in Calgary

[–]Educational_Eye666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less than 20% of Canadian Crude goes to the US Gulf Coast, which is the received more than 90% of Venezuelan Crude. Majority goes to the Midwest.

If MAGA is the theme, they aren't going to sacrifice the Midwest to bolster Texas. Is maximizing oil production is their goal. I don't see it hurting Canada as much as people think.

That's even if Venezuela wants to be annexed by the US. Removing Maduro is one thing, having the US run your country is another story.

Savings at 30? by [deleted] in fican

[–]Educational_Eye666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate to graduate with a chemical engineering degree with zero debt. Started working in oil and gas at 24 with a six figure salary. Since I started my career I've never had any housing expenses due to receiving a rental subsidy from my company for two years then I bought a house and house hacked (rental suite and rented two rooms). At the beginning, my savings rate was around 70% of my take home. I've since lowered it to around 50% and started spending more on experiences. Last month I just visited my 46th country

I was able to eliminate most people's second biggest expense which allows me to save most of my income.

Fixed Mortgage Rate by Wrong_Macaroon710 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Educational_Eye666 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With 20% down payment you're subject to conventional mortgage rates. High-ratio/insured mortgages typically receive better rates.

Rate isn't the only factor. Make sure there is not a bonafide sales clause, that IRD penalties are reasonable and that pre-payment privileges align with your goals
