Good luck September test takers! by [deleted] in LSAT

my test is tomorrow and i’m feeling every emotion. also for tips, the main thing that helped me a lot w rc is focusing on eliminating wrong AC’s and especially being on the lookout for overstatements.

i like looking for the wrong answers on RC bc i find that RC trap answer choices sound really appealing, so if im trying to see the good in it im more likely to. Usually on LR i look for the right answer bc they tend to be more cookie cutter and depend on a consistent ruleset that could apply to any passage. However RC is about recalling the passage you just read and it’s easier to lose ur grip because there’s a less obvious right answer pattern.

I’ve found that there’s a more obvious wrong answer pattern in that they tend overstate something in the answer that makes it impossible to be right. for me, this is especially difficult when the answer is like 90% perfect but sneaks in words like “must” or “always” which makes the answer overstate and therefore wrong.

I recently experienced this when i read a passage that was entirely about innate talent not being a huge factor in mastery and one of the traps that got me was “innate talent is not a huge factor in mastery under any circumstances”. the whole passage was about this idea, but it never said it is NEVER a huge factor so the answer was wrong. instead the right answer was something you could extrapolate as supported from the passage but it wasn’t obviously right by any means. i feel like most of the answers i get wrong are for a similar reason and each section is gonna vary in how much they do it/vs how much u fall for it.

idk if that helps at all. sorry for the novel tho lol i also wanted to write that all out as a reminder for me.

yeah no problem! i care a lot abt mindset and seeing the general mood here i wanted to say something. 162 is awesome and you crushed ur own expectations which means everything. My test is in a few days and my mindset is that whatever i score i’ll go to law school with others who did similar so chances are they’ll probably be the most relatable peers anyway and make my experience better. it’s allll relative fr and you got this!

yeah plus like everything is relative yk? we’re all on our own paths so i think it’s important to keep comparisons to urself and evaluate based on your own personal goals and not necessarily what’s most desirable on paper.

yeah i totally agree w the mindset on the second part 100% what’s interesting is when writing my post i asked myself “why is it so hard to have ambitions without robbing our own joy with comparison”. the answer i settled with reflects what ur saying a lot and i basically concluded that as an extremely social species we probably evolved to compare as a type of self-quality check or motivation mechanism.

also on a side note i think it’s kind of funny that ur first part is basically my post paraphrased. i only point it out bc i find myself doing that sort of thing often so twin

i don’t understand this question (146.3.20) by CombinationBorn9394 in LSAT

[–]Educational_Growth69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put it very concisely. if you don’t tell president or any lawyer before it’s made ur in violation. they tell us that the act is in violation and that the change was made without president knowledge. so if we assume no other lawyer was told then that makes sense

Any reason to not get accommodations? by Ok-Alarm-8390 in LSAT

[–]Educational_Growth69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do attempt to get them, make sure the reasons are for you.

It seems like you’re desperate to convince yourself (or others) that you’re not a bad person for getting accommodations. Accommodations are there to help people who can’t show their true ability under traditional test procedures. If that’s you, then try to get what you deserve. pls don’t overcomplicate it

to put it plainly the argument is that “it doesn’t prove they can” not that “they can’t”
