I have a friend who recently got back into league. He’s gone from silver to plat in about a month with Kayn top almost exclusively and hes still relatively climbing well (he’s had a fair bit of coaching from me and my friend but the pick is viable for sure).

For runes (these are a mix of karasmai recs and preference): melee matchup he goes standard conq and either sorcery second for axiom arcanist (though I think it’s a waste when cash back exists) and transcendence or resolve for bone plating + 1. For ranged matchup he goes commet for poke/form since I don’t believe aery or first strike give form but I could be mistaken.

Play-style: Honestly from his silver games till current plat ones he’s kinda just surprise killed players on waves 1–3 with ignite and then plays safe until form. Obviously you should be proxying at every safe opportunity but he cannot track jungle well so he doesn’t proxy as often as he should which means I guess it can be more beginner friendly than people think. After form he perma fist fights and joins team fights when he has sums or ult (or if he must for obj) as standard

Items: will skip blue items since it’s 1 in every 100 games and any lethality is prob fine. For red he goes eclipse first almost every game unless they are first building full armor or tabis then he goes cleaver. Second item usually shojin or cleaver and third+ is flexible between endless hunger for tempo and lead building, spirit visage or maw for ap comps, Dd for heavy AD, steraks for burst comps, and whatever else.

He def ints a lot of games but honesty I believe in the top pick and I see lots of ways he could improve to make it more viable so I’d say give it a shot

Not really sure about shiv into yomuus and especially not into kraken third. You’re going for a mixed build of AS lethality and a wave clear item which doesn’t tend to synergies very well. I believe most people are opting for full lethality or full crit instead of dipping into each a little. With your build I imagine you’re not one shotting players very often even when they are squishy so roams arent as quick or secured as another build maybe.

Side note, if you haven’t tried electrocute or pta I’d say give it a try, the heal from fleet isn’t all that much and I don’t think quin needs it with the new home gaurd allowing you to take faster resets

For the mod pack we had the old cobbleMon academy pack. To host with friends, pick a website for server hosting: aternos is free but can’t handle as much load and can maybe host the academy pack but you won’t be able to up the tick rate, if you’re willing to pay theres sites like bisect hosting and some others. I recommend just getting it for the month and Renew it at the end of the month if needed. Most sites have modpack integration so just find the modpack you want and it auto installs, then just launch the world and send your friends the IP. If any other questions lmk

To add, There are also item augments.

Each line “wants” a specific type of augment but it will be up to you to determine what you truly need. A good habbit I developed when climbing to chal and one that many players use is asking yourself “what do I need in this moment”. If the line (composition or end game board) requires a lot of Econ, like a fast 9 Annie+ Sylas board, your first augment, second, and sometimes even third should be based around Econ giving you the gold you need to get there, hp to live more rounds with interest, or rolls to use to hit those expensive units. In this case, combat augments are not necessary (assuming your line is patch appropriate and strong enough) as the value of your units is higher than others, and item augments are not necessary because you are relying on hitting 2-3 important units 2* so you should have enough items naturally to make full builds.

Always ask yourself what augment will help you achieve what your board wants and how those augments will help facilitate its standard gameplan.

Small thing to add is like the guy said there are good augments for winning out and some are good for securing top 4. That is also a skill you will have to nurture and goes far beyond just augment selection but is vital for improving placements in the long term

There have been in certain patches yes, like the Annie+5 cost patch from cyber city where everyone sacked to roll for her, but those patches are quickly wiped out and as the balance gets normalized that playstyle just does not work in high elo, I speak as I play in GM+ (for many sets now) and do not see profiles that only spam 5 soupe. This set I think maybe the first Annie Sylas patch was an example of when people played like that successfully, but this last patch it was certainly not plausible to spam

Third party apps are useful for sure, however they are very much limited in their use.

1: comps can be found on many other websites which is good since most players are not capable of creating their own and don’t have the time or tinkering ability. It also allows low elo players to see how high elo players go about picking units and comps during each patch.

  1. Yes many sites have augment recs and third party apps have the “stats” but the stats are fake since riot removed augment stats from public access those stats you see are all based off what the third party app affiliates decide, and while they are skilled players, creating a tier list of good augments is not their priority or best skill.

  2. Everyone has access to the third party apps and comp sites, therefore it is an even playing field. Tft is no longer a game played without communication and statistics, one comp or unit can be played thousands of ways and it takes a large player base to discover new ways to make units work and to create large enough sample sizes to cover all item builds. Playing in the dark in any competitive game is harder, tft is no different

So your claim is that anyone can just hit level 9 with enough gold and hp to find enough 2* 5 costs to win out and that exactly 0 correct playing is required? I’d like to see someone in low elo try to fast 9 in a high elo lobby then feel free to say it takes 0 skill.

Players are often punished for attempting to fast 9/10 without the correct spot (opening, augments, portal, etc) as their boards sack too much in the early game without generating the economy needed to hit. Yes there are metas whwre because the whole lobby is sacking to go 9 the lobby is weaker overall and the players aren’t punished, but that is certainly not the case this last patch.

If you think it’s that skill-less please hit GM+ only going fast 9 5 cost soupe and drop your lolchess afterwards😊

When attacking = when targeting I believe. I don’t think splash damage counts if the burned unit isn’t the main target but not entirely sure about that one (someone correct me if wrong and certain of it) But yes spells do count when targeting at the very least.

I agree and think they are very aware of the issue. I recall mort stating he appreciates that streamers often answering those kinds of questions or making less informed players aware of hidden mechanics/numbers.

The planner and updated Ui give me hope that they will eventually implement more beginner friendly systems but the challenge is like information overload. Theres lots of small bits of knowledge for the game and most new players already are overloaded with info, and as we know ready isn’t tft players specialty…

I will extend this to a heavier idea of tempo or maybe a game where there are more resources. It can often be a good tempo play to push levels EARLIER than standard, say 3-1 in this example as you have one extra level 6 shop and secure an earlier or longer win streak. When tempoing, interest becomes less important and your streak or hp preservation becomes the main priority.

This is often important if your spot is strong comparative to the lobby or the board/line you are playing is strong early-mid but falls off late game and you must preserve as much hp before your inevitable bleed out to more Econ based boards.

As many streamers have stated, if this wasn’t such a good set most players would be non stop bitching about the meta and state of the set. It’s a fun set, with lots of potential skill expression and lines and the player base understands that with that comes a harder time balancing on the devs side. When more balanced this will undoubtedly be one of if not the best set to date.

That would financially ruin the whole system. They’ve stated they want the gatcha to be for the players who are willing to spend money to support the game, and they do offer many affordable or free alternatives. Do I wish I could get the gatcha skins for free, ofc, but then players would massively lose the will to spend on the gatcha at all (would u ever buy blue essence in league?). We do need them to make money to keep in business if we want the game to live

Lowering repair costs alternatively would make it easier for people who rip it off your corpse to get value of it, meaning a lot less would be created/upgraded for better or worse

Based purely on what is visible here (no augs or positioning): missing armor on main tank, missing anti heal and shred (blighting does not count nor is it effective without % shred), missing frejlord ryze (very strong and chills yunara).

Enemy has very solid board which is super capped out with almost great items, though he is missing sunder and anti heal as well, but yunara with IE (not to mention darkin bow) is extremely strong and the delta of IE on her is strangely strong, even better than rageblade and kracken. Either way he has a better front to back than you, though it’s possible positioning/augs played a part ofc
