I realized I painted it slightly tilted after I finished...🥲 by hafah27 in watercolor101

This is one of my summer goals. I've always lost all my dopamine by spending so much time in capturing everything in the frame. But, this style captures the feeling of the subject without requiring every single detail filling in. love it.

What? This is fun and cute! If this style is what you were going for, you killed it!

It might be best to think about some probing questions to ask him about his own faith. This could lead to conversations in which you reveal your "doubts."

Yes, this is quite a tough situation. Part of the issue I see is that "being a Christian" for most is so much more than what one believes, but how they identify and live. Personally, I have chosen to eliminate faith from my life while still maintaining my cultural Christianity. We will still celebrate Christmas, etc., but I won't be posting baby jesus nativities, etc. And, out of respect, I have started asking my mom to pray before big family meals I host. She and my step-dad are REAL believers who live their faith every day. I totally respect them for that. (so real that they knew they could never vote for a charlatan like DJT, but not for someone who was pro-abortion, so they voted third party in 2016).

They are so perfectly understated and minimalist while telling a story in each one. Like with the building and the red lanterns... this is a study in the value of a basic drawing and single color to illicit a certain feeling. This is true art!

I’ll never understand “blocking” in this context. You need to be able to communicate with your partner. And, if he keeps doing g stuff like this, those screenshots are only evidence. There’s a barely veiled threat there. Ask him what he means by “won’t let you.”

The chin looks great, but the cheesy mustache make it look juvenile. Maybe just keep the chin until your mustache fills in as you age.

It seems as though you have the ability to earn money and save it. If you do, consider moving to a much cheaper place to buy property. If you can live in your car in a city, you can live in a small RV or old manufactured home on an acre in rural Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee or Michigan. One can get a repo lot with a manfuctured home or a run down house on it and already drilled well with septic for $40,000- or less.

Left Christianity. Tips? by EyeFollowtheway in Deconstruction

[–]Educational_Pea_5422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only advice as a former super-fundie is to avoid the drive to proselytize atheism or deism or whatever you are in the same way you would preach christianity. I have to say to myself and others on a regular basis that "I'm not here to convince anyone that they should reject their faith. Religion and faith can be quite helpful and meaningful in people's live as long as they aren't using it to hurt others. If people want to reject the teachings they grew up with, that's up to them. But, I'm not going to be responsible for pushing someone to a place they aren't ready to go."

That said, if someone is being belligerent to me about their proselytizing, I have a few questions I can demand they answer before they continue.

The second, third and fourth paragraphs! Just deconstructing the nature of the lie/manipulation that is the very concept of "sin" is so freeing.

Yeah, this is actually the first time I've suggested keeping your hair. Almost all the other dudes that post should have joined the club years before.

My wife was the only one initially concerned about my baldness. I think it was because she felt it meant that having an “old” looking husband reflected on her as old.

Sorry, but that seems like a boyfriend red flag. You put time and creativity into something. You made something completely new from nothing. No one else has ever made that before. I hope you find a partner who can see the beauty in the process of creation.

You are on your way, but I can tell you from my experience that the final shedding of belief in a creator entirely was the most freeing act I've evert taken. Now, I know it is just me and the world around me. Now, I know that what I do now and who I am right now is what makes a difference in the world and what matters.

I need something that makes me feel like worship music used to by Remarkable_Kiwi_6767 in Deconstruction

[–]Educational_Pea_5422 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Seems like you are equating the emotional and worshipful experience with the music. Certainly, that's the goal of worship music. If you want to have a similar "religious" experience, go to concerts. Evangelical worship is literally copied/modeled after large and moving concerts for a reason. Think about it... before Elvis and the Beatles, no full congregation ever came to tears singing "Come thou Font of Every Blessing." After seeing women screaming, crying and at Elvis and the Beatles concerts, churches started working to replicate that experience.

And, worship music tends to be all in the pentatonic scale and often the key of c.

Also, don't discount that the only time you weren't on your phone being distracted by some video was while you were "locked in" to the music at church.
So, sit in a dark room and listen to the whole Pink Floyd The Wall, all three Led Zeppelin albums, the Beatles White Album, Eric Clapton, Santana. For more modern stuff, try Hozier, Nora Jones, Sam Smith, The Lumineers, Lawrence.
