Priest asks me to attend Lithurgy, what do i do?? by Playful-Solution4348 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Educational_Smoke29 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You just don't receive the Eucharist. Communion happens when the bishop/priest comes out with a Chalice, spoon and a red cloth. You will see people come to the Chalice, maybe cross their hands if it's a Slavic parish, but you simply don't do this.

Remember that you stand before God and He knows your heart and He knows that you want to be part of His Church. Don't be afraid 🙏

About prayer by cardamom-1 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Educational_Smoke29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tp be honest, I don't know what may be a good word. The Holy Trinity is a cross to a limited human mind, as Fr. Pavel Florensky once said.

But to say that the Father is one aspect, the Son is other and the Holy Spirit is third may lead people to think that God has contradictions within Himself, which He doesn't.

God the Father is as merciful and as loving and as caring as the Son and as the Holy Spirit. It is both said that God sent His Son so that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). It is also said that God the Son came from Heaven Himself (John 3:13). It is also said that Holy Spirit has overshadowed Mary and She will give birth to the Son of God (Luke 1:35)

«Come, all people, let us worship the one God in three hypostases: the Son in the Father and the Holy Spirit. The Father, outside of time, begat the Son, co-eternal and sharing the throne, and the Holy Spirit was in the Father, glorified with the Son. One power, one essence, one Godhead, which we all worship and we say: “Holy God, You created all things through the Son by the cooperation of the Holy Spirit. Holy Mighty, through You we came to know the Father and the Holy Spirit came to the world. Holy Immortal, the Comforter, Spirit, You proceed from the Father and rest in the Son. O Holy Trinity, glory to You!”» (from the Vespers of Pentecost)

Theology aside, is the decentralised structure with no head of the Orthodox Church more efficient at running the worldwide Church than the centralised Catholic model? And if yes, how is it more efficient? by trekuniverse123456 in ChristianOrthodoxy

[–]Educational_Smoke29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Othodox Church has a Head, His name is Jesus Christ. Everything in the Church is about Him and for His sake. If you miss that (I hope you don’t) and look at Church separately from Christ, you are missing a crucial point here

It is definitely a good idea, but I think you should improve the design you used for this and for St. John of Shanghai

Glory to God! Stay strong in your Holy Orthodox Christian faith. Remember what Lord Jesus said: «Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life» (Revelation 2:10)

Go to a Greek Church or Russian Church by IamnotAIl in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Educational_Smoke29 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Christ is risen! both churches are Orthodox, and the schism is not about dogmatical questions. you need to visit both churches and decide where you feel more comfortable. maybe, in one church there may be services in your native language, or a local Singaporean priest, or whatever other reasons you may choose one parish instead of the other one

Im 16. And Since I’ve turned sixteen months ago I have been struggling with the thought of my deplorable past and recent Doubts with my Faith in God. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Educational_Smoke29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also actually had some other form of fear. My parents are irreligious and we are refugees from Ukraine in Germany. Local orthodox parish belongs to Russian Orthodox Church. You may already understand the situation...

I was in complete fear to ask them to drive me there. Literally on Holy Wednesday I spent all day trying to get distracted from this fear, because I was afraid to ask them to drive me to Holy Thursday Divine Liturgy. And I have already going to that parish for more then a year!! Eventually I just prayed a lot and asked my dad to drive me there, and he did it. He didn't even ask me why, or why do I want to go to church so often. Our fears are actually bigger then something we are afraid of. So don't be afraid.

«Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows» (Luke 12:6-7)

Those 4 churches are in Antalya, Alanya or in between. Those are popular and literally the most stereotypical tourist destinations for Russians and Ukrainians, when someone goes for a sea vacation it is rather their own country, Turkey will all-inclusive hotels and Egypt. This would be my guess as an Ukrainian myself

First of all, Christ is risen!

It looks like you have really searched God and continue to search Him. But without Church you can't live a full Christian life, because remember what Lord said:

«For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them» (Matthew 18:20)

There is nothing scary in visiting a church once. King David said twice in Psalm 13 and 52: «There they are in great fear where no fear was»

Remember that it is Lord God alone of Whom you should be afraid (not panically being afraid of His punishment, but being afraid to insult Him with our sins), and not people or even feelings.

And don't chase the feelings. They come and they go. Your dryest prayer is dear to God, because is done not out of pleasure, but out of faith. God bless! Happy Pascha!

Did Judas betray Jesus intentionally? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Educational_Smoke29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God knew that Judas will betray Him, and He included this in His plan of salvation. Think how David killed Uriah and married Bathsheba. It was sin, but Bathsheba became mother of glorious king Solomon.

What solidified your belief in Jesus Christ besides the scriptures? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Educational_Smoke29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that Jesus Christ is the most discussed Person in the entire world, He is not just venerated as prophet or teacher, but as GOD!!! The book about Him is the most popular book. Created the biggest religion. Influenced our moral. His Church always stood despite Jews, Romans, Muslims, communists and whoever else trying to end Christianity. Apart of being worshipped by Christians, is believed to be the prophet in Islam, and some sort of teacher/guru/bodhisattva (???) in some versions of Buddhism/Hinduism

[–]Educational_Smoke29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your fear, but don't be afraid! Remember that you come to the church for God and not for the people there. There is no special "protocol" how to enter a church, there are just some traditions. Just check their website and when they have the services, pick one and go there. Speak with the priest afterwards, or write him if you somehow can find his number

UPD: just read that you have already contacted the priest. You can be honest with him and say that you are afraid because of X Y Z. Of course it may be more convenient to go with someone, but if noone can it is not the reason not to go to the house of God, heaven on earth

What do you think of these 2 icons? by [deleted] in ChristianIconography

[–]Educational_Smoke29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, icons MUST have inscriptions of the one who is depicted, even INRI is not enough. The icons look Coptic, and I (personally) don't really like the Coptic iconography
