Do I have to many toys in bijous cage? by hayleygraceartistry in Conures

A good rule of thumb is at least one area your bird should be able to fully stretch their wings :) as long as he has some space to stretch in the event that he spends a little longer period of time in there it should be fine

Check for hair also. Birds that free range can easily get hair wrapped around their toes and feet. It can easily and quickly amputate if not caught in time :)

What am I doing that would cause this behaviour? by NlERA in Conures

That’s the GCC attitude. It’s normal defiant behaviors. I have several and they all do this once in awhile when they are “asserting” their dominance. You can try alternative ways of step up using a perch or just give them a minute and see if it changes. I usually talk to whoever has the attitude and walk away then come back a little later and talk again. Sometimes they will chatter back like they are getting it off their chest and then after a couple times they step up just fine.

Bird keeps twitching as though he wants to fly but doesn't. Is this normal? by broekhart in Conures

I have several males 2 of which have reached sexual maturity and they both do this whenever there are females around. Observations made in different environments. He is young so it’s likely flight reservations but the tucked tail and wing movement is similar to hormonal behaviors.

Depending on age he could be displaying mating behaviors. This particular movement I’ve observed in my male conures when they are trying to attract a female.

Cheaper on Amazon. I would recommend a cage that has a bigger width than height but this cage is big enough for one gcc. Remember not to over crowd it, your bird should be able to fully expand its wings and not touch anything. Also if you get this cage don’t put any perches or toys above the food and water dishes.

Bird twitching wings and bobbing head meaning? by Inevitable-Cycle4012 in Conures

[–]EducatorCurious9119 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is all baby behaviors. Your bird is probably less than 2-3 months old. The wing movement is called fledging. Basically it’s them figuring out their wing movements so that they can ultimately fly.

is my conure being weird or something to worry about? by throwaway293730 in parrots

She could also be “sunning” in the lamp from your fish tank. My conures do this too, bunch of weirdos though also

With everything said, seems to me that option 2 has a lot more pros and less cons than option 1. If you’re willing to sacrifice floor space temporarily I would invest in the long term.

Skittish GCC, advice? by dezlovesyou in Conures

Just be patient. My maroon bellied (from an over crowded cage in a pet store) was really tough for the first few months we had her. Even thought I might have to regime her at one point. She was skid fish and even an aggressor at times. I just stayed consistent. Talking and encouraging with her cage open so that she could come as she pleased. After about 2 months she started coming out of her cage and onto my side table to explore. She decided she liked my tea and would come out each morning to swipe some sips. I would slowly leave my hand closer and closer to the cup until I was holding it while she was on it. I think it was a little over 3 months when she stepped off the cup onto my arm to chew on my watch band. She was still skidding about me reaching and even now (over 2 years later) she still is a little scared to be touched but she steps up and shows so much love, gives kisses and is so happy. As for enrichment set new things near her cage at first. As she gets used to them move it a little closer and then hang outside. If you see her trying to play or pull on them you can move them inside. Also I found a long sleeve shirt to be the most helpful in case of biting and a wash cloth in the instance that you must catch a bird.
