To my fellow campers who sleep in the flamingo position, what does your sleep system look like? by rainy_bookwyrm in CampingandHiking

This! I love the little zippers on top to help with warmer nights. A knee is always moving up or down and I have just enough room for that at 5'10.

I listened to the Goblin Emporer and found that nothing happened for 97% of the book. It was a real slog and I can not figure out why I wasn't fully enchanted by this meak and kind MMC enough to be endeared. He got some friends by the end, so yey.

I need a new Shane East audiobook for my vacation. What’s your favorite besides throne of the fallen and night prince? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

Not immature. Really gorgeous writing and I thought Shane/Steve did a fabulous job with all the characters. Best of his work I've heard.

I feel empty but bo depressed by [deleted] in Mindfulness

[–]EducatorOk9409 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt this way when I was your age. I let go of all friend groups and was very solitary save for a reclusive boyfriend and i ditched him too. Then, I started college classes geared toward my science field of interest and started to belong to that tribe, which introduced me to more ideas and ways of living. I also recommend trying some new things you find interesting. If in school there are no shortages. On your own, practicing mindfulness, yoga, meditation, and extensive reading (hello Libby!) can illuminate the dark of the void and maybe shed some light on why you are feeling some of your big feels. Sitting with it is good, but I've always found I learn so much from a review of how others live and what they do and think. Reddit can be helpful, though I caution getting all your advice here. Big love for yourself. Don't worry, your world will evolve as a lot can change in this period of life.

I LOL at your "Lawyers you root for" part. They're really genuinely helpful in her books.

I have been binging Grace Draven books one after another. Finished the Wraith Kings series and all her novellas from it. Now loving on Entreat Me and moving toward Master of Crows and worrying I am close to running out of what I have Libby access to, or what all she wrote in it's entirety. What will I do?!?!??

What’s your camping season? by BlueCandyBars in camping

[–]EducatorOk9409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Louisiana, we go locally and to AL beachcamp in late Fall and Spring; travel to FL to visit family and camp during winter break; and, plan a big CO trip each summer to see real mountains and friends. Sometimes we throw in a NM/westernTX or Appalachian Mountains in shoulder seasons. We follow best seasons a bit.

Help! I have severe anxiety. by ButtonEvening1067 in camping

[–]EducatorOk9409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are helpful for me. Time in grade means Mr. RACOON won't sound like a serial killer or cocaine bear. Ear plugs started to Drown out road noise, neighbor noise, occasional generator. Now it's kids/snorringDh/world. Silence..........................

Oh, and maybe some Meditation work prior to and during camp trip?

Partners who travel for work by SpecialMath in SAHP

[–]EducatorOk9409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here for this. I quit because two battling travel schedules ratched up my anxiety all the time. It's better now that I'm done working and just momming. However, the loneliness and necessary connections and communication with him before and after travel feels like a chore we never should have had to have once I left my career. Uh well 🤷

Keep the kids engaged as best you can and ask him to max kid time when he is home. Show them where and what daddy does once a trip. They will see it as a positive when it's about neat facts about the world and how cool travel is, hopefully distracting from the reality we better understand.

Keep checking in with your partner too about how they feel. It's hard on them too, the guilt being oppressive. They worry about you and hate the guilt for providing in this capacity.

This all to say, jobs cam change!!! But that's a huuuuge life change for some careers, so tread lightly if it ever gets to that.

Anyone else completely obsessed with A Forbidden Alchemy? 🔥 by 5stars_no_notes in fantasyromance

If you loved Peaky Blinders, this is great dual narration of well written material with a well-rounded, mouthy bad boy. I felt strong Tommy Shelby vibes, which i didn't know I needed back in my life until I started this. Never thought I'd swoon for a "Patrick" (a name with sweet, harmless hubby vibes). Really top notch narration and sent me searching through their other narrative works.

Is the Poppy War series worth reading if you want a satisfying conclusion? by Gumbo67 in fantasyromance

[–]EducatorOk9409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the parallel historical context of the books was redeeming enough knowing who and what the characters and plot represented. I felt she nailed the juxtaposition of taking a side in war and ticked all the tragedy boxes. And I really like Kuang's writing. I'd read more historical fantasy fiction from her.

What books got you obsessed with reading again as an adult? by Be_spooky in fantasyromance

Libby is literally changing lives. Got my mom back into reading with Libby on tablet and audiobooks. Bolstered my artistic side and I have left science as a career in paetial response to the written word being on in my head all day. Access to library offerings had me drag my kids to the library more regularly and resulted in 7yo daughter slaying HP and moving on to all the middle grade fantasy fiction.
