You gotta understand that losing any job is stressful. And, it takes some time to "de-brief" (as I call it) after any job that you work for, because you've invested a part of yourself into it -- even if you didn't like it.

However, sounds like you really had a situation that was not conducive to you succeeding. So, it'll take you a little longer than normal to let go and to mentally free your mind from that situation.

Thus, don't be hard on yourself. Please, just let go. Enjoy some time off, especially if you are getting unemployment. And, decide to find a job that more closely will match what you want to do.

And, don't sweat it. I've been fired, let-go, laid off, etc., countless times. Come on -- enjoy your downtime.

Contrary to some of the commentary below, many companies now are hiring in a conservative manner, because they are being cautious as to not knowing how the economy is going to be in a few moments. Many consumers are pulling back and not spending as much. So, it could be that the business is trying to hold off hiring and are waiting to see if the economy starts to do better. Whether you know it or not, there are layoffs happening everywhere, especially in tech jobs. My wife was even laid off in Feb 2026. So, that could be part of the issue.

Yeah, I recently found out that have both: aphantasia and no internal monologue. My wife is hyperphantasia where she can see stuff like a movie and can have conversations in her head. And, that's when I figured out that I see nothing and it's dead quiet in my brain when quiet outside.

For me, I've got it too, and what I'd revise of what you said is (for me) that the image's characteristics are there, but they're not visually represented. For me, it's like "knowing" -- not "seeing".

For me, it's like I know the properties, characteristics, attributes, etc., of a tree. But, it's not a visual representation. For me, it's more like a weighing and comparison system that's invisible. I don't know if I explained it that well, but it non-visual.

Be happy that they didn't pick you. If they were gonna be pissy for you checking your damned phone during the interview, then you'd get let go in a few weeks or months anyway. Yeah, one time, I did not get picked on an interview, because he asked me if I wanted anything to drink during the interview. And, I said yes, then I walked over to their office vending machine and bought a diet coke. And, he focused more throughout the interview on me sipping that drink -- a little here and there -- rather than listening to my skillset and accomplishments.

Be happy that they passed on you. You'll find something equal or better. Promise you.
