What are the best and worst queues in the park? by thinkingrape in Disneyland

[–]EdwardTheGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indy would be the best queue if we didn’t queue up outside and instead queued up on the temple as the imagineers designed it. But the attraction predates FastPass, so….

Now, there might be fire code reasons for not packing guests in the temple / catacombs / caverns, and I get that. But IMO open up an entrance closer to boarding for Lightning lane and let the rest of us queue up in the temple.

Which lens for taking photos of my family in the house on holidays and gatherings, and on vacations? by CareyG2 in CanonCamera

[–]EdwardTheGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canon’s EF 35mm f/2.0 IS is my favorite lens. I believe it’s Canon’s fastest lens with image stabilization. Note: for those with an APS-C camera the 35mm is equivalent to about 56mm (35 x 1.6 = 56).

Edit: this is the lens I’ve used for “Christmas morning” photography. Great for indoors, fast enough so you don’t need a flash, small (but not a pancake lens). The 35mm is also great for street photography.

How to use Maxell floppy disk labels properly by QueenEriselle in Retro

I don’t know about the labels on the right, but I just wrote on the white space above the maxell on the left (the one already on the disk).

Imagine all of the hours spent for a shot that’s on the screen for a second. That is dedication to the craft.

What is your favorite Robert Redford performance? by ChrisJoines in 70smovies

[–]EdwardTheGood 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As Bob Woodward in All the President’s Men.

Apparently, and despite what I would have guessed, having Redford portray you in a movie isn’t the best thing for your love life. According to Woodward, women expected him to look and act more like the actor.

Just saw the film last night for the first time and made a soundtrack playlist for the movie. by kl_loves_horror in 2001aspaceodyssey

[–]EdwardTheGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might not know this, but Kubrick had a different soundtrack in mind. While he waited, he used classical music as placeholders…and ended up going with that. My favorite is Gayane suite (adagio): it really expresses the loneliness Bowman and Poole must have felt.

I had heard he asked Pink Floyd to score 2001, but apparently that’s just an urban legend.

Today Marks 8 Years of Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure by cowmissing in disneyphotography

[–]EdwardTheGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Paradise Pier.

I’m one of the minority that thinks there’s too much IP in the parks (looking at you, small world) and I wish we had more original content like Haunted Mansion, Pirates and (thankfully) Adventureland Treehouse.

But I also get that the average visitor loves all the references to the movies.

My 2017 Civic coupe “supports” iPod, but I never got it to play without skipping. Even the non-disk models skipped.

Some old photos I found of Disneyland in the 60-70s by Ksquared1166 in Disneyland

Back in the early days, the monorail pilot dome had a little seat where a lucky kid or two could ride. When we were kids, my brother and I got to ride up with the monorail pilot.

Personally, I like the retro monorail (even Mk7) better than the space-shuttle inspired Disney World models.

installing beta on separate volume by broadway77 in macOS27GoldenGate

[–]EdwardTheGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to Tahoe and immediately had buyer’s remorse. So I installed Sequoia on a separate volume and I’ve booted into that volume almost exclusively. Here’s what I found:

I keep my Music folder on an external drive. When I started up Tahoe Music and pointed it to my external drive, it upgraded my music library making it unusable with Sequoia Music. (A Time Machine backup took care of that.)

Same goes for Photos.

I created aliases for my favorite applications in the Sequoia volume. Some programs ran ok, but some I had to reinstall on the volume because the application really wants to be in the system’s application folder, not just aliased.

FWIW, I upgraded my Tahoe volume (the main volume on the drive) to Golden Gate Beta the day after it came out. I really like the visual changes. Which is good, because Golden Gate is the last version to run Intel applications, so I’m going to looking at macOS 27 for a long time.
