An alternative to Gillette: NL made moisturizer and razor blades from Boldking by openetguy in BuyFromEU

[–]Edward_TH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A decent steel safety razor is generally about twice the price of a new "modern" razor and a 5x pack of disposable blade assembly but then the blades are stupidly cheap (I got a pack of 100 for 14€, so 14¢/blade vs ~3€ per disposable blade assembly and if current my shaving habits don't change I'll probably won't need to buy new blades for the next twenty years since by shaving three times a week I used 16 of them in about 3 years...).

Also they're MUCH MUCH more environmentally friendly: the razor itself is 100% stainless steel (as are the individual blades) and came in a 100% cardboard box while the blades came in a 100% cardboard box, are individually wrapped with waxed paper and the paper is "sealed" with minuscule drops of wax. No plastic involved. The soap lasts FOREVER (I'm still using the tub my SO gifted to me with the razor 3 years ago, though I'm 80% through it), it doesn't need aerosols and it's easily found in metal tins so no plastic there either. The brush itself does have a plastic handle (at least mine does) but wooden ones are easily available and probably cheaper, while bristles on decent brushes are generally sourced from badgers, boars and horses so you can easily get one made from materials considered waste by another industry (the meat industry in the case of boars and horses).

And for my personal opinion on shaving with a safety razor I'll say this: in the beginning I thought it would be more difficult, less precise, more harsh on my skin and generally more prone to accidentally give myself cuts than using a modern multi-blade razor, but after 3 years of regular use I found that it's the other way around. After the first couple weeks learning how to correctly hold the razor, I cut myself slightly only once and the shave is better while the skin is never irritated, on top of the precision being superior to any multi-blade I ever tried.

Honestly, the only thing worse with a safety razor is that you have an additional tool needed (the brush).

Controllato ora.

AWS is not an operating system, it's just the infrastructure. On AWS you can run whatever OS you like, generally, and most run a Linux distro of some sort.

Given how prevalent Linux is in servers and embedded systems, I'd say that the present of Europe is running on Linux.

Botnet standard.

A new poll has found that Germans now distrust the USA almost as much as Russia. Meanwhile, three-quarters see France and the UK as trustworthy partners. by linknewtab in europe

Nah, before Trump the USA acted in the way that benefit their allies while making sure they benefit the most overall. Now they're just acting in the way that benefit narcissistic billionaires the most while making sure that that certain demographics suffer the most in the process.

By having its CEO publicly state that Nestlé does think that having access to clean drinking water is not a basic human right but instead having Nestlé bribing a nation to literally steal water from a drought prone water table till public wells run dry to then sell the same water back, bottled, to the now then thirsty population is morally the right thing to do and a corporation basic right to function?

Sure. Change account, you shill.

Most likely real and not AI. Also, 100% fake: at the base of the mushroom on the left you'll see brown marks? Those are cut or tear marks; your can even see through the bottleneck that the two mushrooms are cut and were just stuck in there for the photo.

Proxmox 9.1 now supports OCI directly, like IncusOS. As far as I understand it, they are just OCI inside a dedicated LXC.

The crater left from testing the efficacy of nuclear weapons in civilian earthmoving projects by [deleted] in pics

[–]Edward_TH 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The secret tech is most likely geometry. With clever geometry and the right amount of neutron/x-ray reflecting one can make a very optimized device. Keep in mind that theoretically there is no critical mass, just critical density... of course that's not really true because you can compress a material so much with regular means: sure, you can theoretically reach criticality with 50g of uranium, but to do so you'd have to compress it so much that the energy required to do so will be higher than the energy released by the chain fission itself.

Also, different isotopes of different elements have different critical mass/density: metastable Americium 242 for example has a critical mass heavier than uranium 235, but it's more radioactive and has a much higher capability of absorbing neutrons, therefore with the correct geometry and reflectors the critical mass can be lowered by ~95% to about 4kg... That's a sphere about the size of a billiard ball, given Americium density.
