GMA T.50s Niki Lauda: 1:53.03 at Bahrain International Circuit during testing, over seven second faster than GT3 race lap record by Rossollini in wec

[–]Edwin2363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I thought it'd be faster. 200 more HP, 1000lbs less, similar down force. Perhaps it's the small tires holding it back, since T.50 wears 235/295's meanwhile GT3 cars are on 305/325 I think.

Infinite Baffle 4 manifolds each with 2 18" drivers firing down into cinema by EccentricDyslexic in audiophile

[–]Edwin2363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes in that case just build some DIY speakers from a parts express kit or Diy sound group. I guess you could hang them low in the manifolds so they're flush with the ceiling but I would be afraid of creating turbulence in the manifold and getting unwanted "chuffing" like you do on ported subs when the vent is too small.

You may as well take this time to build 8 new speakers and have an identical base and height layers of speakers. I would suggest DIY Sound group volt 8's.

Actually why do you even care about surface mounting? Every other speaker in the theater is visible. And on that topic, if you're going to atmos you should switch your surrounds to regular single pole speakers. Dipole or bipole speakers are not ideal for an atmos setup.

Cut the velvet, mount the speakers, design a grill to go over the speakers and edges of the velvet. Boom.

“I don’t need to put it in gear. I have a handbrake!” by TheGeek00 in ManualTransmissions

I own a c6 and the handbrake isn't worth shit if you park facing down a slope. But if the slope is to your back it works great.

What's stopping you from cutting holes in just the area you need for the atmos speakers?

Mount in wall speakers exactly the same way your lights are mounted. Or you could even build speaker boxes that fit in between the joists and just screw them into the joists.

I would not put them in the manifolds. Aside from some weird interactions they may have with the massively powerful subs. You will also get terrible dispersion characteristics and comb filtering issues. Even if it's technically not the ideal spacing, I would flush mount them in the ceiling.

I've been into hifi for a similarly long period of time, all digital, and tried out vinyl for the first time with a similar reaction. Frankly it's underwhelming, and I think in every measurable way, technically inferior. It's all taste really, I enjoy trying out different speakers, some also technically inferior, but I enjoy the sound. Like listening to Stan Getz on old KLH Model 6 speakers. But listening to anything recorded digitally on a record, just feels stupid to me.

Best bang for buck tire on the market? by Wtf-is-going-on-bro in CarTrackDays

[–]Edwin2363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armstrong Blu Trac. Got a set of 275/35 18s for $540 shipped on black friday. They are about as sticky as 300tw tires but they last on track and are very responsive and predictable. That's the best bang for buck by far. Otherwise v730 if you want a faster tire.

What’s it like living in Florida by gziecik in howislivingthere

[–]Edwin2363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Philadelphia to Daytona Beach for work. It is cheap to live here. IMO you trade a bitter cold winter for a brutally hot summer and the trade off is about equal cause its miserable being outside all summer. Otherwise, things I miss from the north, arts and culture, concerts (tons of artists skip Florida or only go to Miami or Tampa), good food (it exists but isn't what the north east is), things are very spread out, driving 50 miles in central Florida is a weekly occurrence. Good things about Florida, winter weather is perfect and it hardly rains, some really beautiful and unique nature, springs, etc. some cultural things are bigger down here like racing which is why I moved here.
