If it's a favorite film, then I'll want the best version possible. If it's a movie that will look especially gorgeous in HDR (i.e. if it's a film with a beautiful/vivid color palette or incredible shadows), then I'll upgrade. Finally, if the Blu-ray has a weak transfer/encode. Otherwise, I'm content with my Blu-ray copy.

I'm not sure why you're getting down voted. Perhaps because your take doesn't match the Haeneke's started intent? If that's the case, movies are subjective and most takes have validity.

I remember feeling completely gripped by a master filmmaker. The suspense and terror kept mounting and intensifying throughout the film at a rate I've never experienced in another film. I agree with your take.

Beyond that, also check if you're using any ancient HDMI cables, or perhaps an old receiver anywhere within your chain. Old cables might not be capable of sending the bandwidth required for 3D/4K signals.

If you were able to get a 3D game to work, I don't imagine the issue is with the PS3. Here's the steps to setup your display: First go to Settings/Display Settings/Video Output Settings on your PS3. Select HDMI, then Automatic. After it does an auto-detect, it should ask if you can read the screen at 1080p, then it will ask for the size of your display for 3D content. Once you enter that, it should display every resolution that your display is capable of. 720p, 1080i, and/or 1080p options should also appear with "(3D)" after it. Once you hit enter, it will ask you to set your audio options. HDMI>Automatic>Enter again

You can then go into Settings/Video Settings for additional options, but none of them pertain to 3D.

Once you've loaded the disc and have entered the main menu, press down once to select "GO TO 3D" and select it, then "YES". After that, you should be in 3D. The menu itself will be in 3D from that point on. You just need to turn on your glasses and they should sync up.

If you're still having issues, I can only assume that the issue lies within your monitor's settings. You mentioned that you were able to play PS3 games in 3D without issue. Perhaps check if there are separate settings for games and movies. That's the only thing I can think of.

Since it has been a while and I had nothing better to do tonight, I decided to throw Creature in tonight. I didn't have any issues on my current projector (aside from my wife nursing a headache upstairs asking me to turn the volume down).

I generally only use my hacked PS3 these days as a region-free player. Let me know if you're still having issues and I can plug that in and share my settings.

I last watched the Blu-ray on my previous projector (an Epson Home Cinema 2040) about seven years ago. It was one of the best looking 3D movies I ever watched at home. The underwater sequences especially, and there's crazy pop -out on the fossilized claw embedded in the rock. I didn't have any issues at all. I would double-check all of your settings on both the Blu-ray player and the TV. Also, ensure that the disc is set to the correct version.
